SEOmoz Dashboard Report: Crawl Diagnostic Summary
-
Hi there,
I'm noticing that the total errors for our website has been going up and down drastically almost every other week. 4 weeks ago there were over 10,000 errors. 2 weeks ago there were barely 1,000 errors. Today I'm noticing it's back to over 12,000 errors. It says the majority of the errors are from duplicate page content & page title. We haven't made any changes to the titles or the content.
Some insight and explanation for this would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gemma

If it's isolated to just SEOmoz, I would recommend using the SEOmoz help system (link in upper right) and submitting a ticket. Provide some detail so they know what to look into. Because it doesn't come across as being anything other than a bug or who knows what. It shouldn't fluctuate, as far as I can figure.

Thanks for your reply Alan.
I've cross-checked with GWT and it looks like it might be a false alarm. The errors look steady on GWT.
So what could be the reason(s) that SEOmoz's error stats seem so volatile? What could be causing the issue?
I'd love your insight on it.
Thanks,
Gemma

Gemma,
There could be serveral issues causing this. It's why I always cross-reference error counts with what Google Webmaster Tools reports. If both GWT and the Moz reports line up within a ballpark range, I'd definitely suggest looking into it, and if they don't and GWT reports a much lower volume consistently over time, you will have saved a lot of time, grief and energy. So start with that.

Is SEOmoz spider ignoring my redirect?
My client was previously serving their website from both a .co.uk and a .com domain. The DNS for each of these domains was pointing to the same place, rather than redirecting. I saw this as a potential duplicate content problem so I set the .co.uk to 301 redirect on to the .com. As a user, the 301 seems to be working correctly. However, now that I have done this, SEOmoz is picking up thousands of "inbound" links from the .co.uk domain. Essentially, every single link on the internal site, is being duplicated in my stats as an inbound link as well. It appears that the spider is ignoring the redirect. I'm not sure if it's a legitimate issue that will upset Google too, or if it's just a bug with SEOMoz's spider.

Crawl Diagnostics - unexpected results
I received my first Crawl Diagnostics report last night on my dynamic ecommerce site. It showed errors on generated URLs which simply are not produced anywhere when running on my live site. Only when running on my local development server. It appears that the Crawler doesn't think that it's running on the live site. For example http://www.nordichouse.co.uk/candlestick-centrepiece-p-1140.html will go to a Product Not Found page, and therefore Duplicate Content errors are produced. Running http://www.nhlocal.co.uk/candlestick-centrepiece-p-1140.html produces the correct product page and not a Product Not Found page Any thoughts?

Creating a SEO Report
We are looking to create a SEO report that is broken down by keywords. The traffic that the keywords generate for the site, the rankings in the search engines, the number of backlinks that have used the keyword as anchor text. We have a few tools that can do some of this, but are looking to find something that can aggregate all this info into a clean report. We are wondering if anyone knows a good website/application that can help manage a month-to-month report on the aspects above. Thanks!

SEO Moz ranking reports
I am confused. The SEO Moz ranking reports state that my site show show up in a specific position in SERP for a specific keyword yet when I google the keyword the ranking is different. Are these ranking reports merely indicative or are they supposed to be accurate?

How to handle crawl diagnostic errors for the same url. /products & /products/
I have copied on of the errors out of the crawl diagnostics report. Both /products and /products/ are returning an error, and both have pretty good domain authority so I feel like its hurting my site that these show up this way. Both urls create the same page, should I just setup a 301 on the /products with no slash or will that cause more harm... I am using the MODx cms system and that could have something to do with it. | Products | Datalight http://www.datalight.com/products 1 37 5 Products | Datalight http://www.datalight.com/products/ | 1 | 30 | 1 |
