How to resolve Duplicate Content crawl errors for Magento Login Page
-
I am using the Magento shopping cart, and 99% of my duplicate content errors come from the login page. The URL looks like:
Or, the same url but with the long string different from the one above. This link is available at the top of every page in my site, but I have made sure to add "rel=nofollow" as an attribute to the link in every case (it is done easily by modifying the header links template).
Is there something else I should be doing? Do I need to try to add canonical to the login page? If so, does anyone know how to do it using XML?
-
I realize this is a very old post, but we have found the same issue. We added this to our robots file:
Disallow: /customer/account/login/referer/
When the next crawl runs, will these be removed from the 'Crawl Diagnostics' report automatically?
-
OK, I figured out how to add a canonical link to the magento login page. I put this in my local.xml file (/app/design/frontend/<designpackage>/<theme>/layout/local.xml) : </theme></designpackage>
<customer_account_login><reference name="head"><action method="addLinkRel"><rel>canonical</rel><href>http://www.site.com/customer/account/login/</href></action></reference></customer_account_login>
As for whether or not this will get rid of the crawl errors, I won't know until Roger tries again, will report back later.
-
that's an interesting idea, I'm going to post my solution for adding "canonical" to the login page after I test to see if the crawler will stop complaining as a result of that.
-
You should really just add that to your disallow list in your robots.txt file. That's the easiest method.
<code>User-agent: * Disallow: /customer/</code>

Moz crawl duplicate pages issues
Hi According to the moz crawl on my website I have in the region of 800 pages which are considered internal duplicates. I'm a little puzzled by this, even more so as some of the pages it lists as being duplicate of another are not. For example, the moz crawler considers page B to be a duplicate of page A in the urls below: Not sure on the live link policy so ive put a space in the urls to 'unlive' them. Page A http:// nuchic.co.uk/index.php/jeans/straight-jeans.html?manufacturer=3751 Page B http:// nuchic.co.uk/index.php/catalog/category/view/s/accessories/id/92/?cat=97&manufacturer=3603 One is a filter page for Curvety Jeans and the other a filter page for Charles Clinkard Accessories. The page titles are different, the page content is different so Ive no idea why these would be considered duplicate. Thin maybe, but not duplicate. Like wise, pages B and C are considered a duplicate of page A in the following Page A http:// nuchic.co.uk/index.php/bags.html?dir=desc&manufacturer=4050&order=price Page B http:// nuchic.co.uk/index.php/catalog/category/view/s/purses/id/98/?manufacturer=4001 Page C http:// nuchic.co.uk/index.php/coats/waistcoats.html?manufacturer=4053 Again, these are product filter pages which the crawler would have found using the site filtering system, but, again, I cannot find what makes pages B and C a duplicate of A. Page A is a filtered result for Great Plains Bags (filtered from the general bags collection). Page B is the filtered results for Chic Look Purses from the Purses section and Page C is the filtered results for Apricot Waistcoats from the Waistcoat section. I'm keen to fix the duplicate content errors on the site before it goes properly live at the end of this month - that's why anyone kind enough to check the links will see a few design issues with the site - however in order to fix the problem I first need to work out what it is and I can't in this case. Can anyone else see how these pages could be considered a duplicate of each other please? Checking ive not gone mad!! Thanks, Carl

How to know exactly which page links to a 404 page on my website?
Hi Moz users, Sometimes I get 404 crawl errors using Moz Pro and when my website has a few dozen pages it is hard for me to find the original page that links to a 404 page. Is there a way to find this automatically using Moz or do I have to look for it manually? I just need to find the original link and delete it to fix my 404 issue. Please let me know thank you for you help. -Marc

Blog Page URLs Showing Duplicate Content
On the SEOMoz Crawl Diagnostics, we are receiving information that we have duplicate page content for the URL Blog pages. For Example: blog/page/33/ blog/page/34/ blog/page/35/ blog/page/36/ These are older post in our blog. Moz is saying that these are duplicate content. What is the best way to fix the URL structure of the pages?

Open Site Explorer is showing "No Data" for my page titles under the "Top Pages" Tab
This is for my site: www.kibin.com/ Does this mean there is something wrong with how we're titling our pages? We're working on our on-page SEO, titles, meta descriptions this week and getting them up to snuff. I don't understand what is going on here or if it's something to be worried about. Thanks!

Why does SEOMoz think I have duplicate content?
The SEOmoz crawl report shows me a large amount of duplicate content sites. Our site is built on a CMS that creates the link we want it to be but also automatically creates it's own longer version of the link (e.g. http://www.federalnational.com/About/tabid/82/Default.aspx and http://www.federalnational.com/about.aspx). We set the site up so that there are automatic redirects for our site. Google Webmaster does not see these pages as duplicate pages. Why does SEOmoz consider them duplicate content? Is there a way to weed this out so that the crawl report becomes more meaningful? Thanks!

The Site Explorer crawl shows errors for files/folders that do not exist.
I'm fairly certain there is ultimately something amiss on our server but the Site Explorer report on my website (www.kpmginstitutes.com) is showing thousands of folders that do not exist. Example: For my "About Us" page (www.kpmginstitutes.com/about-us.aspx), the report shows a link: www.kpmginstitutes.com/rss/industries/404-institute/404-institute/about-us.aspx. We do have "rss", "industries", "404-institute" folders but they are parallel in the architecture, not sequential as indicated in the error url. Has anyone else seen these types of error in your Site Explorer reports?
