SEO impact of adding a forum module to a site
-
I help maintain a site and the owners want to start a forum for their club members. This is a site that runs on Joomla, so it's likely we'll use some form of a Joomla module to add the forum functionality.
My main question is whether there is anything to be concerned about for SEO purposes when adding the forum. I've never set one up, so I don't know the best practices for forums/discussion boards (although I'm scouring the web for general info).
- Should it be a subdomain or on the main domain -- or does this not matter?
- Are there any general setup processes that I should pay attention to for SEO best-practices?
This question was mainly about the SEO impact, but if anyone can point me in the direction of forum best practice info as well, It would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Thanks Maurizio,
I'm wondering the same thing that John asked -- what would make me decide to do it one way or another. I was just having a conversation with a coworker, and we were thinking maybe for our purpose we'd go www.forum.yourdomain.com -- for this reason:
The forum will be about 1 type of racecar, whereas the company is a racetrack that sponsors many types of racing, as well as being a sales point for this one racecar. In this case, I believe the company owner is trying to engage people for that specific vehicle.
The unanswered piece of this for me is whether there is an SEO implication one way or another. From what I understand, forums usually use nofollow on links, which means the forums.yourdomain.com doesn't really help the core company site -- other than potentially sending people there via topical interest and mentions by members (so it's a marketing play). To your point, if the forum is www.yourdomain.com/forum, then the content actually belongs to your site -- so ....... hmmmm. I'm still torn. Hopefully I'll get more input.
Thanks for feedback. It's helpful to hear what others are doing.
Cheers!
Kristy

I have read a number of times tha it would be better for SEO to have forum.yourdomain.com
Can you tell us why you think it is better to have www.yourdomain.com/forum as I am also about to launch a forum
Thanks Maurizo

For the site is only good to have more content and i think is better to have:
www.yourdomain.com/forum
than
www.forum.yourdomain.comThere many forum module for joomla there are any with separated database and other that use the same database of joomla
Ciao
Maurizio

What are the SEO considerations when migrating a whole site from http to https
Hi Mozzers, I'm in the process of migrating a whole site, which has excellent rankings built through ongoing SEO over the years, from http to https. What is the safest way of doing this, while maintaining rankings? I'm assuming 301 redirect of every page from http to https? Thanks!

Mobile site content and main site content
Help, pls! I have one main site and a mobile version of that site (m.domain.com). The main site has more pages, more content, different named urls. The main site has consistently done well in Google. The mobile site has not: the mobile site is buried. I am working on adding more content to the mobile site, but am concerned about duplicate content. Could someone pls tell me the best way to deal with these two versions of our site? I can't use rel=canonical because the urls do not correspond to the same names on the main site, or can I? Does this mean I need to change the url names, offer different content (abridged), etc? I really am at a loss as to how to interpret Google's rules for this. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? Any help or tips would GREATLY appreciated!!!!! Thanks!

Language Selection Splash Page- Impact on SEO
Hi, Our site has a page for new visitors to select their language to view our website So if you type our brand adress (http://www.bdc.ca) you should be redirected to this "splash" page (http://www.bdc.ca/pages/splashpage.aspx). What is the SEO impact of doing this and is there a better way for users to choose their languages, SEO-wise (and UX wise) ? You'll also see that after the visitor select its language, he's redirected to the actual home page using a two 302 redirects ( one to bdc.ca/en/ and then another one to the actual home page). I am aware of this and I know this is really bad. Please share what you think would be the best way to manage this language selection in respect to SEO, but with respect to UX too. Thanks ! Site links in the footer template – still good for SEO?
Hi there, When I did a redesign a few years ago, I had it in my mind that site links in 3 or 4 columns at the bottom of the home page, and every other page, would be good for SEO. Having links to interior pages using keywords and phrases from the home page and all that…. I think this might now be outdated thinking? As long as there are some links from the home page to important interior pages to pass link juice that is what matters? Google might not even looks at links in the footer? Is this correct? Thoughts? Thanks so much!

A client will be translating their entire site into French in addition to English. For SEO purposes, should I host it on the same domain or create its own dedicated domain?
The current site is a long-standing site with good authority and a good number of links. Thanks....
