Redirecting 404
-
Hi.
I'm working on a wordpress site, which got some old deleted pages indexed and now shows a 404 (also in the results)
As these old pages earlier got content and probably also some links pointing towards it, what would then be best practice to do?
Should i make an 301 redirect?
Make the 404 noindex?

Hi,
First of all if your non-existing site results are being displayed in search results(say Google) then you can either demote the sitelinks by going in to the Google Webmasters Tool(go to Configuration -->> Sitelinks)and submit it.
Or, if in your case, it has some links pointing towards it then you can use a 301 redirect and redirect it to your customised 404 page which should could contain navigational options so the users do not leave the given site. The Web Optimized 404 pages should contain:
- notification that the user has reached a page that does not exist
- a search box
- a easy to understand navigation system so the user can potentially find what they were orginally looking to access
- a link to the home page
If you want to know more, you can check this link on HTTP Status code and see what's best for you

Hi,
Should i make an 301 redirect?
** Only if you can actually redirect using 301 to pages that cover the same or have at least some connection with the old page. Otherwise there won't be too much benefit.
If you are not able to 301 redirect them to new specific pages you could 301 redirect those all to a single page that can act as a topic page - a gateway.
Make the 404 noindex?
** That won't help. if google gets a 404 response code it will treat it as a not found page and it won't index / crawl the page anyway - so google's bot won't see anything on the page anyway including the no index tag.
Cheers.

My homepage redirects to itself?
Hi there - I'm not a SEO so help would be appreciated! Moz is telling me we have a redirect loop but the URLs are the same. https://www.example.com/ to https://www.example.com/ Why is my homepage creating a redirect loop to itself? We use Wordpress and I do not have any redirects listed for our homepage. Could this have something to do with switching to https in April? Thanks, Katherine

Structured Data Mark Up Helper 404?
Whenever I put our URL into markup helper, it returns not found 404.
Technical SEO | | RayflexGroup
I've tried this for different pages, different categories and it all returns the same "not found 404" - I did also trial other websites to see if it was an issue with the markup helper but everything returned fine.
Has anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve?0 -
I have multiple URLs that redirect to the same website. Is this an issue?
I have multiple URLs that all lead to the same website. Years ago they were purchased and were sitting dormant. Currently they are 301 redirects and each of the URLs feed to different areas of my website. Should I be worried about losing authority? And if so, is there a better way to do this?

Redirect chains after a site migration
Hi A clients site was originally canonicalised to the www. from the non www versions Now its migrating to an international config of www.domain.com/uk and www.domain.com/us with the existing pages/urls (such as www.domain.com/pageA) 301'd to the new www.domain.com/uk/pageA for example Will this will create a 301 redirect chain due to the existence of the original canonicalised urls or is the way that works 'catch all' so to speak, and automatically update the canonical 301 redirects of the non www old architexcture url's to the new international architecture URL's ? I presume so but just want to check ? cheers dan

Best Place to Redirect 301 to?
Hey Everyone! I have an old site with hundreds of blog posts that are very spammy (duplicate content, keyword stuffed, and just plain bad content). I am going to redirect them and delete them from WordPress but I'm wondering where is the best place to redirect them to? Home page, other posts, other pages...? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

301 redirects
At the moment it's possible to access the home page of my website via two different urls, with and without www. and you've told me that this can be resolved with Canonicalization and a 301 redirect. Do I do this with my web hosting package or in my html pages? If I can't do it with my web host (1&1) then is there an idiot's guide of how to do it yourself? I've also got both the domain vamospaella.co.uk and vamospaella.com. Is it better to have one of these redirecting to the other for UK traffic (at the moment .co.uk redirects to .com) Thanks
