Wordpress Website + 404 Errors
-
Hi everyone,
I like to do a bit of auditing for our clients using SEOMoz. Once client that's using a Wordpress website had reported over a couple hundred 404 errors. However, when checking out the links, all the webpages (that I've tested) loaded just fine.
Does anyone know why this would be the case? I thought, perhaps, the website might have gone down when it was crawling, but I have no evidence to back this up.

Thanks Keri, I'll give this a try and see what I find.

You can do a crawl of up to 3000 URLs from http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/crawl-test, which would let you know if the site is still giving off 404s. Also, you could run a server header checker tool to see what header codes the URLs give and make sure they're not returning a 404 even though they're loading fine.

I see. The SEOMoz tool is displaying this. I would report it to SEOMoz then.

Sorry, I should have clarified, one client [on my SEOMoz campaign] is reporting a couple hundred 404 errors, but the pages load fine for me.

How did the client get the information?

Canonical error from Google
Moz couldn't explain this properly and I don't understand how to fix it. Google emailed this morning saying "Alternate page with proper canonical tag." Moz also kinda complains about the main URL and the main URL/index.html being duplicate. Of course they are. The main URL doesn't work without the index.html page. What am I missing? How can I fix this to eliminate this duplicate problem which to me isn't a problem?

Extremely slow TTFB (WordPress)
Hi guys. I’m not sure if this is a relevant place to post such question, but I’m really desperate. The TTFB on my website is ridiculously slow no matter what I do. I’m using Apache and the latest version of WordPress on a VPS (NameCheap). 2 CPU Cores 2 GB RAM 40 GB SSD RAID 10 1000 GB/mo Bandwidth GZIP compression is enabled, images are optimized, CSS, JS, HTML optimized, caching enabled (WordPress plugin), CDN is enabled (Cloudflare), PHP updated to the latest version. As I said, no matter what I do, TTFB remains very slow (most of the time the TTFB of my website is between 1.5 - 3 seconds). Google Page-speed Insights score is 86 for mobile and 95 for desktop (with 1.5s TTFB). What do I do about it? Will it affect the rankings of my website? Thank you so much.

404 Error Pages being picked up as duplicate content
Hi, I recently noticed an increase in duplicate content, but all of the pages are 404 error pages. For instance, Moz site crawl says this page: https://www.allconnect.com/sc-internet/internet.html has 43 duplicates and all the duplicates are also 404 pages (https://www.allconnect.com/Coxstatic.html for instance is a duplicate of this page). Looking for insight on how to fix this issue, do I add an rel=canonical tag to these 60 error pages that points to the original error page? Thanks!

Website is not indexed in Google
Hi Guys, I have a problem with a website from a customer. His website is not indexed in Google (except for the homepage). I could not find anything that can possibly be the cause. I already checked the robots.txt, sitemap, and plugins on the website. In the HTML code i also couldn't find anything which makes indexing harder than usual. This is the website i am talking about: http://www.xxxx.nl/ (Dutch) The only thing that i am guessing now is the Google sandbox, but even that is quite unlikely. I hope you guys discover something i could not find! Thanks in advance 🙂

404-like content
A site that I look after is having lots of soft 404 responses for pages that are not 404 at all but unique content pages. the following page is an example: http://www.professionalindemnitynow.com/medical-malpractice-insurance-clinics This page returns a 200 response code, has unique content, but is not getting indexed. Any ideas? To add further information that may well impact your answer, let me explain how this "classic ASP" website performs the SEO Friendly url mapping: All pages within the custom CMS have a unique ID which are referenced with an ?intID=xx parameter. The custom 404.asp file receives a request, looks up the ID to find matching content in the CMS, and then server.transfers the visitor to the correct page. Like I said, the response codes are setup correctly, as far as Firebug can tell me. any thoughts would be most appreciated.
