It is not a duplicate and definately good for readers. They read the description in the serp and than your content begins with the description they read so they are ensured they have arrived to the right place they can continue reading right from the point they have finished it. This method is also used with addwords adwertising.

RE: Lots of Domains Going Nowhere - Point to a Real Domain?
Just simply redirecting them to your site will not carry seo benefit. You should vrite great content for them, market themindividually: eran links, do social etc and place conversion points that point to your site. The point is exact match domains is that it is easier to rank them in google for the exact term, but that means writing content, doing marketing: just like with any other site.
If you can see from the attached article there are pros and contras. I would always think twice to create another domain. In first place I would always want to make new content for my primary site. I don't know your budget but I think dealing with microsites are for those with big budgets.

RE: Lots of Domains Going Nowhere - Point to a Real Domain?
Hello Justin,
Getting some (and definately not a significant amount) pagerank from parked domains and generating traffic on them are two different things.
If you build a html scheme let's say for the domains and try to write diferenet content for them, host them under different ip, you still have to make those pages visible to google so to add at least one-two links pointing to them. Having done all this stuff you have the chance that they may pass a little amount of link juice to your e-commerce stuff. These are still one page microsites with only few incoming links so they do not carry a significant value in google's eyes -> not able to pass significant value.
Consiering the time you spend writing those articles to publish on the domains I would rather turn that on blogging as blogs alrady have some traffic that can come through the links. Those links will carry more ranking value as well as google sees those as totally different authentic votes to your site.
i would only purchase additional domains if they are exatly matcing my search terms and those terms have a significant amount of traffic. That way maybe you can have youse of them. Otherwise I would publish every article under my main domain, so that users can find it easier and google sees that my site is regularly updated.
Here's a good article: http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/do-microsites-work-for-seo/

RE: Check large number of links
Maybe I get your question wrong but you can examine inbound links of a given url with OpenSiteExplorer for example. You can also chechk bulk data by giving not one specifical url but a whole domain. Was that what you wanted or did I totally misunderstand it?

RE: Show all VS show excerpt in a blog post
Just as First said.
One other reason to do this to have more page downloads if you are doing CPC adwertising, however it is definately not the case here.

RE: Primary link building for new clients, where do you go first?
I think these are two pretty good articles on link building you can get some ideas or use them for brainstorming:

RE: Hi Everybody fairy new here
Ehat Cms are you using? I had some hard time with joomla as engines somehow always found unpublished items and deleted urls. That can cause trouble. In wp if you have identical tags only relevant to one post that is again a great source of duplicates content. If your urls are available with and without www (that is not cms specific) again: duplicate content. If your urls are availabe with and without a slash in the end that is once again a duplicte. Look at the crawl diagnostic to see what are your duplicates and how could your CMS generate them?

RE: What directories are best for health or health related products?
I don't know the exact answer to your question but one way to get to know this is to hit in your most competitive KWs, take the first three domains for each word, examine them in OpenSiteExplorer and list the most autorative domains. MAybe you are looking for those.
-
RE: Competition leaving bad reviews on our places page, what to do?
Maybe you can try restricting those people from leaving review with a htaccess. If they are clever they can still get arounf the restriction but the have got a harder time to do so. I don' know how it can be done technically but maybe you can restrict someone with a given mac address, so that a given computer will never be able to access your page again. Ban profiles and forbid e-mail addresses in the cms. I haven't got any better advices, these are machine algorythms so they do not see the face of the commenter. They can ve identified due to their ip, computer or e-mail.

RE: How long for new pages to rank
Hello Conrad,
I think getting links from external sites to your new pages have never caused any trouble: both increases your overall domain authority, carries anchor text value to the specific pages so speeds up ranking process for specific terms and maybe gets in some extra visitors. I would definately look after some links to get from external sources to my important content.
Ranking process is hard to tell. I often see my rankings improving couple of months after a new page is added to my site. However one thing is sure: if you have not gained meaningful rankings so far than adding those links is a great idea.

RE: What are your thoughts on security of placing CMS-related folders in a robots.txt file?
I found three options for you: http://www.techiecorner.com/106/how-to-disable-directory-browsing-using-htaccess-apache-web-server/
I think if you do it with.htacces that is a folder specific file than nobody will be able to detect where admin contet is located.

RE: Htaccess issue
Can I ask you two more things?
First, could you please explain the regex to me as I don't understand a few parts, so:
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^score=[0-9]&rew=[0-9]$
RewriteCond this is the condition hen rewrite should take place
% I don't know why it is necessarry just see it everywhere
{QUERY_STRING} gets the query string
^ matches from beginning
score=[0-9]* score=takes a number from 0-9 zero to more times
&rew=[0-9]*$ again with rew=RewriteRule rule fot the rewrite
^(.*)$ I totally don't get this one
http://domain.com? I don't know why ? is needed
[R=301,L] 301 redirectSecondly I would like to ask you for a code to remove .html endings from any urls.I think it should begin like
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (.*).html
But I am totally not enough for the second part. Could you please help me with this one as well?

RE: Dynamic Links vs Static Links
Agreeing with the previous post adn in addition:
If you have dynamic links yor targeted pages get a different PR and anchor text value that can cause a fluctuation in your rankings that can be quite emberrasing i think. If you choose static links you can justify the targetted pages, forward value to those pages that really need them, and you can place your links in the beginning of the text fields so that they forward more pagerank than links in the bottom. I would choose static as I would like to alays kno hich page I am proposing, how and where I am proposing it. In addition to these technical Factors you have a better chance of guiding visitors through related material on your site.
Cheers

Htaccess issue
I have some urls in my site due to a rating counter. These are like:
domain.com/?score=4&rew=25
domain.com/?score=1&rew=28
domain.com/?score=5&rew=95These are all duplicate content to my homepage and I want to 301 redirect them there. I tried so far:
RedirectMatch 301 /[a-z]score[a-z] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /.score. http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /^score$.* http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /.^score$.* http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /[a-z]score[a-z] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 score http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /[.]score[.] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /[.]score[.] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /[a-z,0-9]score[a-z,0-9] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /[a-z,0-9,=,&]score[a-z,0-9,=,&] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /[a-z,0-9,=&?/.]score[a-z,0-9,=&] http://domain.comNone of them works. Anybody? Solution? Would be very much appriciated

RE: Back-link Quantity
I had a little experimentaiton with this one and according to my results there is difference, but you can try it yourself if you can post an article somewhere where you are able to put in extra links later
-
RE: 301 redirect
Still not working for me. I tried further with:
RedirectMatch 301 [.]score[.] http://domain.com (I thought a-z stands just for letter and urls contain number and marks)
RedirectMatch 301 [.]score[.] http://domain.comneither works

RE: Pass Page LinkJuice? Or Pass Keyword LinkJuice?
You should place canonical link when two pages contents are identical or have a very little difference. If this is the case, so your popular page's text taht you not prefer is very close to the text you prefer you can place the canonical link. If You have a totally different content I think you should just place some links pointingg to your preferred page.
-
RE: Does having multiple links to the same page influence the Link juice this page is able to pass
I think the pagerank it forwards can be the same, but if you link to your own pages that does not affect your rankings as much as if you do it from some other domain.
-
RE: 301 redirect
still not working for me.
The exact url is domain.com/?score=4&rew=25 (there are some more versions of course with different counters)
I want to redirect all urls like this to domain.com
tried:
RedirectMatch 301 /[a-z]score[a-z] http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /.score. http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /^score$.* http://domain.com
RedirectMatch 301 /.^score$.* http://domain.comnone of them woks

RE: Back-link Quantity
Another thing to take into consideration that always a given amount of a pages own page rank is forwarded to the page you link to. So if you have a page with a PR of 2 and have 20 outbound links, the pagerank the actual page forwards will be divided equally between the 20 links, provided you place one link. If you place more links than the second one pointing to your site will carry slightly less value than the first one did (but will carry some), although it will carry anchor value. So, agreeing with Robert: don't look spammy, but you can take placing more links into consideration.

RE: Any way around buying hosting for an old domain to 301 redirect to a new domain?
I had just the same experience. It was only one occasion but I did nothing more to the site then putting it under a new account on my shared hosting, so only the last digit of the ip has changed. I saw a drop in rankings however the original I gained back the original rankings a few weeks later.

RE: 301 redirect
Thanks, Alan. Not really like that, as my url contains additional characters both in the front and at the end of the word. By the way the links you sent me on the topic were great I am just having some hard time to understand them, they are a bit chinese to me, as I have no basics at all writing htaccess.

RE: 301 redirect
I think it should be something like
Redirectmatch 301 /.
*thisword.``* http://domain.com
Maybe but I am not sure, would be grateful for feedback

RE: 301 redirect
I'm looking for a method to redirect any urls containing a certain variable. I have a scorable element on my site and each time a new score is added a new url is generated like domain.com/xyz?score=5 or domain.com/score=4&rew=22. These are all alternates of my main page abd I would like to redirect them there. In the end found something when clicking through from Jennifer's post but I'm still not quite sure.

RE: How to focus SEO efforts on a single country?
If you are focusing just for the UK you nedd a co.uk tld as you mentioned. You need to submit to UK directories and to get links from UK sites. If you can host your page in the UK that is even better, that does not mean to buy hosting from a UK firm but to have server phisically based in the UK. You can alsotry adding a lang=en parameter to the html. As Cisaz said you can try adding targeted cities like seo in London or Birmingham. That is all you can do besides general SEO issues.

RE: Any way around buying hosting for an old domain to 301 redirect to a new domain?
Egol has usually got great answers that woths linstening to, this time however I think I disagree as moving site A's hosting to a new ip causes a drop in rankings. Put the redirection on top of that and you get some more fallback. I think in the above case I would not change the hosting but do the redirect and wait for google to notice the change. Maybe a few months later I would give up site A's original hosting and migrate it to site B's hosting to be able to keep the original urls live for some more time.

RE: Does CSS position effect the value of a link?
Here's a piece of authentic information if you like videos and Matt Cutts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0fgh5RIHdE. Just as miss M. -J said, links in footer do carry less value.

RE: Organic Search Problems?
Hello Colt,
First and most important thing is that organic SEO differs from paid search. One thing is that you have multiple instances of h1 tag and that is spamming. Just leave the most important as h1 modify all other to h2.
I think you have quite a long code for this short page. I would try to shrinken the code somehow. One other problem with the code is that your page is built using tables: that is not up to date anymore. You should use divisions and format them via css.
The hugest matter of all is that you have only got 2 inbound links: all two from the same site. If you want to rank in organic search with compatitive terms like loan and credit you should have tonns of inbound links. Read more somewhere on linkbuilding what is possible and what is forbidden. Do not purchase links.
Do some keyword research or get some from your paid campaigns: optimize for long tail words, loan and credit are so compatitive words, that with really hard work you need at least a whole year to get to first page, and i am not sure that is even enough.
Why you are not ranking for federal auto loan is that it contains loan as a compatitive words, federal that is another nice word used mostly on governmenr sites, and auto that can be a lot of things. So your brand name is composed of three really compatitive and hard words, you need patience and lot of hard work to rank for that.

RE: How do websites display product attributes listed with their meta descriptions in Google SEPRs?
I don't know what exactly this is, but you can implement useful snippets of information, like price, rating, reviwe counter with schema.org. I personally haven't got any long time experience with it but it is said to lift CT. This should be true as users searching for items with reviews for example can find clues that here they will find some.

RE: Developing my footer area
It is not a simple text I suggested, but a hcard, and i did not suggest it for users, but for SEO and local search. It carries local value: http://smallbusinessshift.com/articles/microformats-for-local-seo/ I suggested links as well. A footer area in my opinion should hold definately more than two links. These links do carry useful value, as after finishing reading all the content on a page you get to the footer and you can scroll up till the main menu or you can find something useful you can clcik in the bottom. I think it is a great way to lead visitors through your site. I think a carefully designed sites should give some attention to this factor. If you do doubt that users click footer links just look at your analytics and draw the conclusions yourself.
