.co.uk to .com - Transfer of domain

After having our site up for over a year and gaining PR 3 and more than a dozen page 1 rankings on Google for most of our competitive terms, we have realised we have to transfer to .com from our current .co.uk URL for legal reasons.
What would the best way be to carry out such a move in an SEO perspective?

Mmm... it is not the webmaster that does the 301... it is your server that does it.
I mean:
- the inbound link send to your old url page
- search engines bot (and users) follow that link and arrive to your site
- your server sees that a visit is directed to the old url
- the server then apply the rule you gave him via .htaccess (for instance) and redirect the visit to the new url of the page
In this "transfer" a little bit of pagerank seems getting lost, that is why is alway better to ask to the owner of the site where the backlink is to update the link itself, if possible.

How can we 301 the inbound links to our site, if the links are from other sites ? Supposing, the webmaster has placed our link oh his site. Should we ask the webmaster of the site to do this as he has the ftp details only.

That page explains very easily what to do, but you can sum it with
- 301 old urls to new site urls;
- control the inbound links and eventually ask to change the URL in the link to the new page. If not possible, the 301 will redirect the visits from that link to the new page, but will loose a little bit of PR;
- use the Webmaster Tools > Change of address function to alert Google of the change of address;
- Add the new site in Google Webmaster Tool
- Notify Google with a sitemap of the new site
There will be a period where Google will crawl both the old and the new site... but I believe that you will have to block Google from indexing the old one due to the legal issue you told. That can be done via robots.txt and noindex, nofollow in the meta robots

How do I list the subdomains of a domain?
Hi Mozers, I am trying to find what subdomains are currently active on a particular domain. Is there a way to get a list of this information? The only way I could think of doing it is to run a google search on; site:example.com -site:www.example.com The only issues with this approach is that a majority of the indexed pages exist on the non-www domain and I still have thousands of pages in the results (mainly from the non-www). Is there another way to do it in Google? OR is there a server admin online tool that will tell me this information? Cheers, Dan

Consolidate 150 domains to 1
Hi! Just as the questions tell we are looking at a project where we might have to consolidate 150 different domains into 1 (of course with a corresponding page on the new domain). We aim at preserving as much of the linkjuice as possible from each domain. Any advice on doing this propely? I, of course, see a risk of opening the new domain and just redirecting (301) the old domains to the specific page on the new domain but is there any right or wrong way of doing this? I might add that each domain has a more or less unique linkprofiles in terms om linking domains, number of linking domains and such. Our dear friend Cutts has some information on this topic, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7M22teF3Ho but he only talks about 4 domains - which of course seem like a bit more natural occurring phenomenon. But what about 150 of them? Anyone got any advice? Is this as much of a no-go that I feel it is? Thanks! Edit: There domains are all owned by the same entitiy, share the same GWT and such.

Link to domain
Let's say i want to rank for rental car service and purchases a domain rental-car-service and creates a site http://www.rental-car-service.com There will be few persons who won't use anchor text to link to the site, but will simply link using URL ( in this case http://www.rental-car-service.com ) So, will a link to http://www.rental-car-service.com from another site using http://www.rental-car-service.com as anchor text help the keyword rental car service ?

How to move website to new domain?
We have a website that has run under the same domain name for the past 10 years. We have built up a decent amount of SEO "mojo" (and traffic) over time, however, the original domain name no longer applies to the business model. A little over 1 year ago we started using a new brand name for the website and created a landing page for that domain name. Everything on that landing page links over to pages on the original domain name (to preserve the SEO value that we have built up over the years). We would like to move all (or most) of the pages/content to the new domain name. Would using 301 redirects be the safest, most effective way of doing this? I have heard of other people doing it this way, and often they will see their traffic drop for a few weeks before it eventually comes back. Anyone else had experience with this? What worked? What didn't? Thanks!
