Wordpress Plugin Causing Mobile Switcher 404 Errors
-
Hi All,
Has anyone seen this 404 error before? I installed a wordpress plugin that would allow users to switch between a mobile and desktop theme. This was about 6 months ago and I thought nothing of it.
Since I am new to SeoMoz, I have become aware of this lovely problem. After setting up my campaign, I now have 1600 something 404 errors due to this plugin. It looks like this plugin creates 4 to 5 links for each one of my posts and they all return up as a 404 error.
Example:
http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/
or
http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/?wpmp_switcher=desktop
I just noticed this morning in Google Webmaster tools that the errors are starting to show up there.
Has anyone seen this? Or know if this is a problem and what to do?

Works perfectly thanks. Guess we will see over time if it stops errors from occuring.

We use WPTouch, which is pretty easy to use and seems to work well. It was having issues with WP Super Cache.

I was using Wordpress Mobile Pack. It is currently deactivated but would like to find something that works. Any recommendations?
Also, the only cache that I know off the top of my head is with XML Site Map generator. I can enable that. Is that what you are talking about or should I look somewhere else?
Thanks for responding...

Not sure what plug-in you're using, but my non-profit's website had a similar issue earlier this year where some of the mobile traffic would randomly 404 or show a non-mobile person the mobile site. We found that it was a conflict between that plug-in and another we were using to cache the site. We went ahead and got rid of the cache plug-in, which had numerous issues including slowing down our site, and that seemed to solve it.

Could my Crawl Error Report be wrong?
HI there, I am using Yoast SEO plugin on a wordpress website. I am currently showing 70 Med priority crawl errors 'missing meta description' on my Moz pro account. This number of missing meta descriptions has increased over the last 6 weeks. But every single page / post / tag / category has both the title and meta description completed via Yoast. I requested a google bot to crawl the site a few weeks ago as thought it perhaps wasn't been crawled and updated. Any idea what the issue might be? Could the Moz report be incorrect for some reason? Or could something be blocking Moz / Google from seeing the Yoast plugin?

What is the best approach to handling 404 errors?
Hello All - I'm a new here and working on the SEO on my site www.shoottokyo.com. When I am finding 4xx (Client Errors) what is the best way to deal with them? I am finding an error like this for example: http://shoottokyo.com/2010/11/28/technology-and-karma/ This may have been caused when I updated my permalinks from shoottokyo.com/2011/09/postname to shoottokyo.com/postname. I was using the plug in Permalinks moved permanently to fix them. Sometimes I am able to find http://shoottokyo.com/a-very-long-week/www.newscafe.jp and I can tell that I simply have a bad link to News Cafe and I can go to the post and correct it but in the case of the first one I can't find out where the crawler even found the problem. I'm using Wordpress. Is it best to just use a plugin like 'Redirection' to move the rest that have errors where I cannot find the source of the issue? Thanks Dave

Weird 404 Errors
Hi All, Although my Moz error scans have been pretty clean for a while, a law firm site I manage recently cropped up with 80+ 404 errors since the last scan. I'm a little baffled as the url it shows being returned looks like this: http://www.yoursite.com/ http://www.yoursite.com/resource.html For some reason it seems to be initiating a query to call the root domain twice before the actual resource. I installed ModX Revolution 2.2.6-PL on the site in question, and am hoping a canonical plugin I just started using will take care of these. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to solve the issue? Thanks for your time and any tips!

The "top pages" keeps hanging while trying to retrieve social metrics "FB Shares" "Tweets" and "Google +1". I've tried in Chrome and Firefox. Can I just turn these off? ose-hanging.jpg

I did a redirect and now I'm getting duplication errors.
I was told by SEO Moz to do a redirect so that our website would be crawled with and without the www in front of the address. I did and now I'm getting duplicate page and title errors because the crawler is seeing www.oursitename.com and its underpages and oursitename.com and its underpages and giving me duplicate page content errors and duplicate page title errors. Makes sense, but how do I make it stop? Anyone else have this problem?

Weird client errors . . .
SeoMoz is reporting a number of weird client errors. The 404 links all look like the following: http://www.bluelinkerp.com/http%3A/www.bluelinkerp.com/corporate/cases/Nella.asp What might be causing these weird links to be picked up? I couldn't find any way within the SEOmoz interface to track down the source of these links . . .

Dot Net Nuke generating long URL showing up as crawl errors!
Since early July a DotNetNuke site is generating long urls that are showing in campaigns as crawl errors: long url, duplicate content, duplicate page title. URL: http://www.wakefieldpetvet.com/Home/tabid/223/ctl/SendPassword/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2F Is this a problem with DNN or a nuance to be ignored? Can it be controlled? Google webmaster tools shows no crawl errors like this.

Where do these error 404 pages come from
Hi, I've got a list of about 12 url's in our 404 section on here which I'm confused about. The url's relate to Christmas so they have not been active for 9 months. Can anyone answer where the SeoMoz crawler found these url's as they are not linked to on the website. Thanks
