Duplicate Content / 301 redirect Ariticle issue
-
Hello,
We've got some articles floating around on our site
nlpca(dot)com
like this article:
http://www.nlpca.com/what-is-dynamic-spin-release.html
that's is not linked to from anywhere else. The article exists how it's supposed to be here:
http://www.dynamicspinrelease.com/what-is-dsr/
(our other website)
Would it be safe in eyes of both google's algorithm (as much as you know) and with Panda to just 301 redirect from
http://www.nlpca.com/what-is-dynamic-spin-release.html
to
http://www.dynamicspinrelease.com/what-is-dsr/
or would no-indexing be better?
Thank you!

I don't think it will "weaken" the domain but if it might provide a better experience for users if instead of clicking a link and being 301d they could click a link straight through to the target page.
You can 301 the duplicate pages as well if you like.

Thanks Peter and Ben,
I don't know that we have access to the code in the tag for separate pages in our version of Joomla, but I don't want to leave this duplicate content floating out there. What is your suggestion?
Will a 301 redirect from nlpca to the site with the original articles weaken nlpca(dot)com
-
When you say that it's "not linked to from anywhere else," does that include internal links or just inbound? If it has no internal OR inbound links, then it hardly matters either way. If it gets traffic but has no inbound links, then I'm inclined to agree with Ben - use the canonical tag. That way, the page can "live" on both sites/domains, but only one of them will have search value.
I'm actually looking to take two blogs and consolidate them into one brand new domain, and I think I may use the canonical tag for a couple of months first and then 301-redirect them. In that case, though, it's because I'll eventually shut off the other domains. If there's value to having the page exist (for users) both places, then the canonical is a solid, long-term solution.

If I remove it won't that cause a 404 error?
Shouldn't I 301 redirect it to the nlpca.com home page?
I can't use rel="canonical" because we are in Joomla

If there's a valid reason to have the article on Nipca (as in it adds a benefit to users) then you could use a rel=canonical.
If it's not adding any value for users and is generally a dead page then why bother no-indexing when you could just remove it all together and not have it wasting crawl allowance.

May Faceted Navigation via ajax #parameter cause duplicated content issues?
We are going to implement a faceted navigation for an ecommerce site of about 1000 products.

Faceted navigation is implemented via ajax/javascript which adds to the URL a large number of #parameters.
Faceted pages are canonicalizing to page without any parameters. We do not want google to index any of the faceted pages at this point. Will google include pages with #parameters in their index?
Can I tell google somehow to ignore #parameters and not to index them?
Could this setup cause any SEO problems for us in terms of crawl bandwidth and or link equity?0 -

Multiple 301 redirects and old site content appearing in Google results
I have found that for some Google searches the old version of the site on a completely different domain is appearing on page one of the results, while the newer site is only on page 3. The old site is redirecting to the new site with a 301 redirect, however there is also an additional redirect on the new site to force SSL. Despite this when you view the Google cache of the result that appears in Google the content of the page is still the old site. Is this normal or is Google not following the chain of 301 redirects? Edit: I just found out that downloading the page by right clicking a link and clicking download rather than viewing it in a browser leads to the old site appearing and the 301 redirect not being followed.

Too many 301 redirects?
Hey, My company currently has one chief website with about 500-600 other domains that all feature the same material as the chief website. These domains have been around for about 5 years and have actually picked up some link traffic. I have all of these identical web-pages utilizing rel=canonical but I was wondering if I would be better served, from SEO purposes, to 301 redirect all of these sites to their respective pages on our chief website? If I add 500 301 redirects, will the major search engines consider this to be black-hat link-building even though the sites are related and technically already feature the same content? For an example, the chief website is www.1099pro.com and I would 301 redirect the below sites to the chief site: 1099softwarepro.com 1099softwarepro.info 1099softwarepro.net 1099softwarepro.biz 1099softwareprofessionals.com 1099softwareprofessionals.info ...you get the point

Duplicate content for hotel websites - the usual nightmare? is there any solution other than producing unique content?
Hiya Mozzers I often work for hotels. A common scenario is the hotel / resort has worked with their Property Management System to distribute their booking availability around the web... to third party booking sites - with the inventory goes duplicate page descriptions sent to these "partner" websites. I was just checking duplication on a room description - 20 loads of duplicate descriptions for that page alone - there are 200 rooms - so I'm probably looking at 4,000 loads of duplicate content that need rewriting to prevent duplicate content penalties, which will cost a huge amount of money. Is there any other solution? Perhaps ask booking sites to block relevant pages from search engines?

I have the website http://www.hotelelgreco.gr and every image in image library http://www.hotelelgreco.gr/image-library.aspx has a different url but is considered duplicate with others of the library. Please suggest me what should i do.

301 or 302 - www.yoursite.com/uk/content
If your website CMS forces you to redirect from the homepage should it be a 301 or 302 Example includes www.direct.gov.uk which 302's it My view is that it should be a 302 in this instance and almost all others should be a 301 - the reason for this is that you want the www.direct.gov.uk to be the "primary" and one that is displayed in Google, whereas for anything else you want the URL of the location. Yes I know that ideally you don't have any redirection at all...

Accepting RSS feeds. Does it = duplicate content?
Hi everyone, for a few years now I've allowed school clients to pipe their news RSS feed to their public accounts on my site. The result is a daily display of the most recent news happening on their campuses that my site visitors can browse. We don't republish the entire news item; just the headline, and the first 150 characters of their article along with a Read more link for folks to click if they want the full story over on the school's site. Each item has it's own permanent URL on my site. I'm wondering if this is a wise practice. Does this fall into the territory of duplicate content even though we're essentially providing a teaser for the school? What do you think?
