What Q&A Forum Platform Does SEOmoz Use?

Ha -- SEOmoz should offer a license/white-label of the forum technology. I'm sure there are many others (have not shopped yet) but I like this one.

It does make it difficult to have multiple platforms, I'll have to ask a dev though about whether we're planning on moving it all to RoR. I believe PRO is actually built on a different platform even, oy!

Actually the main site is built with CakePHP but Q&A is not. This is built in Ruby.

Yeah, it's all pretty much right. I believe the RoR token is likely for the Web App. It won't detect cakephp though, because it's a server-side framework and will therefore execute prior to the page being being returned to a browser. That said, I'm actually surprised it detected RoR.

If you mean this Q&A? I'm absolutely sure it's custom built with cakephp.

Interesting - Zendesk looks pretty powerful. I need to research more -- on the first 1 minute glance it looks more like a customer support engine vs. a forum manager, but I'm sure it can do both.

I believe it's Zendesk on an Amazon CloudFront platform, though am sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

i have been to a couple of index checking websites that are saying my website is not being indexed, my developer and seo team have been making a lot of changes recently and I think it is because of that. Also my first byte grade is D. Can I check here on seomoz if my site is being indexed by Google here in the UK?

Seomoz crawler problems
I have had Seomoz for about a month. It has crawled about 1000 pages. I have about 10,000 pages total for the site. Why are these others being a problem? I have contacted help but the guy isn't any help, we have just been going back and forth for the last two weeks. Any suggestions?

SEOMOZ Crawling Our Site
Hi there, We get a report from SEOMOZ every week which shows our performance within search. I noticed for our website www.unifor.com.au that it looks through over 10,000 pages, however our website sells less than 500 products so not sure why or how so many pages are trawled? If someone could let me know that would be great. It uses up a lot of bandwidth doing each of these searches so if the amount of pages being trawled reduced it would definitely assist. Thanks, Geoff

How do you use SEOmoz
I'm a newbie here. I've got a week left on my free trail. I really like SEOmoz, I might even love it a bit. 🙂 I'm trying to justify the cost. I usually don't spend money on my Internet Marketing. I've done it through finally buying some tools to help me get there. Massive change in the last year. I'm a long ways from getting rich YET though. 🙂 I've gone from $30 a month to $1000 a month in a year. So I think I'm on my way now. I'm trying to figure out why I should continue my subscription and actually start paying for it. If I were a developer I can certainly see why but the cost would so go way up. 🙂 I'm in the lowest level package with only five websites. I have 10 I'm working on. I know that's probably five to many at one time. I'm having a little trouble justifying the cost at this time. At my income level $100 a month is significant. I can see the value of seeing where my competition has backlinks. Sometimes my competition is Cnet. haha Well, I can beat them on a specific page at times. Hmm, can I search the URL list for links? Perhaps i can if I export it. That didn't occur to me. Now that could be of use if I can find my keywords. If their link is on Amazon though, I'm going to have trouble getting a link there. 🙂 Maybe I should work on less competitive links but I made good money last month with one page that was beating them. WAS beating them. How do you use SEOmoz? How do you justify the cost, that is offset the expense. If its not making me money i don't see the value. I can get a lot of this information for free but it sure is easier to get it here. Which saves me time. And the other tool i use isn't that good and not always reliable and slow. I've got a week left on my free trail. I had decided to let it go but now I'm reconsidering. $100 is a lot for me and I need to spend more on SEO outsourcing. I wonder if I wouldn't be better off dropping it for a while and then coming back. This certainly isn't mean to be a critical post at all. I'm looking for reasons to stay and make better use of it. Does SEOmoz have a keyword visibility report / tool?
Know of a tool where I can show the overall success of a set of keywords, us vs. the competition? A visibility report where a #1 ranking is worth 30 points, #2 is worth 29, so on and so on down to #30 worth 1 point, outside of the top 30 is worth nothing. (something like this). Trying to show an overall visibility scorecard, not sure if I can do it here or with some other tool. Didn't see it on Raven. Thanks!

A Simple(ish) Q&A Improvement
Hey Roger, In the posting etiquette it states that users should 'find out if someone has already posted your question before adding it' but we all know that is never really going to happen. So, we tend to see the same questions asked again and again when there are already top class answers in the Q&A. So, could you not implement some kind of suggested answer system? So, user posts a question, you analyse it, list potential answers that may provide the answer based on the content of the question itself. If nothing matches, the user can then go on to post the question but in many cases, they would get a top notch answer instantly. I have seen this on other sites and it would certainly cut down on the amount of duplicated questions and the suggested answers could all be hand picked to some extent (good answers, lots of thumbs up etc). So, the Q&A would have less duplication and users would get directed to the best possible answers for a given question in a shorter time frame. Good for those that do the answering, good for the people who have questions - everyone is happy. Just a thought, my tuppence, 5 cents, etc. 🙂 Marcus

Recommended Q&A Software
So I just read an SEOMoz post about the great SEO benefits of Question and Answer sites (or sections of sites) - much like the Q&A section I'm in right now. 🙂 I did some googling and haven't really found a good software for implementing (installing, skinning, integrating, etc.) a Q&A section on my website. There are a few out there, but they are pretty basic, nothing like this site or Yahoo Answers. Anyone know of good software (i'm on a PHP server) to implement Q&A on my site? Something that has the look and feel of this site or answers.yahoo.com, etc.? Thanks for the help!
