Cloud Hosting + CDN worth it?

Hi,
Never used cloud hosting before. Found a service for $60-70 a month, just want to give it a try on a new website.
They also have an additional CDN feature for additional $40 a month. It promises great results as well as google's love.
Does cloud hosting+cdn worth it's money?
Website will have around 500 visitors a day, but all will be ppc, so there is no need for a server. but reliability is a great issue

60-70$ a month is way too much. Today you can get free Cloud CDN + Proxy acceleration from a number of providers.

With 500 visitors - forget CDNs.

Careful adding embedded video. Your site won't get the link juice of that video URL if it's linked to Youtube, Vimeo, or other video hosting site unless you can customize the domain (most likely subdomain) to the site you are hosting it on. Remember, Youtube is a search engine!
CDNs like AWS have edge servers in many countries (Cloudfront) and allow for custom domains. Video hosting sites aren't necessarily fast; your video needs to create a certain amount of traffic to stay in the cache. Stale video is likely to get pulled from a storage system and then loaded into cache, which is the way most CDNs work.
Anyway, try a service called loadimpact.com and test your sites performance. Make sure to sign up and configure the test to use Simulated Browser Users (SBUs).

Site 5 is great. I do reseller hosting though them. I was just chatting with Dawn today actually. She always saves my ass.
If you are experiencing lags in loading, a CDN will help.
But if you are using something like Youtube and embedding your video (which you really want to cause their servers are faster and geared for video), you don't need a CDN. -
I understand your concern for speed.
For you, caching would suffice. Serving up cached html files on a shared server is quite fast. So i really don't think you need cloud hosting.CDNs really help when you have a lot of images. What it does is split the server load from one server to two, and you split the number of http requests over a couple servers speeding things along. I would really only consider it if you have lots of photos.

I'd be interested in this also. My site has a lot of images (but even worse, a lot of videos). I'm trying to speed up my site, and I was also looking at the CDN. I have been using Site5 shared hosting and I have been very happy with it. (I get a lot more traffic that 500 a day, and it works great.) They also have a VPS that is priced very fair, but to be honest the shared hosting has been incredible. Not to mention their customer service has been outstanding.
I am interested to hear peoples opinion on CDN's though.

yes, site is on wordpress and w3 cache is already installed. I have it on all wordpress sites.
godady, 1and1, bluehost etc.. had problems with all of them.
The thing is that site speed is very important for us. Site will have 30% of traffic through mobile phones. Also, the site will be in a very competitive niche with high cpc. As you know, site speed also influence your Quality Score.
I should have asked a little different. obviously there is no need for a server. what combination would be the best for this money range? Will there be an advantage in using CDN as a plus to Cloud hosting?

For 500 visitors a day, I think Cloud and CDN are a bit overkill. Most cheap shared servers have a 99% uptime.
I think it really depends on how critical you have 100% uptime. (and even then most say 99.99%).
CDN would be beneficial if you have lots of images and you are international.
There are cheaper solutions for CDN as well. Amazon Web Services is based only on what you use.
There's a plugin in WordPress called W3 Total Cache which caches your whole site (rendering it pretty under heavy traffic), plus it will tie into AWS. The plugin is free, and then you're only using what you are using from Amazon.
Again, I just think it depends on how big you are, and 500 unique visitors isn't really a lot to handle for most hosting accounts.

Square Space Struggles - Is it worth the bother?
Hi all. We have always struggled to rank Square Space and Wix sites. In one case we switched a site to WP and it ranked for a local term within weeks. Does anyone know the technical reason why SS & Wix seem to have this issue? I have searched other questions and have read that SS sites ranking well are hard to find. Need Third Party Input. Our Web host blocked all bots including Google and myself because they believe SEO is slowing down their server.
I would like some third party input... partly for my sanity and also for my client. I have a client who runs a large online bookstore. The bookstore runs in Magento and the developers are also apparently the web host. (They actually run the servers.. I do not know if they are sitting under someones desk or are actually in a data center) Their server has been slowed down by local and foreign bots. They are under the impression my SEO services are sending spammer bots to crawl and slow down their site. To fix the problem they disallowed all bots. Everything, Google, Yahoo, Bing. They also banned my access from the site. My clients organic traffic instantly took a HUGE hit. (almost 50% of their traffic is organic and over 50% is Organic + Adwords most everything from Google) Their keyword rankings are taking a quick dive as well. Could someone please verify the following as true to help me illustrate to my client that this is completely unacceptable behavior on part of the host. I believe: 1.) You should never disavow ALL robots from your site as a solution for spam. As a matter of fact most of the bad bots ignore robots.txt anyways. It is a way to limit where Google searches (which is obviously a technique to be used) 2.) On site SEO work as well as link building, etc. is not responsible for foreign bots and scrappers putting a heavy load on the server. 3.) Their behavior will ultimately lead to a massive loss of rankings (already happening) and a huge loss of traffic (already happening) and ultimately since almost half the traffic is organic the client could expect to lose a large sum of revenue from purchases made by organic traffic since it will disappear. Please give your input and thoughts. I really appreciate it!

Risk of hosting website on internal application server
This isn't really related to SEO, but it came up with a client.... We have a client that is hosting their website internally. That's not a problem except that the server it is hosted on is the same server where they host many secure applications with sensitive customer information. We recommended to the marketing vp to move the website to a different server that doesn't host secure apps so we don't have be concerned about any conflicts. Their IT folks pushed back. Moving site between hosts over short time scale
Hi Does anyone know if moving your website between hosts & server location 3 times in a relatively short time frame (say 2 months) can have a negative impact from an seo perspective ? Cheers

Is it worth changing our blog post URL's?
We're considering changing the URL's for our blog posts and dropping the date information. Ex. http://spreecommerce.com/blog/2012/07/27/spree-1-1-3-released/ changes to http://spreecommerce.com/blog/spree-1-1-3-released/ Based on what I've learned here the new URL is better for SEO but since these pages already exist do we risk a minor loss of Google juice with 301 redirects? We have a sitemap for the blog posts so I imagine this wouldn't be too hard for Google to learn the new ones.

Should I change my host
Have a feeling that the answer will be obvious here but more opinions are always good... I own a number of domains, mainly com, which are targeted at the UK but hosted in the netherlands. I have noticed a very high number of dutch hits to my sites. Lower than UK but takings population into account it works out to be higher. I fear my decision to renew my dutch server instead of going for a UK one is helping me rank in the wrong part of the world. I have paid a couple of months ahead for the dutch server but am wondering if the cost of writing off a couple of hundred pounds will be less than I'm losing due to my location. Should I take the financial hit on the server in the hope that buying a UK one will increase my relevant traffic?

Coral Cdn
I am thinking of implementing coral cdn to my site however I have serious doupts. It says you just add .nyud.net to the end of your urls. Now that is easy but in my read it totally masses up my url structure.How do you think google handles this? Does it handle that at all? I would like to implement a free cdn as for that particular page. Does anybody know any free service good and free? Anybody? Experience?

Worth Changing Redirect From 302 to 301?
Hi, I'm doing an audit on a site that had a redesign in Dec 2009. For some reason I looked to see what kind of redirects were used from the old pages to the current ones, and it looks like they used 302s, which obviously isn't ideal. Given that it's been so long and those pages have looong since been de-indexed, is it worth me suggesting that they change those old redirects to 301s? My thinking is that if those old pages were linked to externally then I should recommend it, but I can't find any link info on Linkscape/OSE, Majestic SEO or YSE. Any comments appreciated.
