Hi.
We receive advice to include so many Meta values in the Head Tag on each page. Which ones are really needed and are really valuable in the SEO effort?

I mostly agree with Ryan but will offer one correction. "Revisit after" is not used at all. If I recall correctly, the concept was created by a single small search engine many years ago and was never accepted by any major search engine.
Meta tags can be created and used by anyone. For example, the "AlexaVerifyID" tag most likely is used only by Alexa and has no value to Google nor anyone else.
I prefer to perform Google site verifications by adding a file to the server rather then adding code. In my opinion code should be as lean and pure as possible and most of these tags are unnecessary. With that said, any particular software COULD make use of any tags so I would not blindly remove tags without consulting the site developer.
A simple example. I had a client with a Joomla site. I removed the meta keywords tag since we all know the tag has no value, right? Well the site's developer used the keywords tag as part of the "tagging" system so when I removed the meta tag the site functionality was impacted.

You can get rid of keywords because its deprecated. You can also get rid of googlebot and robots meta tags, as those are the default crawl directives (make sure you don't have a robots.txt that contradicts this). Revisit after is nice, but unnecessary because robots only consider it a suggestion. These are all unnecessary IMO: city, state, zip, country, subject, author, copyright, distribution, rating, generator, abstract.
I don't know what ICBM and DC.title are. The rest are verification codes, you only need them if you're actually going to use the services.

301 redirects- how long to keep and how many are too many?
Hi, I was told we have way too many 301 redirects on our site. We have some that have been there for 3 years. Our site is datacard.com . Question- how long should you keep a redirect out there when building a new page and expiring an old page? Is it 6 months, is it a certain time frame? wondering what the best practices are? Thanks! Should i include this group of text to improve ranking
Hi i am worried about my site www.in2town.co.uk because it it a magazine site i am finding it hard to find space to put text to describe the site for the search engines. I have put text near the top of the site which is under the logo and then i have put more text under the first set of headline where i have put a twitter sign and text but it does not look that great. I rank five in google for the word lifestyle magazine and feel i could do much better and i need to rank for other words but because my site is a magazine site, i am struggling. can anyone offer me advice and let me know if the text looks rubbish please.

Is having too many outgoing external links bad?
I'm currently writing articles for my site Eugene Computer Geeks and remember reading somewhere that having more then 100 outgoing links is a bad idea. I plan on writing lots of guides, and most of them will have several relevant links. Some examples are: a virus removal/prevention guide I want to link to the different antivirus programs I'm recommending. Or on the "Free WIFI in Eugene, OR" guide, I plan on linking to all the businesses' websites that offer free wifi. **Would having too many outgoing links hurt my rankings in anyway? ** If so, should I use the "nofollow" tag to prevent any harm? I always thought that having lots of relevant outgoing links was a good thing, but lately have been reading otherwise. What is all your opinions here at SeoMoz?

Meta data in includes: not ideal or a problem?
I have pages with meta data being pulled in via an include. This was to prevent people from touching the pages themselves. Is this an optimization issue- or is it OK to do?

Why Does this Site Rank for so Many Keywords?
I was doing some research today and kept coming across this site sylvane.com I checked OSE and found that it only has a DA of 37 PA of 35, and only 79 linking domains (966 links total). I got to looking and there are a few links like this http://lulala.us/twxoops/html/userinfo.php?uid=303 Anyway, accroding to SEMRush, this site ranks for over 6,000 keywords. I ran content on a couple of their high ranking pages and the content is not unique, at least not very unique on the pages I checked. What is so special about that site that google is giving it so much love? I am not trying to call them out, I just want to know what this site is doing to garner the favor of google when I have a site in the same niche with a higher DA, PA, linking domains, and social signals.

Meta Title Keywords and Company name
Currently our meta title says "Network Security Audit | Pivot Point Security" which is pretty broad considering how many services we offer. In trying to restructure our keywords, marketing and SEO focus, I came up with a new title. The problem I have is figuring out which keywords to use in the title, and with a company name with 3 words - I am running out of room. The new title idea is "Information Security Assessments - Penetration Testing | Pivot Point Security" So my questions are the following. Do I need to put the company name? Should I choose different keywords? I'm sort of at a stand still trying to figure out the best possible title since meta keywords or description won't really help ranking.
