Hi Yusuf,
Thanks for your reply.
We do not use the UTM tags for internal linking. However we do have external websites linking to us with UTM tagged links. These links are either paid, ppc or affiliate (=not natural). Some are dofollow and some are nofollow. I was wondering if the dofollow links with UTM tags pass linkvalue to our company website (yes we use canonical tags).
No webmaster will naturally link to another website and tag the link with a UTM tag unless the link is paid..right? That said...this is also something Google knows and I would be surprised if Google passes linkjuice through these (commercial) links.
What do you think?
Will Google value a link with a UTM tag the same as a clean link without a UTM tag?
I should say that a UTM tag link is not a natural link so the linkvalue is zero.
Anyone any idea how to look at this?
Hi Carl,
Don't put a nofollow tag on the pages since this will cause a loss of pagerank. The pagerank will flow into the pages and won't flow out to your "doindex" pages when a nofollow tag is used.
I do recommend to use a noindex to avoid duplicate content. However you won't get a penalty when you index the pages (if not to spammy). Google might ignore your "duplicate content" pages but you also could gain some traffic.
Thanks for answering this question as well. We are interlinking between the 3 EMDs but not in a spammy way imo,
Thanks Takeshi,
We will indeed test some different Meta Titles. We were only doubting if we should include our website name(url) in the Meta Title.
Gianluca Fiorelli, confirms that it is wise to do so here: http://moz.com/community/q/what-emd-meta-title-should-we-use-and-what-about-getting-links-to-the-same-c-block-ip
We will test some plural/singular terms in the Meta Title to see if this makes the different.
Thanks Gianluca Fiorelli, for your thorough answer,
We will consider ending each Meta Title with "- Vakantiehuizen-Italie.nl". We will probably first test some individual pages.
I asked the question concerning the C Block links because we are interlinking between our different EMD's. Which could look suspicious.. Moreover, sometimes I encounter websites where I can submit all three EMD's in once. Which results in a (many) links to the three EMD's from the same C-Block. I am still not sure if I should worry though...
Ok. Many thanks! I made two questions:
http://moz.com/community/q/what-emd-meta-title-should-we-use http://moz.com/community/q/is-linking-out-to-different-websites-with-the-same-c-block-ip-bad-for-seo
Many SEOs state that getting (too many) links from the same C-Block IP is bad practice and should be avoided. Is this also applicable if one website links out to different websites with the same C-Block IP?
Thus, website A, B and C (on the same server) link to website D (different server) could be seen as spam but is this the same when website D links to website A, B and C?
Situation: Recently I encountered a Meta Title issue for my company websites.
This Dutch company has four websites on one server. Three closely related EMD(Exact Match Domain) websites and one overarching website. (Holiday homes rental websites)
Vakantiehuizen-Verhuur.nl (overarching)
Vakantiehuizen-Frankrijk.nl (EMD in EN: holidayrentals-France.nl)
Vakantiehuizen-Italie.nl (EMD in EN: Holidayrentals-Italy.nl)
Vakantiehuizen-Spanje.nl (EMD in EN: Holidayrentals-Spain.nl)
Question:
What would be a preferable Meta Title for the EMD websites (homepage/subpages)? Keep in mind that the domains are EMD. The homepage will target the most important keywords and should not compete with subpages.
Options for the homepage (translated from Dutch to English):
1. Holiday Rentals France | All holiday home rentals in France in a row!
2. Holiday Rentals France | Holidayrentals-France.nl powered by Holiday-Rentals.nl
3. Suggestions?
Options for the subpages:
1. Holiday Rentals Normandy | Holidayrentals France
2. Holiday Rentals Normandy | Holidayrentals-France.nl
3. Suggestions?
And concerning the keywords in the beginning; is it wise to use both plural and singular terms in the meta title? For Example:
Hotel New York. Best hotels in New York | Company Name
