Rank list of keywords by searches per month
-
Hi I would like to rank a list of keywords by searches per month in google.com.au,
How could I do this?
-
Hi Adam,
If you are just wanting to rank your keyword terms according to the number of searches per month, you can use any of a wide selection of free or paid keyword research tools.
Probably the most well known and commonly used is the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. In order to get the estimated number of searches per month for the exact keyword terms you are seeking, type the list into the Word or phrase input field at the top (one term per line). Check the box underneath the input field that says O****nly show ideas closely related to my search terms. When you click "Search" you will see two separate lists. The first one will show you the exact terms you entered. You will now also see an option on the left of the screen to change from the default broad match to exact match or phrase match (I would normally be looking for exact match and local searches - USA by default). You can sort the list numerically by clicking on the column heading.
To download just your list of terms, check the box to select them, then click "download" and choose "selected" from the menu that opens. This will allow you to save the list in a number of formats, including csv for Excel.
The second list you see is a selection of "keyword ideas" which Google thinks may be closely related to the terms you entered. If you want to add some of these to the list you are downloading, just check the boxes before downloading "selected".
If you want to change location (you are not in the USA), or just look at search numbers for mobile traffic etc, click the Advanced Options and Filters link underneath the word and phase input field.
You should always keep in mind with any tool of this nature, that search numbers can never be exact, but it will certainly give you an indicative feel for the popularity of your terms. There will always be variations in search traffic from month to month, there are seasonal influences etc etc.
As Ryan indicated, there are a number of other factors to take into account when assessing the keywords you are going to target and the Whiteboard Friday video he suggested is a great place to start.
I would normally suggest that you also use the SEOmoz Keyword Difficulty Tool to help refine your list according to how competitive your terms are, but I believe there is an issue with that tool at the moment. The SEOmoz team are working on that, and you could make use of it once the issue is resolved.
Hope that helps,
Sha

You may wish to consider results by other factors such as difficulty, conversions, page views, etc. as well.
I would recommend the following WBF video: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/keyword-metrics-for-seo-and-driving-actions-from-data-whiteboard-friday

Is it a bad idea to hyphenate keywords?
Hello, my understanding was that Google reads hyphens in keywords as spaces, but if that's accurate how come keywords with hyphens that I research with Keyword Explorer — for instance, hospital-acquired infections — rank lower when I include the hyphen? If the hyphen hurts SEO, do I have to remove them all from the blog or page in question? Removing hyphens means a blog or page will have punctuation errors, which is irritating to an editor, but I don't want to sacrifice the effectiveness of keywords, either. Thanks, in advance, for your response!

Keywords with and without diacritics
Hi, I am trying to make my site to appear in the search results even the searched term have or have not been wrote with diacritics for example: "șarpe" or "sarpe". The language is Romanian. If I seach for "Românul cu maşină, marea victimă" or "Romanul cu masina, marea victima" the first result for both searches is the same. I don't see anything special on their html code and I am wondering how do they did it. Regards, Bogdan

Number of keywords to optimise per web page?
Hi Guys, I am new to SEOmoz and just finding my way around the site. I currently have two websites up both in wordpress and both using SEO Yoast for keyword / page analysis. SEO Yoast software basically only allows you to have 1 page / blog post optimised for 1 keyphrase. If you try to put the same keyphrase in 2 + times for different pages or posts then Yoast flags it up as not good for SEO purposes. Is this correct? Also how do massive websites go on when previously they would have optimised many web pages / blogs for the same keywords?

Analysing more than 5 keywords?
I have the habit of analysing 80 to 100 keywords per topic and I really do not see myself exporting 20 5-lines Excel sheets and then merging them before getting to analysis itself. Is there a way around this (very strict) limitation?

How are similar keyword phrases related?
I'm new to SEO and have been reading a lot to try to get up to speed. There is one concept that I'm not clear about and am not sure what to search on to find an answer. Let's say I'm trying to target 2 keyword phrases "Wordpress SEO" and "Wordpress SEO plugin". In the content of my web page should I always write "Wordpress SEO plugin" because it'll count towards both phrases I'm trying to target? Or would Google be smart enough to only give me credit for "Wordpress SEO plugin" in that case and I should also put just "Wordpress SEO" in other places in my content? Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks in advance!

Reasonable price for Keyword Research
If I knew what to look for I would do it myself. But I want it done now. The words would relate to one broad category with possible gold that can be mined from 12 sub-categories categories. In my preliminary seat of the pants research I didn't find much in the sub-categories but there were around 10 key words in the broad categories. I am getting a lot of long tail words ranked but I don't believe there is hardly any traffic. Does anyone know what a reasonable estimate is for this degree of keyword research? Also if anyone would like to submit a bid for this work please personal email me. Utah Tiger.
