How to interpret the keyword tool?
-
I've played with the keyword tool a bit. Some keywords have 43% difficulty and some have 55%.
What do these difficulty levels mean? I don't really know how to go about it.
-
Well the term I'm trying to rank for is "Lack of sleep."
My website: http://www.lackofsleephq.com
I've built a lot of no follow links via blog comments mostly. I'm trying to develop more web 2.0 strategies and find ways to get more dofollow links as well.
But currently, my website is in position 200 or so per google webmaster tools.

Do you mean, can you rank for it or, can you rank for it in a week or two? Yes, you can rank for it. It will require great on page SEO, quality content, more quality content, and diligence. Is it a term that can be assisted locally? etc.
Next, the other opinion I would give is don't start out worrying about #1. With our clients, we follow the rankings through campaign reports, etc. If we have a term we like and it is progressively moving up, we feel we are having an effect. If I was to be worried that a given search term was not at #1 in a fixed time period, I might go nuts....or more nuts. There are times we will have a term move up ten or twelve spots in a week and others that move slower. It really depends on the competition and the effort (quality and quantity) that is put into it.
-
Well, for instance, a keyword I'm trying to rank #1 for has "56%" difficulty.
It gets 12,000 exact searches a month. Is it worth the effort? Can I actually rank for it?

Check out this thread on the keyword difficulty tool.
In short, the percentages are meaningless unless you have experience with ranking terms at different levels. Even then it's just a starting point, and you'll be best served by analyzing the underlying data. For example, I generally have an easy time with keywords at the 50% difficulty and know that first page is reasonable within 90 days - but that's personal experience and your mileage will vary.

Brian, the easiest way to explain it is that the higher the %, the more difficult it will be to rank for a given keyword. So if you want to watch it change, take a keyword that is highly searched (bankruptcy attorney) and put it in; the difficulty comes back at say a 63%. Then look at how the top ranking urls fair in Domain Auth and Page Auth and you will see about where you need to be to get ranked on that term. But, if you make it longer Bankruptcy attorney Chapter 11, you will see % drop and PA, DA of ranked pages go down which means it is easier to rank for that term.
But...the best use of this tool is to then go part way down page to where it says run full report and click that and put in your url to see where you would rank and to compare the various metrics used in ranking. If you wish to get more info go to this blog by Rand.
Hope you try it out.

Bye Bye Keyword Difficulty Tool :(
So the Keyword Difficulty Tool will be retired from the end of this month. Is anyone else worried about this? - because I just don't trust the numbers coming back from Keyword Explorer. Never have. I've even raised this with Moz staff previously, when there was a huge difference between the score given by the keyword difficulty tool vs keyword explorer. From what I see in Domain and Page authority and in the SERPs then the score from keyword difficulty tool, was always more accurate, and thankfully have been able to use both tools, but from next month I feel somewhat uneasy about solely relying on the score from Keyword Explorer. Thoughts? and feel free to run your own tests on keywords and I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

I understand it's been asked before, however moz staff is telling me keyword's capitalization is treated as a separate keyword.
So there I was looking through my rankings like every other day, when I see a lowercase and uppercase version of a keyword. Most times I see this, I see them with the same rankings, and even researched this about 5 months ago, when I came to the conclusion that google treats them the same way. However, this day I saw them as different ranks, same keyword, only capitalized 1st letter of the 2 word keyword. I asked moz staff about this, as I felt it was an error. But was met with the answer that google does indeed treat these keywords differently. My line of thought was that the rank checker didn't check both the lowercase and uppercase keyword at the same time, and SERPs happened to change when the second word was checked for rank, returning a different rank. So now, I am in doubt again, as to uppercase and lowercase keywords being different or the same in google's eyes? I honestly don't know why a uppercase keyword would have different motive from searcher than a lowercase when many time not, searchers can't even spell the keyword correctly.

Focus Keyword
Hi, I have 2 doubts regarding keywords SEO optimization. 1. I would like to optimize the keyword "liquidation channel". The thing is, in my copy/page title/URL/etc it doesn't make a lot of sense to use this exact keyword, but rather "liquidation channels", in plural. Will I rank higher for liquidation channel anyway? And if so, to which extent? (e.g. about 70%...?) 2. I would like to optimize the homepage for the word "liquidation", but found out that some combinations using this keyword (like "liquidation sales" or "liquidation auctions") would have higher traffic and might work better for some pages. I understand I would still be ranking higher for the keyword liquidation, but to which extent? If it's 100% because the keyword is always included, does it makes sense to use 1-word keywords or should we always focus on multiple word keywords? Would the same apply for 2-words keywords vs 3-words keywords, like "wholesale liquidation" SEO rankings being applied when optimizing "wholesale liquidation sales"? Thank you,

New Rules Keywords of Google Panda
Hello Everyone,.. I want to ask regarding my confusion of Keywords. How does search engine see the keywords? and find the website that is matched with the keywords. So this is what I mean: When I type keywords "luxury dog clothes" at google, then the website which is showed up, is nothing using keyword of "luxury dog clothes". But then appeared websites which in bold words are "designer dog clothes", "dog clothes", "designer dog" . Can anyone please help me to explain why Google shows the website which is not identical matched keywords "luxury dog clothes" that I am looking for? I read at the beginer guide SEO, that the good keywords must be placed at the front of the title then in the body description, placed no more than 2 times. But in fact, for the example above, there is nothing words of "luxury dog clothes" placed at the title and in the body description. This makes me very confuse how to determine the right keyword for mine, especially the long tail keywords. Thank you everyone. Hopefully you all can help me to explain as I am a newbie at SEO.
