What to do with Deleted Posts?
-
Hi Guys,
To give way to the implementation of Google Panda, I have deleted some of my wordpress blog posts with low quality content.
Now, I am seeing some errors in my Webmasters Tools. What needs to be done so that these errors will be fixed?
Thanks....
-
If they have links pointing to them I agree with you, but if they dont, you should let them 404 or remove them though WMT,
-
Try this plugin to manage redirects from the WP admin panel.
I agree with several others that you should point users either to the homepage or main blog page after deleting those posts. The system will eventually realize what's going on and those errors will go away for you in Webmaster Tools.
-
Absolutely. If there isn't a relevant page then 301 to the home page.. eventually the old page will get removed out the respective indexes
-
I say to the relevant pages, as Duane Forresters of bing said that mass 301's to the one page will be discouned.
-
Thanks Simon...

Hi Michael
As there are no suitable alternative pages to 301 redirect them to, then yes, the Homepage will be fine, that will remove the broken links and provide a destination for anybody that clicks on one of the links.
Regards
Simon

Agree with all these responses.. add 301 redirects via .htaccess (or relevant technology applicable to your server) that will permanently redirect humans & crawlers to, at least, the home page or a relevant page with similar content.
Some of the deleted pages may still be linked from other sites or internal pages within you site...
-
Hi Simon,
The errors are 404 (Not found). Is it wise to 301 redirect them to the home page? as there are no suitable page for them.
-
Hi Allan, Yes I am referring to thin content and some that are duplicate.
Thanks for the advice, will try removing those in WMT.
-
Hi Michael
That depends on what the errors are that you're seeing in Google Webmaster Tools.
Broken Links (Pages not found) could well be one; if so, identify pages that are still linking to those old blog posts and remove those links or change them to a page that does still exist.
Or you could place a 301 redirect on those old blog post pages to a suitable page that is still live (which would have been good to do originally rather than just deleting the old posts, though you may have implemented 301s already, I don't know what your errors are).
Perhaps those old blog posts are still included in your sitemap.xml; have a look and if so, remove them from the sitemap.
You could also request through GWT that the old blog post URLs be removed from Googles index.
So a few things to have a check of there. Best of luck,
Simon

What do you mean by low quality?
unless it was duplicate or very thin content, i would not worry.
but since you have delete them, you need to do nothing, those errore will eventualy go away, but if you have links to those posts, then you might want to do a 301 rediret to a relevant page to keep the link juice. If they were low quality the chanses are they did not have any links to them, so do nothing.
You can go to WMT and remove them from the index immediately, but its is not necessary

If I change Tags and Categories in Wordpress blog post, will it negatively affect SEO and cause 404s?
Hi, I have belatedly come to the conclusion that I have been using tags and categories when blogging in wordpress incorrectly. The result is that Google seems to prefer to show my archives and tags in search results rather than the post itself. Not good UX. As the site is only a few months old, am I best to learn my lesson and tag and categorize correctly moving forward or Should I go back in to these posts and clean them up & categorize and tag correctly. If I do this, will it cause 404s and hurt my SEO? Thanks!

Can google bots read my internal post links if they are all listed in a javascript accordian where I list my sources?
I post a JavaScript accordion drop down tab [ a collapsible content area ] at the end of all my posts. I labeled the accordion "Show Article Sources"., and when a user clicks it, then the accordion expands open and it shows all the sources I listed for my article. And this is where I post all of my articles links that I reference per each article. But I read somewhere that google crawlers can not read text in a drop down JavaScript tab. So I am wondering now if this is true because that would mean I have no internal linking SEO going on since it cant read the links? ..... if it is true, then I should remove the accordion from all my articles and some how include the links I reference in the actual body text so I can get SEO benefits from external linking similar content? If that's true, what is an aesthetic way to do this, any example links? Tips ? Thoughts ?

Sitewide Links delete or add nofollow
This question has been asked before, and I’ve read most of the answers. However, things are somewhat different, as we are a web hosting company and have many clients that link to us site wide in the footer, as well we have a website builder application where we control the footer links on our end user's websites. Most use just our “domain name” or “Powered by Domain” Should we remove them? It does provide visitors some value as they can tell where the website is hosting, has been developed or how to sign up for our website builder or web hosting services. Right now, they are all follow, and we are working on cleaning up our link profile so looking for some great advice on how to proceed. Our link profile is very large since we are a web hosting company that has been around for 10 plus years. Thanks in advanced for your recommendations.

My Article Post Title in both the h1 and the h2 are the same. Is this good seo?
I'm seeing a common practice in wordpress themes where the h1 tag for a page has the logo in it, then the h2 would be the title to the article. I've decided to place the title in the h1 dynamically, like this: - Joe's Auto Store where '' is the actual title to the post - the logo is still being used as a background image in the h1... So for example, the page would show this: How install a car battery - Joe's Auto Store I think this is good seo still, but the other issue is that the first, subsequent also has the exact same title because this is the actual post title, which uses the first h2 on the page to display the title. So the code would look like this: - My Company paragraph content text stuff an example would be How install a car battery - Joe's Auto Store How install a car battery At Joe's we teach how to install batteries on site. There are mor...(etc.) Is this an issue since the post title in both the h1 and h2 are nearly the same (except for the company name)? Is this good seo still?

Delete old site but redirect domain to a new domain and site
I just have a quick query and I have a feeling about what the answer is so just wanted to see what you guys thought... Basically I am working on a client site. This client has a few other websites that are divisions of their company. However these divisions/websites are no longer used. They are wanting to delete the websites but redirect the domains to their name main website. They believe this will pass on SEO benefits as these old division sites are old and have a good PR and history. I'm unsure for DEFINITE, which way is correct?
