Ensuring Assets (PDFs, PowerPoint Files, Word Docs, etc.) are Indexable on Site
-
Hi there - I'm working on an educational site in which users will be able to search our repository of PDF articles, PowerPoint files, and so on through an on-site search engine. What is the best way to ensure each of these documents/assets are indexable by Google since they technically don't reside on an HTML page....they are just pulled up if the user searches for them? The site itself is just a few pages, but the files, articles, and videos in the repository are in the hundreds. Should I just name and tag them properly and make sure they're all included in an XML site map? Anything else suggested?
Thanks very much!

The more links a sitemap the it harder it is for people to follow but should be ok for search spiders.

Thanks for your response Chris! Good suggestion on the HTML sitemap. Any concerns if there are a couple of hundred links on this HTML site map page?

I would build 2 sitemaps for these files, 1 XML sitemap and 1 HTML sitemap, separate from the main sitemap and add these to Google WMT. The HTML Sitemap could also be used as a directory for visitors too.
Where possible link to the documents from the site too, this will increase the chances that the assets are indexed by Google.

How to effectively de-index in Magento site?
We have thousands of Missing Description issues but most of them are account/login pages. i.s. /customer/account/ etc... We tried to de-index them through the Configuration using the instructions here - https://docs.magento.com/user-guide/marketing/search-engine-robots.html But they're still appearing as issues in the Site Crawl. Even without the site crawl issue, we don't really want these to appear in the SERPs. Does anybody know how to properly de-index these login pages in Magento? Thank you!

Mobile site backlinks?
Hello, Our mobile site redirects to desktop in a desktop browser and vice versa; however, they are different sites. This said, shouldn't the backlinks for our mobile site be the same as for our desktop site since one redirects to the other. We show no backlinks in my analysis? Any help or insight would be extremely appreciated! Thank you!

Expert Indexation challenge!
We have a major and strange indexation problem on our site for several languages for a while now. If I type in the search query "langsom computer" ("slow pc" in Danish) it used to display the page (www.spamfighter.com/SLOW-PCfighter/Lang_DA/) in the top 3. Now it displays this site instead as result #11 which is an entirely different product: http://www.spamfighter.com/VIRUSfighter/Lang_DA/ The same happens for some other languages. The French search: "Optimisez votre PC trop lent avec une meilleure performance" (Optimize your slow PC for better performance) displays: http://www.spamfighter.com/VIRUSfighter/Lang_FR/ which has nothing in common with the search and the page intended: http://www.spamfighter.com/SLOW-PCfighter/Lang_FR/ Anyone have ANY idea what this could be?

Page not being indexed
Hi all, On our site we have a lot of bookmaker reviews, and we are ranking pretty good for most bookmaker names as keywords, however a single bookmaker seems to have been shunned by Google. For a search "betsafe" in Denmark, this page does not appear among the top 50: http://www.betxpert.com/bookmakere/betsafe All of our other review pages rank in top 10-20 for the bookmaker name as keyword. What to do if Google has "banned" a page? Best regards, Rasmus

Site Hosting Question
We are UK based web designers who have recently been asked to build a website for an Australian Charity. Normally we would host the website in the UK with our current hosting company, but as this is an Australian website with an .au domain I was wondering if it would be better to host it in Australia. If it is better to host it in Australia, I would appreciate if someone could give me the name of a reasonably priced hosting company. Thanks Fraser
