Redirect From .aspx to .html if already indexed - Website Redesign
-
Hi Guys
I would like to know if somebody could possibly shed some light on this for me.
We are in the process of re-designing our site, but we are keeping all of our content in terms of site structure, internal linking etc. the same.
Now we were wondering if it would be a SEO best practice for us to change our pages' extension from .aspx to .html and just put a re-direct from the aspx to the html pages.
Or should we keep everything as is, and maybe just revise our on-page seo efforts as well as do some more link-building.
I just have to note that we are currently ranking very well for top positions and obviously all these pages are already nicely indexed.
And then another question I have is with regards to our mobi site of this same website. Our dev team created it using Responsive Web Design, but they decided to implement techniques that show and hide content based on what device you are viewing it on.
So when viewing it on your desktop, it will show content as per normal, but when viewing it on a mobile device it will hide this content and show the content formatted for that specific mobile device.
So we are obviously sitting with a case of dup content here.Is this technique acceptable, or is there a workaround/different way of implementing this?
Thanks In Advance
Dave

changing .asp to .html won't help your SEO so i would just leave it alone.
if you were going to deal with extensions i would lose the .asp and not have any extension.

Website usability
We have just re-launched one of our websites, but we are looking at ideas to create it more usable. The website is aimed at engineers and aimed at getting more inquiries for the products with high value - and create more sales for products with a relatively low value. In terms of the design of the site, this is something we are open to, we also know the page speed is not the greatest and we are looking at improving this in the meantime. https://aropumpshop.com/ Any suggestions for usability and SEO would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

URL Structure for a shopping website
I have a website which currently has a bad URL structure. I would like to change it. Proposed URL Structure: www.website.com www.website.com/category/ www.website.com/category/men/ www.website.com/category/men/jackets www.website.com/category/men/jackets/product-name Is it a good URL structure? I have seen some other website uses their product name right after their root domain. www.website.com/product-name I have also seen another structure which changes like below: www.website.com/womens-jackets/products www.website.com/mens-jackets/products Which is Good URL structure for SEO & users?

HTTPS redirecting to subdomain; do I need to 301 to HTTP first?
Hello there, quick question on HTTPS downgrade to HTTP. Originally, full site was HTTPS. Redesign eliminated need for secure layer. Site currently has https 301'd to sub.domain.com. Ideally, site would live at domain.com, but with the old site having been indexed https, the security warning triggers when you visit, hence the 301 to a subdomain. Thinking possible solutions here are to a) add back in secure layer or b) 301 all old https pages to new http pages. Have I overlooked something? With (a), I will see no SEO impact, correct? With (b), can I expect impact similar to a relaunch? Have seen a lot of chatter that there is some impact in switching http to https, but not much the other way. Any help much appreciated!

Traffic flow going through homepage, /default.aspx, and /index.htm - How do I fix this?
In the Google Analytics visitor flow section, most of my traffic is starting off on the homepage, but a significant portion somehow is being directed to /default.aspx, as well as a minor fraction at /index.htm - see the attached image for what this looks like. My questions are, why is this happening, is it negatively affecting the site, and should I just fix it through a filter in Analytics or consult IT? Navigating to the /default.aspx page in the address bar simply returns a blank screen. Any idea of what's going on here? The logo in the top left corner of the site directs to /index.htm, so I think I have that issue solved, but /default.aspx is definitely stumping me. The server currently runs on Apache, though I don't know if it always did. My standard method of simply Googling the problem didn't give me any definitive answers, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Q12QqpC.jpg

Subdomains For Real Estate Website
I am currently working on a proposal for a clients Wordpress website development which includes ongoing SEO after the website is developed. I have looked into a number of options and the one that seems the most cost effective involves using subdomains for the individual listings pages. What I want: clientsdomain.com/listings/idxnumber/ What I can get for a decent price: listings.clientsdomain.com/idxnumber/ So the majority of the website will actually exist on a subdomain because the IDX API will automatically populate pages for all of the MLS listings in the area (hundreds or thousands). Meanwhile the domain itself will have all the neighborhood pages and other optimized content, blogs and whatnot. My concern is that dividing the website like this will have negative effects on SEO. There wont be duplicate content across subdomain and main domain, but they will share a lot of links back and forth. I haven't found any recent sources on the topic. Almost everything I have found says that dividing a website in this manor is bad for SEO, but these articles are often many years old. Does anyone know of a Wordpress plugin/IDX company that can provide a solution that doesn't use a subdomain and actually just lists each MLS page within a directory? I am open to using another platform, I am just most familiar with Wordpress. Will using a subdomain in the ways mentioned above have a profound negative effect on SEO? Thank you for your time in responding, I greatly appreciate it.

‘80-90% of SEO already done for you in Wordpress’ Am I missing something?
Hi there, I’m looking for some feedback on a statement made on my Facebook Page re Wordpress and SEO. Please understand I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but I am competent and achieve satisfactory results for clients, more so since becoming a SEOmoz Pro user, I’ve just had some great results for a client using SEOmoz guidelines in ‘On Page SEO Reports’ thank you very much! A comment however made on my FB page has got my interest…. “as you (kn)no(w) google loves WP and will get listed quicker as 80 to 90% of your SEO is already done” Does Wordpress (or Joomla for that matter mentioned in the same conversation) have some SEO advantages that Google loves as the poster would have me believe, can I save time and effort working in word press from an SEO point of view? I use the age old techniques of targeting key phrases and words and distributing them accordingly. Creating internal link structures with ‘key worded anchor text’ etc before embarking on any off page SEO. Do any of you vastly experienced (in comparison to me) SEO folk have any insight into what this statement refers to? I did not gather any references to SEO advantages in Wordpress or Joomla in the Enge and Fishkin et al book The Art of SEO, or any of the other books I’ve read, to develop my knowledge on SEO for the benefit of my clients and of course my pocket.
