Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer?
-
Hi,
Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer?
I want to find backlinks of some unavailable pages and YSE was a great tool to deal with. But when I used tools like Open Site Explorer, ahrefs.com etc., I couldn't find one same like YSE. Because when I tried, it shows'No data available for this URL' where on YSE I found inbound links.
What Alternatives Are There?
thanks in advance!

Hi Sha Menz,
Exactly this is what I was thinking and looking to hear! Really happy to find this information. Now I can move forward, because I was doubtful whether I was right or not. thanks so much!

Hi Vipin,
Since you have all of the URLs in your robots.txt file (which incidentally is pointless since the pages are no longer there to crawl), I would suggest as follows:
-
Create a 301 (Permanent) redirect in your Windows Server's "Internet Services Manager" (since you have moved files to .aspx you will be using a Windows server)
Since you indicated that you "moved" the pages in question from html to aspx, I would expect that you should be able to redirect to corresponding pages.
If I were doing this in a LAMP system (not Windows) I use a single line of code to rewrite all .html extensions to .aspx as a 301 Redirect.
Logically, it should be possible to do the same on a windows server, but since ours is a LAMP Shop I can't offer specifics on that I'm afraid -
Once the redirects have been created, remove all of those URL's from the robots.txt file
Hope that helps,
Sha

Hi, thans so much! To understand it you should know a little more. Last year we removed my site's old html pages to .aspx pages and there after removing, all the html pages were added to robot.txt. But that time nobody taken care of backlink juice and for a redirection.
I never used MajesticSEO or Google/Bing's link: search operator. But use web analytics referral data. What more I must do to move forward?
Thanks.

What do you mean by "unavailable pages/pages that doesn't exist"? Are they returning an HTTP status of 404 NOT FOUND? Have you heard of or ever tried MajesticSEO (https://www.majesticseo.com/)? You can even try using Google/Bing's link: search operator but you won't be able to export the data like YSE. Lastly, have you tried looking in your web analytics referral data? Although it won't illustrate the number of links to the page, it'll give you an idea which links are driving traffic on what domain.

hi, this is not an error in copying or as you think. I have mentioned it, i need to find inbound links of pages that doesn't exist. In fact those pages are blocked using robot.txt. so no detail avail on google webmaster except robot.txt.

To be sure you should copy the link from the browser and insert it to Opensiteexplorer. By doing that you should'nt get "no data available". You probably got it wrong with or without the sub www.
I dont get all backlinks in Opensiteexplorer but I do get pretty much all domains with influense (bigger sites). another tool is google webmaster tools. That would give you all the backlinks witch has driven traffic to yur site.

Why do crawlers still track meta keywords if it is not needed in my site?
I have crawled three sites already and it returns more than 5000 errors most of which are MIssing Meta Keywords tags. The sites are on Wordpress and using my SEO plugin I can easily edit the meta keywords of each page, but I am having second thoughts. Well should I?

In the hierarquical structure of the site I would like to define a campaign in a given level of that structure down to leafs. How can I define it?
I have many categories in my site and each one has others sub categorias and so on until the last categories points to products pages. I want a campaign that crawls just from a given category (or sub category) down to all produtcs pages. How can I do that? I am not sure if defining a folder would accomplish taht? Lets say I have category C, D and E. Sub categories on D are D1, D2, D3 and producs on D3 are D3P1, D3P2 and so on... How can I define a campaig on category D3 and get D3, D3P1, D3P2 crawled?

Why doesn't OSE show results from sites like Wikipedia, YouTube, Twitter, etc.?
I know OSE used to provide link data from these domains. But I have been doing link profile lookups on sites that I know have links from these domains - and they don't show up in my results. Just to make sure, they don't even show up when I sort the sites by domain authority.

What's Happened To OSE's External Links For My Site?
Hi, I'm just taking my first steps with Open Site Explorer. I've hit a problem that I'd be really grateful for some help with. I'm running a website (that I didn't create) and want to get a clear picture of the inbound links. When I enter the URL into the OSE search bar, there are no external domains listed under the 'Inbound Links' and 'Linking Domains' tabs. Only internal site links are registered. Setting the filters, "only external" + "pages on this root domain", under the Inbound Links tab, does bring up a list of external sites. But I haven't had to enter filters just to see a list of inbound links with any other sites. Also, the breakdown under the Linking Domains tab remains the same - only links within my site are shown. Does this ring a bell? Any ideas what I might be doing wrong, or what might be wrong with my site to cause this problem? Cheers for helping, Josh

Potential site architecture problem.
We are experiencing a problem in which category pages do not appear to be passing Page Authority to subcategory pages. See the example below: Home page has PA of 47 http://www.minespress.com/ The next level category page down has a PA of 34 http://www.minespress.com/category/apparel The next sub category down has PA of 1, and shows no links at all in spite of the fact that we got to it from a category link http://www.minespress.com/category/golf-shirts The page in question is crawlable, is indexed and has nothing that we can see that would be prevent it from showing Page Authority and a link profile using your tools. Do we have a site architecture problem?

Site is penalized yet Google WTC and SEOMOZ says it's ok!
My first question on this community.. A high traffic site of mine has been severely hit for over two months. I took a look at GWTC and noticed a lot of suggestions on the HTML suggestions tab, where I believed that one or a combination of these errors/notices might been causing the penalty. At the moment of typing GWTC shows no HTML suggestions and minor meaningless crawl errors. Checking on SEOMOZ reported issues, I see zero errors except for a high number of duplicate page titles resulting from tag pages being accessible in the same tag title in paginations (tag.html?page=x) which can be fixed easily by using rel=canonical but I just know it can't cause such penalty. For reported warnings, site has a decent amount of title element being too long and missing meta tag description tags. I have been very active in the past with 301 inner pages of the site to make pages URLs as unique as possible and results were great, but that was long time ago before taking the hit. The penalty the site suffers from is zero rankings for newly added contents and old contents as well. It has also lost all rankings for its money terms. Site is not banned and still ranking top for its name which is a good thing. I am not sure where else I should be looking and will appreciate any good advices. Thanks!

Any tools for scraping blogroll URLs from sites?
This question is entirely in the whitehat realm... Let's say you've encountered a great blog - with a strong blogroll of 40 sites. The 40-site blogroll is interesting to you for any number of reasons, from link building targets to simply subscribing in your feedreader. Right now, it's tedious to extract the URLs from the site. There are some "save all links" tools, but they are also messy. Are there any good tools that will a) allow you to grab the blogroll (only) of any site into a list of URLs (yeah, ok, it might not be perfect since some sites call it "sites I like" etc.) b) same, but export as OPML so you can subscribe. Thanks! Scott
