It's not a problem, it's just a little bit of a wasted effort. First, EMD's have less of an impact as they once had - so rather than trying to game the SERP's with the micro-sites - you can just kill it with local content on things to do once you rent the car. Think of these other sites as opportunities to create an umbrella of related terms to your main keywords - with links back to your money site.

Also would 100% differentiate the layouts for each site - the more unique each site - the more value your links will have within your network of websites.

Use each as an opportunity to deeply target the context of the page. Where title's have to be >60 Characters - we're allowed more wiggle room with H1.

I target specifically what I'm targeting in my title - and I use  contextually similar  text in H1.

Duplicating isn't going to hurt, but its a missed opportunity to draw deeper relevance and co-occurrence of other related terms.

Create a fantastic piece of evergreen content for the major areas surrounding cities you target. The content for each smaller city will be used to build out large context for the major pieces of evergreen content.

so you end up with:

MAJOR ARTICLE ABOUT EVERYTHING IN NEW ENGLAND

^best parks in [enter city]

^top 10 restaurants in [enter city]

Over time you end up with rich major pages that target large areas - with smaller niche content that is linking to and drawing deeper context to ALL things about an area. With smart URL's and initiatives such as targeted local facebook ads propagating content - and getting local bloggers involved - it'll all be downhill from there.

I would use each page created as an opportunity to target specific keywords. For each ticket page you can target the following areas: Month, Date, Venue, Type of Show, Play Name.

So for example:

http://www.charged.fm/event/tickets/2511448/kinky-boots

vs.

http://www.charged.fm/tickets/broadway-play/kinky-boots/Month-Date/

So if someone was to search:

broadway tickets for September...boom targeted

kinky boots september....boom targeted

kinky boots broadway tickets...boom targeted

broadway play tickets....boom targeted

Nope - minimal to no traffic

That's what I was leaning towards. A lot of this content links out to support pages on other sites - so I was a bit weary about losing link juice to other pages. However, I think the content and pages aren't authoritative enough to really show any loss from the dropped links.

So there's a blog I recently took over - that over the past 2 years has great content. However, with their 800+ published posts.

I'd say that 250-300 posts are light in content, that's nothing more than a small paragraph with no real specificity on what its about - more like general updates.

Now what would best practice be; optimizing all of the posts or deleting the posts and 301'ing the URL to another post/the root?

okay cool - appreciate the input man. i think im just going to no-follow/no-index all the pages. and the big plan strategy is to slowly optimize each individual page as time goes on

problem is so many pages with light content - i feel like this is creating a situation where i have a small leak in a big boat - and fixing this page will plug that hole

Maybe a 301 from /clients**/index.cfm** to /clients - is a better option than the canonical to maintain all link equity.

So you think adding a no-index to the links is best option - over a no-follow or even a no-index/no-follow?
