Value of Link Redirect from Google News

Some sites are linking to us with the URL from Google News instead of using a direct link.
For example:
Does this pass the same value as a normal link? I asked the publisher to replace the link with a normal link but they pushed back saying that the news URL is better.

I don't believe it will do you any good at all.
The google link is better for them because they are linking to google, not to you.
Google News uses a 302 redirect
But there is good news and bad news too.
The good news is that the link should always work
The bad news is that eventually, it redirects to an internal google page with a link on it, that tells the reader you are an external site and they have to click that link to get to your story, introducing an extra click
The page says:

If you do not want to visit that page, you can return to the previous page. <- this is a link to google
(if the readers put the URL directly into their browser, it is a link to that redirect page)

In Google search console all of sudden a lot of backlinks have disappear at "Link To Your Site"
Hi after update in Google search console yesterday a lot of backlinks in "Link To Your Site" have disappear, before we had 43x domains now we have 12x domains linking to the site. I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
