How to rank lower, fast....
-
Probably the complete opposite to all the questions asked on here before hehe
One of my online stores is ranking in Google at no2 for a service we used to offer but no longer do as we do not have the contract anymore. We need to derank the listing as fast as we can we do not offer this service now. Normally we could just get google to deindex the page but it's the homepage we are ranking. It is ranking due to a good collection of exact match backlinks on.
Have been trying to get our page off the first page for a couple of months but it appears that we did too good a job of getting it up there...it's not moving!
Anyone have a suggestion please on how we can get off page one asap for this keyword without deindexing the homepage for our store?
note: the keyword in question has not appeared on the site for a couple of months, removing that has had no impact on the ranking
Thanks

You're perfectly correct, but I thought I'd point it out. Sites can rank with no on-site SEO, but what I was trying to say is that it's much, much more difficult.
Thanks for correcting my mistake

Hi
All the keywords are removed from the page. I do take issue with the 'If there is nothing on the page about X, it won't rank for X, even if a lot of links are pointing at the page with anchor text X.'
I have many websites, both ones I own and client's sites, which are ranking for keywords not contained on the website at all. With enough links you can even rank a coming soon type page.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Have started a limited campaign of sending backlinks to the websites below me. If I can get down to position 11 that will do in the short term/

Remove all the on-site SEO attributions that are making the page rank. If there is nothing on the page about X, it won't rank for X, even if a lot of links are pointing at the page with anchor text X. For example, if the keyword is anywhere on the page, remove it.
Use this is combination with Casey's strategy (contacting webmasters to change the anchor text), and you should start to see good results.

You could build links and help the competitors on the page other than your store rank higher for the phrase.

I'm giving you a thumbs up for that question, It was funny. I don't thing there is anything you can do. Nothing comes to mind. Maybe you can get those back links pointed to your competitors.
-
I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding the question completely, but is it possible you could use a canonical tag on the page and essentially redirect it to your desired homepage?
-
You mentioned you have a number of exact match links coming in for that keyword. You could spend some time trying to contact the linking sites in changing out your anchor text.
Do you offer any similar service or product? You could maybe try and just sell the existing users on a different, similar product.

Ranking for non-existing content which is 301 redirected
Hey there, In the beginning of this year I've made complete site migration from Dutch language to English. All the old Dutch URL's were 301 redirected to the English versions. I naturally lost rankings for all Dutch keywords during the next month. On the website there is no Dutch content anymore. But what happened now is that five months later the website started to rank for the Dutch keywords again. The page snippets in SERP are in English but the URL's shown are in Dutch (ending with .nl) and whenever a user clicks on the snippet he/she gets 301 to the correct English version. Any ideas what could be the reason for re-ranking of non-existing pages which gets 301 in SERP?

Does the domain extension effect domain authority and ranking
We have produces a website on a .company domain extension. We have produced a good sized website with unique content. However the DA remains at 1. There are no high priority issues in the page crawl. We suspect that the domain extension may be causing a lower DA. Is this a ranking factor?

Crawl Attempt Errors & Homepage Not Ranking
Hi all, I have scanned the community forum thoroughly to find a solution to this issue and noticed some detailed and informed responses, but I am not sure which apply to the issue we are currently having. We are receiving a lot of 803 Crawl Attempt Errors on a weekly basis for our site www.mangofurniture.co.uk and also our homepage isn't ranking and I can't help but think that the two are linked. We have some rankings for the internal pages and have a couple of other sites that use the same template as www.mangofurniture.co.uk that are doing well with no crawl attempt errors and strong homepage rankings. There are a lot of great resources out there on the Moz forum and elsewhere but I am little unsure what applies to our problem or whether to two are linked at all. We have tried rewriting the homepage and developing the internal linking system but to no success as yet. Also, because the site is fairly new so the link profile is quite small at present. Any advice regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

How do sites manage to rank better with no fresh content
hi, trying to work out why there are lots of sites that are ranking better than me. Our site www.in2town.co.uk has always been on the first page and for a long time we were number one in google for the term lifestyle magazine as well as being on the first page for other keywords. Our site is www.in2town.co.uk We had a site upgrade a few months ago and since then we have seen our rankings have dropped like a lead balloon. I do not understand why sites such as the following seem to rank better than me for the word lifestyle magazine http://www.lifestyle.org/ http://www.24sevenlifestyle.com/ http://www.lifestylesmagazine.com/website/ http://motabilitylifestyle.co.uk/ http://www.alifestylemagazine.com/ if anyone can help me understand what i am doing wrong and why my rankings have gone out of the window then it would be a huge help.

Wrong Page Ranking
Higher-level page with more power getting pushed out by weaker page in the SERPs for an important keyword. I don't care about losing the weaker page. Should I: 404 the weaker page and wait for Google to (hopefully) replace it with the stronger page? 301 the weaker page to the stronger page? NOTE: Due to poor communication between content team and myself, the weak and strong pages have similar title tags (i.e, "lawsuits" and "litigation")

Importance of keyword in the content to rank well
Well, I am very beginner seo. our website is www.theprinterdepo.com and our main keyword for the moment is refurbished printers, but there might be hundreds of more keywords. I was analyzing the SERPs and found that for our keyword, the first 2 websites that come up have very different content 1.http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=PRN They rank first, but I dont see a lot of text with the keyword in their text or links 2. http://www.valstarprinters.com/ They mention the keywords lots of times in the text, probably they are doing keyword stuffing? So this makes me thing, how the 1st one ranked there? just by link builiding?

Website Ranking Issue
Hi, We have been performing our own onsite of offsite SEO along with external assistance and have ranked well over the years with minimal impact from Google updates. Howevr the last so called Panda update has affected us heavily pushing our main phrase 'web design melbourne' from 2nd to 7th where we have been for almost 2 months now on Google.com.au irrespective of onsite or offsite work. We have been trying to find signs of any onsite, IP, duplicate content, titles or other issues that may be holding us back to no avail. The only flag that Google webmaster tools is showing is a number of bad internal site links, which I think is a glitch with the CMS we are using. Even the SEO MOZ tool gives us a higher ranking compared to most competitors on page 1 of Google.com.au for our main phrase. The biggest difference between us and competitors is we chose to target an internal page specific to the topic rather than our homepage. With this sadi we have also reduced our keyword density and content quantity inline with the other sites homepages. Can anyone help shed some light on this? and perhaps something obvious that we have missed, or where we should be looking? Thanks.
