Time spent downloading a page increased drasticly
-
Hi Guys,
We have found increased "Time spend downloading a page" drastically.
Our website: www.learnenglishindublin.com
Our company is located in Ireland, so we moved our servers from US to Ireland at the beginning of December.
Also before increasing 'Time spend downloading a page" I did:
I have installed plugins JCH Optimize (plugin is optimizing CSS and Javascripts [merging them])
I have installed ScriptsDown - which is moving all scripts to bottom of site.
Pingdom tools shows that site is loading average of 2.7 secs.
Pages are cached.
Gzip is used.
Our SEO rankings dropped from 1 page to 2 page.
We have gone up in Google Maps search.
Image sizes are about 1.7MB Any idea how things have actually gotten worse after this “improvement”?
Thanks,
Olivia

What improvement are you referring to, moving the server? Is your new server as beefy as the old server? That could be the main cause
Image sizes seem to be a bit high can you optimize them better?
use yslow or google pagespeed to analyze what is slowing down the site also webpagetest.org

Hi Olivia,
Maybe Rand has set about you (translation here for all non UK folk) for ripping off the SEOmoz site?
In all seriousness, 1.7mb is rather excessive for images. I would consider scaling these down.
I've never heard of any association between scriptsdown and increased page speed, so I doubt this is effecting it (PS - have you heard of Google Tag Manager?)
Is your new server equivalent in spec to your previous server? Smaller capacities and bandwidth can play a small part in load speed but probably not by that much... Just a thought though.
Cheers
Matt

Overlay / modal for product pages - bad or good for SEO?
Hi all, I am considering using full overlays/modals for an e-commerce site for all our product pages (category/listing pages will be "normal", the product page will come over the listing page as an overlay/modal when you click on the product). Those “product overlays” will also be accessible directly with own URL (if need to be linked to for ex.). All the literature I find out there treats overlays and modals as “marketing” ones (ads, sign-ups, etc.) and is generally critical to overlays when it comes to SEO, while also saying that an overlay that has to do with good UX should not hurt the SEO of our site. What do you think? Will all product pages as overlays be considered as good UX by the search engines and therefore not be negatively impacted, SEO speaking? Or should we stay clear of overlays and create “normal” product pages? Thanks in advance! Arnaud NB: The reason we want to create those overlays are for design and UX purposes, and try to increase our conversion rate.

Individual statistics (not aggregated) for 'local pack' and 'organic search results' when both on the same page
Hi, For a particular keyword combination we show up on the local pack but also on the organic search results on the 1st page. I have never been able to find out what the CTR, #clicks, conversions for this two different kinds of positions are individually. The aggregate figures I can find out in Google Search Console / Analytics, but I would like to know on an individual level as I am testing out different things. With the statistics on Google My Business I can't get along actually...no CTR as far as i know. Any hint? Cheers, Cesare

Any possibility to track goal completions/conversions at a sub-page (non-landing page) level in Google Analytics?
We’re promoting our sub-page it's http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/london on our homepage under the slideshow so I need to see how many people went to the homepage, then went to this page, and then converted (enquired or booked.) What I can’t see is how many people did that. I know how to look up how many people landed on that page and then converted, but I need to know how many people navigated there and then converted. Is that possible? I can only see Goal Completions if I look at that page as a landing page, but that only presents a very slim view of the total visits when compared to those pages generally. Any way to check the entire behavior or activities happening through this page i.e. /flights/london?

Increase conversion rate to buy
I am trying to understand why my women fashion site has a very low conversion, basically zero apart from some occasional sales (last one a few months ago) There is a lack of organic traffic the to shop subdomain, but what worries me is that (email/social media) campaigns to existing clients who happily buy repeatedly from our brick and mortar store do not generate results, despite using promotion codes etc. Before investing heavily in PPC campaigns etc, I'd like to improve conversion. Any advice on what can be improved ? PD: link can be found in my profile.

Landing page on a separate domain?
I want to start a PPC campaign for an ecommerce site, but my ads are rejected due to my URL being offensive. The name works great from a branding perspective, but it has kept me from being listed in certain directories and advertisements. I thought about buying a separate domain to host the landing pages for the PPC campaign where the user would then be redirected to my product page for purchasing. Is this a good idea? Would you recommend another approach?

How much time is enough to test?
I am not an adwords expert but this is is the strategy I am following: 1. I create an adgroup for each set of keywords that will target the same ad. 2, I set the bid high to appear first. 3. After 3 to 5 days I remove the ones with low CTR over the impressions, anything below 1%. For example: for this url: http://www.theprinterdepo.com/hp-laser-4250-printer-q5400a-r I created an AD, and initially I put 10 keywords, after one week I had wasted a lot of money, after 4 days I deleted 7 keywords, and after 8 days, I left only one keyword with a very good CTR of almost 3% and conversion rate of 4%. The question is: how much is enough time to test and remove keywords? is one day of data good enough? Should I make this test with the highest bid possible? Should I keep the high bid forever?? 11 dollars for one click seems pretty expensive for one printer of 200 dollars when converted. Does position 1 guarantee more conversions? Maybe as long as it appears on the first 5 or 6 then its enough so I can decrease bid?

Does the word next to domain gives more relevancy to the page of it's URL?
Whether putting a (category or brand) word next to domain is better than on the end of an URL? (i.e. domain.com/sony/tvs or domain.com/tv/sony) Which one would get higher result on SERP "tv" or "sony" in both cases? Or maybe they both serves the same?
