Canonical Problem
-
Hello all.
Could someone have a look at my page here www.ashley-wedding-cars.co.uk here and tell me why I have a canonical problem.
-
It looks like you're 301-redirecting you're root site to the "/index.php" version of the page. The problem is that you're linking to the root "/" in the navigation and most of your inbound links are probably to the root. So, you're sending a mixed message about which version is actually canonical. I would stick to the root, personally.
The non-www vs. www issue is also in play, but I think it's a secondary problem.

Hi AshJez , I had visited your website. By observing the website I came to conclude that your website has canonical problem. Firstly I want to tell you about what is Canonical problem. Canonicalization is the process of picking the best url when there are several choices, and it usually refers to home pages. In brief it is www vs. non-www.

I would just like to add that beside above problem, there is also an issue with trailing slashes

Resolve to the same thing, You should add redirect from // version to non-slash version
Kind regards

One problem is that the www and non-www versions of your domain resolve separately. As a best practice, you should pick one to be your primary domain and redirect the other to it. Otherwise, you can end up with duplicate content issues.

Sitemap generator which only includes canonical urls
Does anyone know of a 3rd party sitemap generator that will only include the canonical url's? Creating a sitemap with geo and sorting based parameters isn't the most ideal way to generate sitemaps. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas. Mind you we have hundreds of thousands of indexed url's and this can't be done with a simple text editor.

Problem with SEO for my Image based website.
My website focuses on movie posters. I'm having a little debate on what is the best way to have images linked to. The current image location is stored like this: /movie-name/poster-1.jpg

/movie-name/poster-2.jpg Is it best to leave it like that or change it to : /movie-name/movie-name-poster-1.jpg
/movie-name/movie-name-poster-1.jpg The reason I ask, is that I read today that Google uses the image name to help detect what the image is about. At the same time, if the movie name is the in folder structure, along with the image name... wouldn't it start to look like keyword stuffing?0 -
Magento Base Install 302 from non www to www , problems?
Using our crawl diagnostics report I am seeing a 302 redirect (temporary) from mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com. It is on an installation of magento with no modifications to the htaccess. This seems problematic, should I change to a 301 in .htaccess?

Rel canonical issues on wordpress posts
Our site has 500 rel canonical issues. This is the way i understand the issues. All our blog posts automatically include a rel=canonical to themselves.

Rel=canonical tag on original page?
Afternoon All,

We are using Concrete5 as our CMS system, we are due to change but for the moment we have to play with what we have got. Part of the C5 system allows us to attribute our main page into other categories, via a page alaiser add-on. But what it also does is create several url paths and duplicate pages depending on how many times we take the original page and reference it in other categories. We have tried C5 canonical/SEO add-on's but they all seem to fall short. We have tried to address this issue in the most efficient way possible by using the rel=canonical tag. The only issue is the limitations of our cms system. We add the canonical tag to the original page header and this will automatically place this tag on all the duplicate pages and in turn fix the problem of duplicate content. The only problem is the canonical tag is on the original page as well, but it is referencing itself, effectively creating a tagging circle. Does anyone foresee a problem with the canonical tag being on the original page but in turn referencing itself? What we have done is try to simplify our duplicate content issues. We have over 2500 duplicate page issues because of this aliasing add-on and want to automate the canonical tag addition, rather than go to each individual page and manually add this tag, so the original reference page can remain the original. We have implemented this tag on one page at the moment with 9 duplicate pages/url's and are monitoring, but was curious if people had experienced this before or had any thoughts?0 -
Canonical Meta Tag
Can someone explain how this works and how necessary is it? For example, I have a new client, who is ranking WITHOUT the www in their domain, but they have a good deal of backlinks already that have www in it. When I set up google webmaster tools I made 2, one for WWW and one for WITHOUT and there are diffenet numbers of backlinks for each. I have no idea what do about this or if I should even do anything. Thanks

Canonical Tags & Search Bots
Does anyone know for sure if search engine bots still crawl links on a page whose canonical tags are set to a different page? So in short, would it be similar to a no-index follow? Thanks! -Margarita
