Does changing the IP matter?
-
[same server; same speed]
I don't think so, whatsoever right?
-
I also never had any problems changing the IP. The servers changed (from Switzerland to Germany), but that didn't seem to affect anything - since Amazon's EC2 came up, they seem to be less strict on geolocation.
However, here's a video of Mr. Cutts about changing webhosts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfqKKquA_R0&feature=player_embedded He only mentions to change TTL in the DNS settings, so that the change goes faster, so I assume there are no additional points to notice.

If it is same server, same speed and only C-class IP change, i don't think it will matter that much.Once we did change ip address and nothing gone up and down.
But whole different IP address from another geo-location would definitely matter, in terms of ranking, localization , re-indexing and stuff.
Well that is my understanding.
-
agreed. our rankings didn't get touched when we changed. but I agree that a different location is a change and can affect rankings. anyone else?
-
I changed about a year ago, and my rankings went for a week of so even longer on Bing. Others have said it does not matter. I have no proof other then my expirence. But there is logic to it, a domian name has to be resolved into a IP number to find the website, so it is obviouse to the SE that there is a change. SE will want to know your new geo location from your ip numbner and stuff, so it may be that they will see it as a new site and take time to reindex it as it would with a domain name change.

Root domain change - how do we best handle existing backlinks from our own content platforms on youtube, etc?
Hi, we have recently changed our brand name after 7 years and have changed our root domain to match (33shake.com since 2012, now 33 fuel.com) The site is the same (no migration to a new one) as there were no other business changes apart from the name/domain. 301 redirects are looking after all former 33shake.com links, which are now being redirected to their new 33fuel.com equivalents (slugs are the same in 99% of cases). My question is: We have a lot of backlinks for our old domain (33shake.com) on our own content via our YouTube channel (100+ videos) and also our podcast (64 episodes in, broadcast on 10 platforms). For maximum SEO benefit as we continue to restore domain authority, etc to 33fuel.com, are we best to leave these historical backlinks pointed at the old domain and let the redirects pick them up when people click? Or are we better off swapping all of these old historical backlinks so they point directly to the new domain? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, this is quite a maze we are now picking our way through! Warren

I am looking at ways to develop a Subject Matter Expert as an influencer.
In our blog posts the schema.org Article - Author - @type = 'thing' instead of 'person'. The name is correct. Do you think it would help develop my influencer by getting the @type set as 'person'? or not relevant? I am looking at ways to develop a Subject Matter Expert as an influencer any suggestions appreciated.

What changes do i need to make to my site to get into google news
Hi, when we had the old design, we were in google news but then when we upgraded our site, we had a major problem which forced us to have to redesign our site. Since then we have not been included in google news and we would like to get back in. We only want to be in google news for the following page http://www.in2town.co.uk/Latest-News-Headlines But for some reason, no matter what we do we keep getting knocked back. I would love to know what we should be doing to get into google news and see what the problems are. We have moved to a bigger dedicated server to increase speed so i know it is not that. Any help would be great Also is there an alternative to google news that i can get our site into to generate traffic and to get our news stories straight out to people Hi, Thank you for your note. My company is changing ecommerce platforms. What are image URL considerations?
My company is switching from osCommerce to Magento. What should I do about my image URL's? Should I try to recreate the filenames and directory paths from the old site on the new one? How bad is it for our SEO if I can't do that?
