Should I Re-Direct Based Upon IP
-
I am working on an e-commerce store. There are 4 subdomains for 4 seperate languages. ie uk.business.com, fr.business.com etc
The client is asking that any French speaker (French IP address) is only shown the FR subdomain and so on for all languages.
Is this the best way of doing things, or am I better off without the re-direct.

Thanks Matt.
I've come to the same conclusion - to be honest, it's pretty obvious when you get your head around it. My problem is an incredibly difficult client (who doesn't speak English well) muddying the waters so much - it's nice to hear thoughts by someone who has a much clearer head than I have.
I can't do anything about the sub domains now but I agree folder are a nicer solution: That's another story though.
I'm pushing for a javascript based language pop up option based on non-matching IP's to the current sub domain.
I could talk about this one for hours - I can feel the grey hair forming every day with this project!
Cheers Matt.

Hi Alex,
This is a good question - if I were you I would look at this whiteboard friday as it gives you insights into all your options for this scenario.
Also don't miss the next to last paragraph on redirection, which I personally avoided when I was in a similar situation to you, due to potential mix-ups. I chose the ccTLD path at the time, though I would heavily consider the subfolder option if presented with this challenge again...

Hope this helps...

Link backs from same IP? Can it hurt?
We host several client sites on our VPS host. We'd like to add a link back to the footer, however cautious as these are all on the same IP. Will this hurt our SEO?

Will Google recognize a canonical to a re-directed URL works?
A third party canonicalizes to our content, and we've recently needed to re-direct that content to a new URL. The third party is going to take some time updating their canonicals, and I am wondering if search engines will still recognize the canonical even though there is a re-direct in place?

Why would our server return a 301 status code when Googlebot visits from one IP, but a 200 from a different IP?
I have begun a daily process of analyzing a site's Web server log files and have noticed something that seems odd. There are several IP addresses from which Googlebot crawls that our server returns a 301 status code for every request, consistently, day after day. In nearly all cases, these are not URLs that should 301. When Googlebot visits from other IP addresses, the exact same pages are returned with a 200 status code. Is this normal? If so, why? If not, why not? I am concerned that our server returning an inaccurate status code is interfering with the site being effectively crawled as quickly and as often as it might be if this weren't happening. Thanks guys!

Google images directing to Escaped Fragment instead of #!
Our indexed images in Google images are directing to:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | CBuy
http://www.cbuy.tv/?escaped_fragment= for example, instead of: the http://www.cbuy.tv/#! version. Is there something we can do on our end to fix this or is this a bug with Google?0 -
Are there advantages of switching Websites to a private IP from an IP shared on a Webserver?
I just did a reverse IP Lookup for both my sites and noticed they were on shared WebServers with 370 and 719 domains respectively. A few domains hosted on each IP looked very suspicious too. Is there an advantage of switching my websites to a private IP from an IP shared on a Webserver?

When is it worth re-structuring your site?
I recently started working on a site that is 8 years old and the currently URLs/ site structure is not SEO friendly. We are concerned that in re-structuring the site, we may loose our rankings. Has anyone ever completely re-structured their site? Was it worth it?
