I went CDN and now Roger is ticked off?
-
I have optimized my blogs (for speed) and it was a huge success.
One site that was loading around the 7-8 second mark now actually has more content including a walk on video and my best load time is a .42 seconds with both sides giving me low to mid 90s.
Roger has been pretty quiet lately but now as the CDN requires 302 redirects to function with dynamic content, I have hundreds and hundreds of 302 warnings.
I did not realize that site speed was weighted so heavy but 3 of my blogs have gone from PR1 to PR3 overnight without any other changes at all.
I know Google will penalize a site with too many 302 but I am pretty sure that until you can afford a memcache system this is standard practice. Just wanted to make sure that I do not have another HARD lesson ahead.
Thanks

Hi David,
It's odd that Roger would pick up on so many 302s. When I ran a crawl of your site with Screaming Frog and the only 302s were for static assets, which I don't think roger would be crawling anyway. What sort of URLs are you getting the 302s for? If you think these are errors, feel free to contact the help team (help@seomoz.org) and see if they can help you sort this out.
You could most likely rewrite whatever Wordpress plugin to return a 301 instead of a 302 (or have a wordpress php developer do it for you - it should be a pretty simple job) but overall, it probably won't make much a huge difference in your SEO.
But in general, you want to minimize your redirects when speeding up your site. For example, SEOmoz uses a CDN, but each static resource is linked directly to the CDN server, without the redirect.
For my own wordpress sites, I use WP Super Cache and CloudFlare. Both are free and have sped up my sites amazingly well. In particular, I'm a huge fan of CloudFlare, given the extra security measures. Well worth checking out.

Thank You,
The site that is springing the most 302 is http://86theprint.com which I had running on a full CDN (w3 Total Cache) but it broke the site so I have tried a plugin that uses S3 buckets...
As to not waste any of your time, although it is awesome you are willing to look, all I really need to know is that the 302's must go. If that is true then it is what it is and I will get it back to localhost files and start over.
Thank You Very Much.
Yeager
I also have several 302 from QuickResponseQR.com. Everything on this site is on the CDN, all cnamed through the sub domain cdn.quickresponseqr.com & cdn2.quickresponseqr.com. CDN is Cloudfront.

Hey David
can you post a link to your page and highlight some CDN content?
Lots of sites use a CDN for assets and don't have these kind of issues and certainly don't use a 302 system to generate the URL.
If you look at Unbounce and their noobs guide the main site runs on www.unbounce.com but the assets are on what I assume to be their CDN which runs on assets.unbounce.com.
If you were to look at one of the common cloud vendors like say rackspace.co.uk then you would just get a web ready URL that returns your content via a standard HTTP 200 OK response from the most local cache of the content.
I worked on a site recently that used rackspace and it seemed like a pretty solid solution and certainly there were no 302 redirects.
Post a link though and happy to take a quick look and see if I can't feed back a little more else maybe consider using a different CDN!
Cheers
Marcus

Uninstalled WordPress, now getting 200 errors of 500 response code
Hello there, A little while ago I installed WordPress on the server I use with Bluehost to try out a theme. My business domain name is also the primary account on this server. WordPress was causing some serious issues on the server so I uninstalled it, and now I have over 200 "500 response code" errors according to WebMaster tools. I've included a screenshot of some of them. Could anyone advise me on what to do about this? Thanks so much! MYbW6

How to track my actual traffic source using Google Analytics which are now showing as referral traffic?
Hi Mozzers, I went through many Q&As in the community this morning. I found a solution where I could just remove the referral site in analytics>admin>property>tracking info>referral exclusion list. So I removed paypal.com which was the main referral traffic. I thought the problem is solved. Later today I got another order, now the referral traffic is from eway.com, now what? Yes I know I will add this to the exclusion list but there will be many more referral sites. My main concern is I am not able to track the actual traffic source. How do I do that? 1. Do I need to use google url tracking for all my pages?

2. Do I need to add tracking code in each page of the site?
3. Is there a way to track the actual source of this traffic, now that the transaction is already made but reflects as referral traffic in Google Analytics? jZjTN0 -
Goolge: Mobile friendliness is now a ranking factor on Mobile
John Mueller from Google has just confirmed: Google has just confirmed that mobile friendliness is now a ranking factor for people on smartphones. The date it goes live is 24th April 2015. There is a great presentation on the hangout - which will be available later to watch and once its available I will update with a link - but I would make sure your checking webmaster tools for any alerts / messages if you care about smartphone users. What do people recommend, regarding responsive vs mobile site vs dynamic serving. Is your site ready? What are you planning on doing since the update has been announced.

To avoid errors in our Moz crawl, we removed subdomains from our host. (First we tried 301 redirects, also listed as errors.) Now we have backlinks all over the web that are broken. How bad is this, from a pagerank standpoint?
Our MOZ crawl kept telling us we had duplicate page content even though our subdomains were redirected to our main site. (Pages from Wineracks.vigilantinc.com were 301 redirected to vigilantinc.com/wineracks.) Now, to solve that problem, we have removed the wineracks.vigilantinc.com subdomain. The error report is better, but now we have broken backlinks - thousands of them. Is this hurting us worse than the duplicate content problem?

Roger returned single page
A search query in Google shows 156 indexed results. Yet Roger has completed a crawl and returned a single page. The website is table based, but there appear to be no redirects or Javascript blocking bots so I'm unsure why Roger has under delivered. The problem is not unique to Roger. I ran the site through Screaming Frog's desktop crawler and it also returned a single page. I'm wondering if there is something in the site code I don't know to look for that is stopping Roger & Screaming Frog from crawling the site. Appreciate any insights you can offer. PS. I've read https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/409821-Why-Isn-t-My-Site-Being-Crawled-You-re-Not-Crawling-All-My-Pages- and don't think these suggested causes apply.

How to prevent duplicat content issue and indexing sub domain [ CDN sub domain]?
Hello! I wish to use CDN server to optimize my page loading time ( MaxCDN). I have to use a custom CDN sub domain to use these services. If I added a sub domain, then my blog has two URL (http://www.example.com and http://cdn.example.com) for the same content. I have more than 450 blog posts. I think it will cause duplicate content issues. In this situation, what is the best method (rel=canonical or no-indexing) to prevent duplicate content issue and prevent indexing sub domain? And take the optimum service of the CDN. Thanks!

I physically changed my URL and now I have two...How do I get rid of the old one?
Hi, I physically changed my URL as something else and now Google thinks I have two duplicate pages (I know not to do this in the future). e.g. I had www.example.com/i-like-seo.aspx and changed it to: www.example.com/i-love-seo.aspx Google sees this as two pages now and my CMS system is only showing one page (The new page) Also, SEOMOZ is seeing two pages and further more sees them both as having two different amounts of inbound links? When I change content on the new url page, the old url page also updates. I'm really confused as to what has happened here and don't know how to get rid of the old url so that Google doesn't think that I have duplicate content. Any help to what has happened or how to fix it would be so helpful and appreciated. Many thanks.

My site went from #3 to #2 to #1 to #10 in Google.nl
I have a site which has been #3 in Google.nl for a certain long tail phrase for pretty long. After I optimized my site some more for this specific phrase I went to #2 and eventually some weeks later to #1. But when I finally became #1, the celebration was short, as two weeks thereafter I dropped to #10 where I have been stuck for several weeks now... Can this be some sort of over optimization penalty? I personally don't think so as I hardly created links with the anchor, or a variation of it. On page also seems pretty much in order to me. Also, the site is on a exact match domain and used to rank for it, but doesn't even rank in the top #100 anymore. Any advice? PS: I rather don't publish the URL, but if anyone can help out I have no problem sending it in a private message, including the phrase in question.
