I have a site that provides online education and as such, most of the user activity happens behind a login. This has me thinking about potential SEO impacts with a few questions that maybe someone could lend some light on:

1. How important is activity (above just search activity) to the search engines

2. Would it help to enter these pages, even though they're behind a login, into GA as we have with the front-end of the site

3. Does a subdomain make a difference (right now we implement the course as a subdomain of the main site

4. Lastly, as I was looking at compete.com, I am wondering how they get these use statistics?

The site runs on Drupal 7 and the specific modules are:

1. Page Title 7.x-2.5

2. Meta Tags, 7.x-1.0-alpha4

3. Global Redirect, 7.x-1.4

The dup pages (with & without parameters) seem to have correct canonical tags pointing to the basic page without parameters.

I have a site where there are several duplicate titles, looks like mainly based on a parameterized vs. non-parameterized version of the page. I have what appears to be a proper canonical tag, but webmaster still complains of both duplicate titles & meta descriptions. A good example (taken out of webmaster report for http://igottadrive.com) is:

If I look at the page (in either case) there appears to be a correct canonical tag pointing to the base case. However, for some reason google is either ignoring the canonical or its not properly done.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What I meant by "getting credit" is that we are producing these videos and I would like them to be seen as part of the content of my site. On the site, these videos would typically be on a "tips" page with some surrounding text, etc. On youtube, they obviously are a video placed on my youtube channel. The goal on the web site is to build a rich collection of tips and information that would be of value to our customers. On youtube, the videos alone would be of value and could be socialized, etc, with a site overlay.

For our business we are building a collection of videos ranging including product info, how-to's, and some funny content. My understanding is that if you embed these onto my site from youtube you don't get any credit for these videos on the web site even if submitting a video sitemap.

My thinking is to post these videos to youtube and to host them on our own site and submit a video sitemap including the videos on our site. We would change the name, description, etc. on youtube vs. what's o our web site.

Question is - is this the best strategy? Do I get penalized for duplicate content? They are important for both the social aspects of youtube and the content vaue of our web site.

I have an old site which is being moved to a new tld due to re-branding. I understand I would do a series of 301 redirects from the pages of the old site to capture the authority and move to the new site. However, at some point in the future (probably 1-2 years) we may want to re-use the old site again for a different brand (it has a good brand, just not for what we're going after).

Question is - can a redirected site be re-used at some point in the future? And if so, which site would new authority (links, etc.) go to?

I certainly agree with your comments on video and youtube in general. My understand, which apparently was incorrect, was that the url in the profile was a dofollow link. Has it always been a nofollow link? Lots of misinformation about this...

Is there still a dofollow link back from a youtube channel to your web site? I filled in the site url in the profile, which in my understanding used to be the single dofollow link back to your web site. However, when I view the page source for the youtube channel it shows up as a nofollow link. Also, in OSE the link does not appear.

Has this changed or am I just not doing this correctly?

I am building a site which sells a product in 50 states and in each state we will have independt partners. From an SEO perspective, what are the tradeoffs in using a single domain vs. having each state a subdomain? Each state also has varying regulatory issues that are specific to that state.
