301 redirect
-
Hello,
I received a crawl diagnostic report for the website http://www.advancedemt.com
here's what it said:
Issue: (301 redirect)
Page Title URL:http://advancedemt.com/
Redirects to:http://http://www.advancedemt.com/
I called seohosting.com for help:
- They checked my .httaccess file and did not find anything that would cause this 301 redirect..
- Cpanel was evaluated for a 301 redirect and nothing there either.
- MyPHP Admin was checked for anything that could possibly cause this issue.
- They had a tech search the entire database and no luck on any issue that may be causing the SEOmoz software to pick up this 301 redirect.
- We checked the Wordpress settings... No discrepancies.
- Wordpress permalinks... No problems.....
- We checked Google to see if they may have indexed the site for the error with no luck... I told the SEO Hosting staff that the canonical feature that has been built into Wordpress would prevent this redirect from allowing Google to index the site with this error.
Is it possible that the crawl diagnostics is wrong???
Please help...
Best regards, Jeff Bratcher (404) 520-2385

Hi Sha,
I really appreciate your in depth explanation. I wiil try to email the help staff and see if they can help me understand why this notice continues to show up as a redirect.
I am so OCD when it comes to my websites. Cannot tolerate anything short of perfection. Lol
Thanks for your help, Jeff Bratcher

Hi Kane,
- I entered advancedemt.com into the SEOmoz Pro Dashboard to track this site.
- In the WordPress settings set-up it is entered as www.advancedemt.com
All of my other sites are set-up the same exact way. I cannot understand why SEOmoz is showing a 301 redirect of advancedemt.com to http://http://www.advancedemt.com
The Canonical feature that comes with WP makes everything function without any issues, but I do not know how Google is indexing the site...
Thanks, Jeff Bratcher

Hi Jeff,
The 301 Redirect is not reported as an Error in the Pro App, but a Notice.
You can see this in the Crawl Diagnostics Summary where you see the big Red, Blue & Yellow buttons.
Notices are listed in the yellow section.
For each of the sections there is a short explanation and the Notices section reads as follows:
Notices are interesting facts about your pages we found while crawling.
So what this means is that items listed in the Notices section are simply highlighted to ensure that you are aware they exist. The 301 redirect from the non www root domain to the www sub-domain is normal practice to ensure that the pages in your site are not seen as duplicates of each other by search engines. So, there is no need to be concerned about the 301 redirect highlighted in your Pro App Report.
The Errors(red) and Warnings(blue) are the issues that can have an impact on the SEO health of your site.
The explanatory notes explain this:
Errors - Pages with crawl errors are often difficult for search engines to crawl, index and rank.
Issues listed as Errors should be dealt with and eliminated as quickly as possible.
Warnings - Pages with crawl warnings are often penalized by search engines.
Issues listed as Warnings may be a problem for your site, but in some cases (for example where you know that you have added 302 Redirects for a specific purpose) you may just say to yourself, "yes, that is the way I want it to be" and choose to ignore them.
When you are looking at each individual page in the Pro App reports, you will find a tiny blue Help link at the top right of each page (directly above the export link) which will take you to an in-depth explanation of that particular Pro App feature.
Also, if you are ever concerned about something in your reports, you can always ask a question here in Q&A or email the Help team direct at help@seomoz.org. Those guys are awesome and always happy to help out, as are the many members & Associates who lend a hand here in Q&A.
Staff also cruise through Q&A from time to time, but with so many questions posted each day, if you have an issue that needs staff input it is a good idea to email the help team and make them aware of it as soon as possible.
I hope that helps.
Sha

Hi Jeff,
http://www.advancedemt.com/ appears to work fine for me, and http://advancedemt.com/ appears to redirect just fine.
We can't view your first link since it's only for your account, and the second link you gave was missing the colon in http:// - I don't think that's related to the SEOmoz error you're seeing but just pointing it out.
Is it possible that the domain was spelled incorrectly in your site settings? Also, if your proper domain has the "www." prefix, and you typed it without a prefix into your SEOMoz settings, they might view that as an error. Was your domain entered without the "www." in your dashboard?

Only 2 Inbound Links which are the Redirect 301 Links
Hello Everyone, We're having a serious Problem with the ranking of our website so we started testing the website in different Tools. Almost all of the tools say our website works great and in comparision to our competitors we win in almost every test – but we rank behind them. The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that our website has only 2 Inbound links (Open Site Explorer) when the link source is set to only internal. And the only links shown are 2 links that come from the old http (we're using https) and redirect 301 to our https. No other links – in other tools we have around 80 internal links to our rmain https-webadress. Does anyone have an idea where that comes from? I'm afraid this might be our issue in ranking behind of lots of our competitors. Lokking forward to your ideas and suggestions.

Redirecting back to initial redirect.
Hello, I have an example site A.com that is currently being redirected to site B.com. My client is having issues with B.com and finding that there is more equity in site A.com. The client now wants us to have A.com as the site. What is the best way to proceed with implementing A.com without hurting search in the long run, since A.com was initially a 301 redirect to B.com. How should I proceed in this redirection back to A.com What pitfalls should I look out for that could affect SEO and how should I input safegaurds to protect myself? I appreciate the support

Add to cart redirect using 302
I am getting a list of crawl errors in Moz because I am using a 302 redirect when people click on an item using the quickview add to cart eg:http://copyfaxes.com/cart/quickadd?partno=4061 will redirect them to the viewshoppingcart page. Is this wrong should this be a 301 redirect? There is no link juice to pass. Thanks

Temporary Redirects
Hi, I've noticed that most of my temporary redirects are the cause of this parameter. http://www.maddenstudents.com/forum/search.php**?s=2f0b01c7d530cf117a2bbb6811f0b527**&do=finduser&userid=1&contenttype=vBForum_Post&showposts=1 http://www.maddenstudents.com/forum/search.php**?s=2f0b01c7d530cf117a2bbb6811f0b527**&do=finduser&userid=1&searchthreadid=15&contenttype=vBForum_Post&showposts=1 I also noticed that almost all of my duplicate content and duplicate titles are the cause of this parameter. I tried going into google webmasters, but they say i don't need to change anything. How do I get rid of this parameter because it seems to be causing a lot of errors and warning for me.

302 redirects
We just went through a redesign and i had a lot of 301 redirects created. Looking over my crawl report in SEOmoz, i see over 14k 302 redirects with a message to change them to 301s. When confronting my IT team, I was assured these were all done with 301 status codes. Any advice on where to go from here and/or why I'm seeing this message in SEOmoz if its not true? Thanks!

How long will it take for Page Rank (or Page Authority) to flow via a 301 redirect?
I've recently redeveloped a static site using WordPress and have created 301 redirects for the original urls to the new urls. I know I won't get all the value passed via the 301, but I'm hoping some will. Any idea how long this may take? It's been nearly a month since the changeover so wondering if it would be weeks, months or more?

Is Open Site Explorer ignoring 301 redirects now?
I just recently saw a huge decline in the page rank of a specific page on my site. When I investigated a bit further I noticed that the drop in page rank looks like it is due to the fact that most of the links to the page come through 301 re-directs from an old page. I know you just made a change to Open Site Explorer. Did you change the way that you are treating 301 re-directs? Here is the new page: http://www.justjen.com/shop/big-sister-tshirts.htm Here is the old page: http://www.justjen.com/shop/bigsister-tshirts.htm Up until the last couple of days, the new page was showing the links from the old page in your cache, but as of today, the new page is only showing the links that go to it, not the links to the old page that is re-directed to it. If there was a change recently, was this intentional (trying to replicate the search engines better) or is it an oversight or database anomaly?

When does Open Site Explorer automatically follow a redirect?
Does anyone know what determines when Open Site Explorer will ask if you meant to type in the redirected URL or when it will automatically change the URL to the www version. example of a site I get asked the redirect question: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons.html?site=checkbook.org Oh Hey! It looks like that URL redirects to www.checkbook.org/. Would you like to see data for <a class="clickable redirects">that URL instead</a>? example of a site that redirects automatically: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons.html?site=healthleap.com
