How to report rankings after the Google Venice update?
-
As a profesional agency we focus on traffic and conversions, but rankings are still a good KPI to please customers. Unfortunately rankings are not reliable anymore sinds the Google Venice update.
My question is;
"How can you still report about rankings, but without the risk that your customer sees total different results?"
Software we use
At the moment we use Rank Tracker from Link Assistant.

Hi David,
Thanks for your fast reply on my question!
We noticed that Venice is overruling depersonalisation search. Even if our customers use &pws=0 or incognito mode they sill get local results. This is not only annoying for our customers, but also for us as SEO professionals.
How can we tackle this problem?

Hi Van,
Unfortunately it's near on impossible to obtain a ranking position that will show universally for yourselves, your clients and their customers.
The best option you have is spending the time getting your customers to truly understand personalised and localised search, as well as the various methods of turning personalisation off. Once they understand this, they will be on board with the fact that the results they see will differ nationally/globally.
I work with a large number of clients on this basis, and they are happy with the logic. The know they can turn personalisation off (to an extent) using '&pws=0' or incognito mode, and to be honest these methods usually match pretty spot on with the rank tracking I'm providing them (probably because the rank checkers obtaining the results using these de-personalised methods)
Person A is always going to see different results than Person B, but if your clients can understand that the rankings reports are providing the positions the majority will see, then they should be happy.
As you mentioned, the main metrics should always be visitors and sales, but tying these to rankings is always a great way of showing the ROI of their natural search efforts.
Best of luck.
David

Are large property portals going to continue to dominate Google's search results?
We are having a discussion (potential argument) in our office around whether large portals (namely property portals) have longevity in Google's search. Argument 1:
Industry News | | NeilPursey
Google's rise in local search and rewarding strong brand names rather than keyword driven domain names will devalue property portals with keyword rich domain names. Property portals are essentially duplicating content on smaller individually owned property websites, therefore in time Google will devalue property portals. **Argument 2: **
Property portals have more property stock listed on their websites so therefore Google will reward them by ranking these websites higher than the smaller real estate agencies with niche stock in their areas that they operate in. The property portals that already are already in a dominate position already carry authority and their own sense of branding, therefore it's difficult for Google to ignore them. If we assume that Google is looking into user behaviour as a ranking factor, then this will help portals as they have more stock which means higher engagement on the website. I'd love to read the moz community thoughts and opinions on this. I reckon it's a worthy debate..0 -
Now that Google is no longer publicly displaying Page Rank updates, how will this effect Moz's ability to calculate DA and PA?
Hi, How much more important do you guys think that Moz's Page Authority and Domain Authority metrics are going to become now that Google has stopped giving people public access to a site or pages Page Rank? And how accurate is PA and DA as a measurement in comparison to Page Rank..so for example if I was seeking a guestposting opportunity and saw a site as having a PR of 4....if I now looked to Moz's Page and Domain Authority metrics instead...would that still give me equivalent information on the strength of that domain and thus make a judgement on whether it will be a worthy site for a guestpost.. I guess what I am asking is, how close is now looking at Moz's metrics (ie. a third party company) to the info on PageRank that was being updated by Google themselves? Also will the lack of updated public PR info from Google effect the ability for Moz to calculate PA and DA?? Look forward to your replies on this,

Any Information on Panda Update #21?
A site we've been working on and doing well with (relatively new) got hit pretty hard on November 4th and 5th. Since then, traffic is down considerably and we're trying to diagnose what specific triggers may have caused such a change.
