RE: OK to have a modal pop-up on an AdWords landing page?
Thank you, Kristina. Wise advice.
For what it's worth, the complicating factor about why we don't necessarily just put the message about "handcrafted" prominently on the inventory page is that we have multiple possible messages to emphasize. I many cases the message that the store is at a convenient, nearby location is most important, the fact that the furniture is customizable is second, and then the handcrafted aspect is maybe third or fourth. With this specific segment of AdWords traffic, by contrast, we want to clearly emphasize the "handcrafted" message most prominently.

OK to have a modal pop-up on an AdWords landing page?
We're about to launch an AdWords campaign targeting users who are searching for hand-crafted furniture. The website we're sending users to has a large inventory of furniture, and all if it is hand-crafted. But there currently is no page on the site specifically communicating that all the furniture on the site is hand-crafted.
So, rather than dump the user right into browsing the inventory, we want to put an intermediate step in place to say, in essence, "Hey, welcome, yes, we have lots of handcrafted furniture. In fact, all of it is hand-crafted. Here, have a look around."
The art director on the project is suggesting that a modal pop-up would be perfect for this scenario. It would greet the user, who could then dismiss the pop-up and move into the site.
I have two concerns about using a modal, though:
- Does a modal violate Google's policy against pop-ups that open new windows?
- Assuming we trigger the modal using Javascript, will AdsBot have any trouble crawling the content of the modal, such that it could hurt the landing page component of our quality score?

RE: Linking from and to pages
I agree with Alan. To Google at worst your site might look like a directory to Google with reciprocal links. And even the reciprocal links can be condemned by Google its usually only in the case of misleading reciprocal links. I would just make sure you do not trade links with malicious sites as Google will target your links then

RE: Plural vs non-plural domain name
Thanks. This has been my side on the internal discussions I've been having with co-workers and I haven't used the defense of the long-tail keywords.

RE: Plural vs non-plural domain name
Thanks. In my case it would be more like car or cars with both being retail items but when you look to purchase a vehicle you like for a car but for instance cars.com is much better suited for the long term since it has been optimized.

Plural vs non-plural domain name
I'm sure this question has been answered and asked a 1,000 different ways but what would be the best domain name to use in the long term (2 years +)? The plural versions (examples.com) which has a decent domain authority and is ranking 1st in Google search results yet has less search volume or the singular version (example.com) that has no current SEO value for the search term that we'd like to target however the singular version of the keyword has a much higher search volume? so basically will it be better to have the exact match that has more volume or the plural form that has better rankings after 2 years of doing SEO for each domain?
My guess is that using (examples.com) with the better domain authority and tightening the grip on its dominance in Google will still be more effective than having the exact match domain with more search volume for that keyword while performing the same amount of SEO even after two years.
Any suggestions?

Purchased a high ranking domain and want to transfer my site to the new domain
I recently purchased a highly ranked domain. The link profile is very good and I don't want to lose to many links however I want to transfer my site to that domain. What is the best way of doing this without losing the current rank on search engines? Also how much does the transfer of registrar information impact my SEO?

RE: Is there a tool that measures what keyword searches actually bring in clients?
Thank you. Marc is correct in his assessment of my question. I have a client that I am optimizing for and I want to include the correct Kws in the title tags. I just think the most obvious Kws are not want their ultimate paying customers will be using to search for the company. The campaign is a good idea.

Is there a tool that measures what keyword searches actually bring in clients?
Is there a tool to measure what keywords are bringing in clients? For instance, there is a keyword phrase with a high volume of searches so naturally I am inclined to include this phrase in my title tag. However, it does not seem like a search phrase that a potential client would use. Is there a tool to see what phrases actual clients are using?

How often is Linkscape and Open Site Explorer updated?
I ran a report on a URL that needed external links updated several weeks ago. I contacted the webmasters at each site with the outdated external link notifying them of the updated URL. I want to check how many have been updated, so I reran the report. Unfortunately, there are some that I know were updated still showing up on the report with the outdated URL. Any suggestions to get a gauge on how many have been updated?
