Rebuilding an old website
-
Since we have a strong website; meaning high traffic, but we got 2 issues
1. the framework of the design is not user friendly.
2. the current platform is really old; therefor it comes up with technical problems daily/
We are worried about our links which will affect in our new design, what would be wise to do?
Thanks

Sometimes you just have to upgrade your platform. When this happens, it's also sometimes a good time to change your URL structure - especially if your old URLs were long, ugly, full of parameters, and in general bad for click-throughs.
As Ben said, if it makes sense to keep your old URL structure (and it's technically possible) this is your best bet. Barring that, moving everything via 301 redirects is not unsimilar to an entire site migration across domains, although it is simpler.
Keep in mind there is some lose of "link juice" through a 301 redirect. I can't give you a precise number, but most SEOs believe it's about 80%.
With this in mind, it's important to build new links after a large URL structural change, and make sure your internal link architecture is solid.
One piece of advice. I would make sure to maintain 2 xml sitemaps. One containing the old URLs, and the second containing the new URLs. Submit both to Google via Webmaster Tools. This way, Google will still try to crawl the old URLs and process the 301, dropping the old page from the index faster. Without this step, Google may keep both pages in its index and ding you for duplicate content.
The process may take a couple of months for Google to index all the new URLs and deindex all the old ones. When this happens, make sure to remove the old sitemap. For more tips, you might find some value in these site migration guides.

I agree with Ben - move it to a different platform that's in harmony with your workflow and tighten up the loose ends. If it's breaking daily then that seems to suggest your output code may not be working to its best potential. Once you clean up the design and make it easier for your visitors you should see some traffic results too. People stay longer on sites that are simple to navigate.
Do you have someone to handle the upgrade duties?
Happy spring cleaning!

If the URLs are friendly then you could try and rebuild everything but keep the important URLs static.
Failing that you can migrate the pages onto new URLs by using 301 redirects. Doing this shouldn't have too much of an adverse affect on your rankings (not in the long term anyway) and also means you can swap to nice looking URLs.
Alternatively if you want to swap over to a new domain then you can use 301 redirects and the change domain option in Google webmaster tools.
If you're changing the site architecture - say for example because you're editing the main navigation - you will want to make sure that you prioritize your important pages but that's really just SEO 101 and probably similar to what you have in place anyway.
Hope that helps but feel free to ask if you want clarity on something.

Some Old date showing in SERP
I see some old date Jan 21 2013 showing up for some categories in Google search results. These are category pages and I do not see the date in view source. This is not a wordpress site or a blog page. We keep changing this page by removing/adding items so it is not outdated.

SEO trending down after adding content to website
Hi
Technical SEO | | swat1827
Looking for some guidance. I added about 14 pages of unique content and did all of the on page SEO work using Yoast - have 'good' status on all of them some of the website architecture was changed - mainly on one page. That being said, we got a significant bump the day I implemented, however every day thereafter we have had very bad results. Worse than we had before for about 3 days now. I did resubmit the updated sitemap to GWT and I'm showing no crawl errors. Also, curious if my Robots.txt file could be the issue. All it contains is User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/ Any insight or advise is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your time0 -

Including videos on an eCommerce website.
Hi,
Technical SEO | | ChrisHolgate
We're about to start integrating video content on our eCommerece site in order to bolster the quantity and diversity of useful content that each page presents a potential customer. We’re talking product reviews, information relating to the differences between different products and company information. From an SEO perspective it has been suggested that Google will like this however I have a question regarding the actual method of integration. Usually I would just insert some embed code linking to the correct video on our YouTube channel however I’m really conscious that a search engine will just see the embed code, notice the page loads slightly slower and not really gain anything useful from the video file. I’m assuming that this isn’t the case but I have several questions: - Would you host on YouTube and simply insert the embed code in to the page. Would any alternative site (or even self-hosted) be preferable? - Should I be padding out either side of the embed code with a description of the video and an annotation on OUR site? - Does Google actually look at the link and ascertain the relevance of the video file to the actual page? If it does this does it gain anything useful that could help on-page SEO? These are probably all pretty basic questions for which I do apologise but I want to make sure that before spending a sizable amount of time on this that we start off with a correct integration! Many thanks0 -
Links to Website Author
I'm a website developer, and in the past I have usually added a tiny backlink to the footer of my clients' websites like this: Website Design by MyCompanyName I understand that Google sees this as a low-quality backlink. However, I was wondering if such links can hurt my rankings. Does Penguin sees these links as spam? If so, should I add a rel="nofollow" to the links? Is there anything else I should change? I do not want to remove these links completely because they are good for marketing my business. I just want to minimize any negative SEO impact of the links. I appreciate your input. Thanks.

Google website-links changing back and fourth
Thought I might ask you guys if you have ever seen anything similar, 'cause I sure haven't. 🙂 I have a client who stumbled across a problem with his website links. Google change them back and fourth. one day one of the links will be called "iPhone 4 accessories" and some weeks pass and then it changes to " 4 accessories". Weeks pass again and then the iphone is back. First I thought to myself that Google might have expanded the AdWords filter to include website-links.. But then I remembered that they were ordered by the EU courts to size that practice.. so that can't be it. Plus allot of his competition doesn't seem to have the same problem. I have checked everything, the links, title tags, page titles exc.. and I acn't realt find any reason why this should be happening to him and I must admit I have never seen anything similar. Any hints and pointers would be most welcome 🙂
