Easy Fix for 404 Errors foe Newbie
-
Hey there,
I have two errors at these links that to my knowledge do not exist on my domain according to the MOZ.
http://educateathletes.com/post/23804085842/educateathletes-ushl-gm-head-coach-jim
http://educateathletes.com/products
I'm really not sure what to do. The first is an old Tumblr blog post. The second is a page that was created on my site but the URL title was changed to
http://educateathletes.com/enroll
Any advice is appreciated to eliminate this.

Since you're using WordPress, Sean, I can strongly recommend the Redirection plugin. Once it's installed and configured, it will catch things like the URL you changed, and automatically redirect to the new URL you created. (You'll need to do this by hand i the plugin for that particular URL though, as you've already changed it before the plugin could catch it.)
In addition, it provides an easy interface to create redirects for situations like your other one where an incoming link needs to be easily repointed to a different page. It will even inform you right in your WP dashboard when a new 404 error has been discovered and allow you to easily fix/redirect it right there and then.
Far easier than having to dive into your .htaccess file every time you need to make a minor change.
It should be noted though - if you have a huge number of redirects to create, THAT should be done in htaccess as it processes much faster using fewer server resources than a large redirect list in the plugin.

SEO Moz probably missed it because the inbound link is no longer active. Did you pull this error from Google Webmaster Tools? Check the date. It may be a very old error. Either way, implementing a 301 is your best bet.

You could do a 301 redirect in your .htaccess file to route to the page you want: Redirect 301 /oldpage.htm http://www.newpage.com/.

Https and 404 code that goes into htaccess
The 404 error code we put into htaccess files for our websites does not work correctly for our https site. We recently changed one of our http sites to https. When we went to create a 404.html page for it by creating an htaccess folder with the 404 error code in it, once we uploaded the file all of our webpages were displaying incorrectly, as if the css was not attached. The 404 code we used works successfully for our other 404.html pages for our other sites (www.telfordinc.com/404.html). However, it does not work for the https site. Below is the 404 error code we are using for our https site (currently not uploaded until pages display correctly) ErrorDocument 404 /404-error.html RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www.)?privatemoneyhardmoneyloan.com/.*$ [NC] RewriteRule .(gif|jpg|js|css)$ - [F] Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.privatemoneyhardmoneyloan.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.privatemoneyhardmoneyloan.com/$1 [R=301,L] So we want to know if there is a different 404 error code that goes into the htaccess file for an https vs. http? Appreciate your feedback on this issue

"/blogroll" causing 404 error
I'm running a campaign, and the crawling report for my site returned a lot of 4xx errors. When I look at the URLs, they all have a "/blogroll" in the end, like: mysite.com/post-number-1/blogroll mysite.com/post-number-2/blogroll And so on, for pretty much all the pages. The thing is, I removed the blogroll widget completely, so I really wouldn't know what can possibly point to links like that. Is there anything to fix on the site? Thanks

Moz Reporting Incorrect 404's
Hi Guys SEOMoz is telling me that we have 191 404 errors f. I have checked this with several other crawlers and this not the case. For example, http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk/eyecare/corporate-savings.html%0D%0A2027 But correct links its http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk/eyecare/corporate-savings.html which is fine... We have no record of these links so why is it appending these characters at the end of the URL which is causing the 404's....

Proper way to 404 a page on an Ecommerce Website
Hello. I am working on a website that has over 15000 products. When one of these is no longer available - like it's discontinued or something - the page it's on 302s to a 404 page. Example - www.greatdomain.com/awesome-widget Awesome widget is no longer available www. greatdomain.com/awesome-widget 302s to -www.greatdomain.com/404 page. For the most part, these are not worthy of 301s because of lack of page rank/suitable LPs, but is this the correct way to handle them for search engines? I've seen varying opinions. Thanks!

Why is 4XX (Client Error) shown for valid pages?
My Crawl Diagnostics Summary says I have 5,141 errors of the 4XX (Client Error) variety. Yet when I view the list of URLs they all resolve to valid pages. Here is an example.
