Old Incoming Links Redirected to new pages are not Being Factored on the Open Site Explorer
-
Hi,
My website has been online since 1994. We have old links pointing to pages that no longer exist so what we have done is to create redirects to the specific page where the content is being displayed now.
However, when we use the Open Site Explorer, the linking root domains do not show those sites that contain old links pointing to our domain. One good example of this one is: dmoz.org.
Am I improperly handling the redirects? Or, what do I have to do so that old links that are being redirected to the new pages where the information is are accounted when calculating domain authority and trust?
Thanks,
Alex

I landed at the same place: unable to record all the legacy links being directed through my redirects, while definitely benefiting from them.

Hi Alex,
The fact that the links dont show in open explorer is nothing to worry about. For years using the link: command in search engines has not shown links pointing to pages that are being redirected, I assume its the same with this tool.
You can use a tool like this: http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/ to check whether your 301's are set up correctly. If they are, then any link weight that would be passed, will be.

Fresh Web Explorer explorer doesnt seem to work properly
How do I get Fresh Web Explorer explorer to work properly. The feedback I’m getting shows that my brand, Health 2000 had over 4000 mentions on Monday the 13th of January. However when I check out the links that supposedly mention our brand, they bring up general terms related to Health and make no reference to our brand. How can I refine this?

OK I'll try again.... Linking root domains and external links
I'm new to the crawl test tool, I think I know what is meant by external links and linking root domains but I need to check. If there are 500 external links and 50 linking root domains does that suggest the essentially those 500 links are coming from 50 root domains? If yes, then what would 1000 linking root domains and 100 links mean? Or am I completely wrong in my assumptions and if so, can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you.

Competitive .edu Research via Open Site Explorer
I was using open site explorer and trying to figure out how my competitors are getting so many .edu links. Now I won't mention any names here but I am trying to figure out why almost all their links point to downloads of documents. Why would PA be 1 (0 links from 0 root domains) if it's linked to internally?
Question just about said it all: I've seen a number of pages on sites that have a PA of 1 (with the metrics being 0 links from 0 root domains) when I can see on the site that it is linked to internally - from the main nav (which is CSS, not Javascript) and also from the footer, if not other places. Why would this be? Update: upon looking further at the site, it appears that there's some kind of redirect going on, where the page linked to from the nav actually redirects to the real page. Would that eliminate PA, even if it's a 301? And additionally, is whatever is causing this lack of PA a reflection of how Google would relate to the page? Thanks, Aviva
