There is no 404 though, the page is there just not in the results
Many thanks for the reply. Here's some answers No one has touched the code or made any recent changes to the site, there's no Robots txt , no follow and the canonical links are working ok Back links are fine, nothing untoward at all, and there is nothing tht breaks any guidelines Both sites are 100% different not even in the same areas, we only work on one site but the client has 2 sites on a shared server an they both have the missing home page (doesn't even rank for brand terms) I've just checked in webmaster tools and although there are no messages or errors I've just spotted that the http://www home page is showing as a 404, which is incorrect as you can type it in and view it with no errors. The site is set to resolve at the non www. This is set in the CMS (wordpress) with the canonical link and within webmaster tools
If the old products are indexed then you will get some long tail traffic to the no doubt, so deleting the page is a no no, i would either keep the page and display the new products underneath or 301 to the new product page.

What more info do you require, I cant post the URL
Ok odd one. 2 sites hosted on go daddy, neither sites has any cause for concern. But both sites have had there home pages deindexed or - 10000 penalty for no reason. We do the SEO for 1 site and not for the other. The server is shared with go daddy no idea on how many other 3rd party sites are on it. I've filed a reinclusion request for both sites. Any help is more than welcome.
Oh sweet! Thanks, this just saved me a headache. Yes I was going to host the 2nd site locally and make any local content changes.
Any Oz based hosting companies you recommend?
We have the co.uk and com.au ccTLDS and currently operate out of the UK only but plans are in place for Australia. We can't get hold of the .org or .com so it has to be the ccTLD.
I want to use the same site for both countries and either host 2 identical sites (same content) or 1 site with different domain names + meta tags for the 2 countries.
Whats the best way to make this happen without screwing things up?
Do you rank number one for your domain with the hyphen in it? Do you want to prevent someone else coming into your market?
I try and keep it to 1 link every 300 words (or page) and I mix up the anchor text so its not always the same to prevent it from looking spammy.
Rememeber you need to link across all your pages, not just have a load of anchor text links heading to the home page

But what if my business plan was to build sites gain PR then sell links?

The site resolves on the non www now?
Which is best www or not?
I'm interested to hear more about
Also, I would really question the merits of your fire and forget link building. Link velocity is an important metric (also shows you're not "gaming" the system).
1 pages sites won't work. Add in some more pages perhaps go for some long tail traffic. I've tried lots of one page sites and a few years ago they would rank, now however you need to do more as google doesn't like these one page sites used to push people away to other sites.
