Schema.org microformatting - itemprop within href tag?

I'm trying to implement microformatting on the site, specifically for the cities where we are active. I'm hoping this will help us rank in local search. This is what I have been doing:
op="addressLocality">City Name
In Google's Rich Snippets Testing Tool, that yields this:
addresslocality = City Name
However, I've also done this:
In Google's tool, that gave me this:
addresslocality
text = City Name
href = http://www.domain.com/webpageSo which is better?

I've read schema.org quite a bit, and I know that microformats are really meant to be used on individual pages, but I didn't know it was considered inappropriate to use them on internal links. I'll rethink this. Thanks!

Rich Snippet Markup should be implemented on the page containing the information not on links pointing to the pages.
Difficult to really advise on which approach would be best because from what I can gather, it doesn't sound like you're implementing the markup correctly.
Better to mark up the content on the location pages themselves with the address, locality, city/town etc as per my example above.
Might be worth reading up on exactly how Schema data works.

Yes, we have individual pages based on location. I want internal links to those pages to carry microformatting. I put the itemprop attribute within a tag, which seems to work fine, but putting the itemprop within an <a>tag seems to apply to both the text (i.e. the city name) and the URL of the page. I'm wondering if the second approach is better. </a>

What are you trying to achieve? Do you have a page per location on your webstite and on each, this is where you're implementing geo/location based schema?
Which is better depends on its purpose, schema markup is intended to provide as much information to search engines as possible, anything of relevance to a website's products or services.
It is likely what you're after is the organisation markup, this can also appear in Google Places listings too. Look at the Microdata link at the bottom of that page and implement what is relevant to your website from there.
Currently rich snippet markup won't have a direct influence on rankings, however the correct implementation will make results from your website appear more prominent in search results.
It would be worth looking over the specification for Schema's organisation / local business markup too so you can see what is available to you.
Something such as the following should be relevant to what you are trying to achieve...
Business Name
Address Line 1
Address Line 2
City / Town
County / State
Post / Zip Code
777 888 999
Anything that you require testing to see if it is implemented correctly and will appear in the search results as you intend can be done with Google's Rich Snippet Testing Tool or this Microdata Tool.

Nofollow versus data-href
We have a couple of Tier-1 websites that contain a lot of affiliate links. These outgoing affiliate links currently have the rel="nofollow" element. Yet, I am seeing a lot of other websites and competitors, use data-href="" instead of nofollow. Is the latter better for SEO purposes or are they just using data-href for better tracking?

XHTML tag syntax for rel=alternate hreflang

My dev team is saying the first can be implemented (technical issue on their end), even though second is preferable, according to support.google.com, in the below two sitemap hreflang notations. Which Version Url to Use for Canonical Tags and in General for Homepage.
I want to put canonical tags on the homepage of a site. cant figure out the version of URL of the homepage should be with a / at the end or without the / ( www.example.com of www.example.com/ ) if I put into the google the URL with / I get the URL without the / in my browser, and it isn't showing as a redirect in my moz extension or other tools. But when I copy the URL from browser and paste elsewhere it pastes with a / I have two questions 1 - in general how does it work with URLs of homepages - I see this happening with lots of sites? 2 - which URL should I set as the canonical version of my homepage? Should I use a canonical tag or 301 with Wordpress posts?
Hi all, I'm trying to determine if canonical or 301 is a better way of handling an issue on my site. The Background I've got a Wordpress website where pages are in-depth reference articles and the posts are for short news blurbs. When I produce a new resource page, I also make a short post telling readers about the new resource. I use Yoast's Wordpress SEO plug in. Sometimes, Google will rank the 200 word post higher than the 2000 word resource page. I suspect that is because of the order in which they were crawled by Google, but I do not know for sure. The Question To make sure that the resource page is seen as the most important location on the site for the topic, should I use the canonical section in the Yoast plugin on the post to point to the page? Or should I wait, and after a few days (when the news blurb is off of the first page) just 301 the post to the page? Are there any link juice considerations when using the canonical option? Implementing Cannonical & Alternate tags on a large website
Hi There, Our brochureware website consists of a Desktop site (www.oursite.com)and a Mobile website (m.oursite.com). I know I need to implement the alternate tags on the desktop pages and the cannonical tags on the mobile versions. However we have a huge site is there any dynamic way through javascript to have the code be generated or is it something that should be done manually page by page? Using Schema.org: Product or Event as the schema type?
Hello, Most of you heard from the launch of the new format for microdata: Schema.org and my question is about the different types of Schema they provide. Our websites provide an overview of courses, visitors can search/filter training courses and most important: read peer reviews. Until now we formatted (the source) of those courses with the schema type "Product" because it allows us to provide search engines with metadata about reviews via the "Aggregrated Rating". Recently we updated the information about courses, to also provide start dates and locations to users, just like the schema type for: "Events". Because we would like to provide search engines also with both types of data I would like to know your opinion. Schema.org looks like not to support the Aggregated Rating for Events and vice versa for Startdates/Locations for the Product type. And combining the two Schema types also does not looks like an option because we can't put them on the same level like it should be. So what would you recommend to use for kind of schema type(s), are we able to use the 'Product' type next to the 'Event' type and so to combine them? Thanks a lot!
