Am I jumping the gun? Second guessing myself...
-
Hi,
I'm pretty new to SEO and I'm trying to figure out if I'm on the right track.
Mid May I rebuilt a website completely from .asp to .php, the original site was completely makeshift and had some really un-pretty code in it, not to mention the design was completely out of date.
Since I rebuilt it the search has slowed and then picked up a little now it's slowed to almost a stop. I know it hasn't been that long, but am I doing something wrong? I know the think i'm missing most is link-building which we are working on now, but is there something else I'm missing to make the search drop like this this past week? I feel like it's soo much better then before but I'm not seeing any results and now I'm really second guessing myself?
Any suggestions? please help!
the site: http://www.moondoggieinc.com
THANKS! KristyO

Thank you so much!
Working on fixing the page titles, they are 1/2 and 1/2 that way.
Is this the correct code to put in my .htaccess file to direct the .asp to .php pages?
RedirectMatch 301 (.*).asp$http://www.example.com$1.php
and then add in single redirects to the landing pages that don't have the same name?
THANKS!!!! KristyO

Hi Kristy,
It looks like you didn't 301 redirect the old site pages to your new site - I did a Google search, and the old asp pages return 404 (not found) errors when clicked on. This would certainly help explain your significant dropoff. Google doesn't know that your old pages have been migrated to new ones. In a very simplified way to describe this situation, you've starting from scratch - especially if the old site had link presence.
Also, I would recommend, in your titles, including your site name AFTER the page keywords.
For example, rather than:
Moondoggie Dog Boutique - Dog Outerwear
use
Dog Outerwear - Moondoggie Dog Boutique
I'm not sure whether you've installed Google Webmaster Tools - but it would help you immensely in this case
If you'd like some assistance with the redirection, you might want to briefly contract someone. A few hours should be all it would take. Fixing the redirection error might not be the solution to all your woes, but right now it's definitely a massive problem.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi,
Just a quick note, the images on the left are not loading, they are referencing your hard drive.
[file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/kristyoconnor/Documents/SITE%](file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/kristyoconnor/Documents/SITE%)
Just go to the site online, right click properties and you will see which ones are not showing up.

Crediting a second website when I have 2 setup depending on location
Hello Moz Community! I'm a bit stuck with this one and have read a few varying answers! Basically I have an eCommerce website on a .com domain name selling to the UK and Europe currently. I have recently created a very similar selling the same products but solely to the US with a .US domain name. What is the best practice with this, will the 2 separate sites be okay left as they are, or do I need to credit the UK site from the US site as they are incredibly similar? The sites are: www.rhinox-group.com www.rhinox-group.us Thanks in advance!

Moving to a new domain for second time - critical, help needed fast!
Hello, Important: please do not ask why we need to change the domain, its not the matter at all, thank you for understanding. Over a month ago we successfully changed our domain name, 301 redirected, did GWT 'change of address' and all. The old domain was 2 years old, ranking very well, the new domain change of address was a success and traffic back on the new domain after a week. Today we need to change the domain name again, unfortunately, for some reasons, we have to, however we are not sure what to do in GWT, when I went to 'change of address' in the domain (the new first domain), i saw the following message (screenshot attached too): This site is undergoing a move Old URL | New URL If any URL on the left should not be moved, you can withdraw its move request. To do this, click the URL and then Withdraw. Now our questions: 1. For second time moving to a new domain, we should move from the old first domain (301 from the first old domain) or from the second domain (301 from the second domain)? 2. If from the old first domain, should we Withdraw from the first domain (lift up the first change of address in GWT) and then redirect the old first domain to the second new domain (the one we want to move now)? If yes, what to do with the first new domain (the one which we moved to a month ago) 3. If we should move from the first new domain, then what to do? The situation is clear but confusing what to do? It's just that we need to change the domain name again, move to a new one, for the second time, now we should redirect from the first old domain or first new domain? I purchased MOZ just to get help from you guys here, the only place i thought I could be helped. Of course gonna use Moz service too now that i have puurchased it 🙂 Awaiting your quick help guys. Jump to Navigation in SERPs?
To make 'jump to' navigation work, does the href or anchor need to contain descriptive text? For example, I know this is best: Install with Wubi But, would the below work just as well? Install with Wubi

Disavow first (and link removal outreach second) as tactic?
I need to remove/disavow hundreds of domains due to an algorithmic penalty. Has anyone disavowed first and done the outreach thing second as a tactic? The reason why I was considering this was as follows: Most of the websites are from spammy websites and unlikely to have monitored accounts/available contact details. My business is incredibly seasonal, only being easily profitable for half of the year. The season starts from next month so the window of opportunity to get it done is small. If there's a Penguin update before I get it done, then it could be very bad news. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. (Incidentally, if you are interested in, I also posted here about it: http://moz.com/community/q/honest-thoughts-needed-about-link-building-removal)

Pages that takes more then 1,5 second to load penalized?
Hi all I just read an article (print) about the importance of af having a fast website. The author claims that all pages that are taking longer than 1,5 second to load is getting penalized in the SERPS. Speed is of course a ranking factor. But I have never heard a statement like this before. Is 1,5 second a guideline from Google? Can anyone say, where this number is coming from? Is there maybe another guideline to be followed? Thanks in advance for your comments / answers 🙂 Best regards, Kenneth Karl Nielsen

Leveraging a second valuable domain, which has no content currently.
Hello All, Wow, people answer very quickly, concisely and are well informed. Very impressive. I have a question that may be a little different. I have a current site which ranks well, and has lots of links etc etc.. 1. http://www.symbolphot*.com ** * replace the * with an o**. Key search term for this site: "B*ston Wedding Photographer" The second site i own: 2. B*stonWeddingPhotographer.com is currently empty. I can do whatever i want with this site. I was thinking that since my site is mostly images, i could start a duplicate wordpress blog with the same images, but different page text and alt tags to the same images. Obviously, since 'b*ston wedding photographer" is the phrase i want to rank #1 for, how should i go about leveraging the power of the URL? Do you have alternate suggestions beyond duplicating image content? I don't really see a way around that as it's ultimately the images i'm selling to potential clients. And the last part of my question is, how strong are my chances of ranking #1 for "Bston Wedding Photographer" while publishing good content on Bstonweddingphotographer.com ?

Google Filter? Drop from top first page to bottom second page?
My site has dropped from the first page top spots to the bottom second page, about 2 month ago. From time to time it reappears in the first page, is this some kind of google filter? How do I solve this issue?
