RE: Accuracy of search volume for keyword planner v old keyword tool?
Right? And when googling this it feels like I'm the only one...
In my experience contacting google has usually been a waste of time.. Is there any place you would recommend submitting this?

RE: Accuracy of search volume for keyword planner v old keyword tool?
In my case, the new kw-tool always shows the same numbers for broad, phrase and exact match, no matter what option I chose. Also, these numbers are completely different from what the old kw-tools displays. look here: http://imgur.com/tpAXwVN
For languages that are less used than english, the new kw-tool often displays no traffic at all and becomes virtually useless.

RE: Accuracy of search volume for keyword planner v old keyword tool?
Hi Sarah
I'm stumbling into the same problems as you - search volumes of the old Keyword Tool and the Keyword Planner vary massively. And for terms that shouldn't have much fluctuation in search volume. Stuff that shows volume in the thousands in the old tool, just indicates search volumes around 50 in the new one.
This looks pretty crappy to me considering that soon this will be my only kw-tool available...

RE: Block Domain in robots.txt
Hi Don
Thanks for your hint. It doesn't look like there are any links to the www1 subdomain. Also, since we've let the www1-Subdomain return 404's and blocked it with robots, the indexed pages increased from 39'300 to 45'100 so this is more than anybody would link to... Really strange why Google just ignores robots and keeps indexing...

RE: Block Domain in robots.txt
Thanks for the resource Chris! The strange thing is that Google keeps indexing new URLs even though it is clearly blocked via robots.txt...
But I guess I'll just wait for these 90 days to pass then...

Block Domain in robots.txt
Hi.
We had some URLs that were indexed in Google from a www1-subdomain. We have now disabled the URLs (returning a 404 - for other reasons we cannot do a redirect from www1 to www) and blocked via robots.txt. But the amount of indexed pages keeps increasing (for 2 weeks now). Unfortunately, I cannot install Webmaster Tools for this subdomain to tell Google to back off...
Any ideas why this could be and whether it's normal?
I can send you more domain infos by personal message if you want to have a look at it.

RE: Language Detection redirect: 301 or 302?
Hi Marcus
Thanks for your great answer! This makes a lot of sense and I agree that 303 seems to be the suitable response if they were used "semantically"...
I do not agree with the general setup they made with this user detection (particularly since the root URL is not accessible but gets redirected). So I'm just out for a quick fix here for something that is not set up optimally in general.
I think I will stick with the 302 - it's not so easy to decide, but in such cases I think what Google itself does is a good reference. So thanks for pointing that out!
We won't get link juice from the domain's root using 302s (or less), but I will try to solve this otherwise by actually making that URL accessible.
Thanks a lot!

Language Detection redirect: 301 or 302?
We have a site offering a voip app in 4 languages. Users are currently 302 redirected from the root page to /language subpages, depending on their browser language.
Discussions about the sense of this aside: Is it correct to use a 302 redirect here or should users be 301 redirected to their respective languages? I don't find any guideline on this whatsoever...

RE: Is there any value in having a blank robots.txt file?
No use in having a blank robots.txt. Minimum requirement if you want to have your site crawled is this:
User-agent: * Allow: /
Note that Gagans example above will block the entire site.

RE: Keyword Moderator List
Not easy to do such a list in general. I've made many attempts at this and didn't really get to a list thats more comprehensive than yours... IMO this has to be done specifically for each business segment.
