Web server locations for international seo
-
We have a site that is currently hosted in the far east for the far eastern market.
We are having issues with the hosting co. so we are considering bringing the site back onto our servers in the UK. However, we don't obviously want to damage too much the bit of uplift we get from local hosting.
What is our best approach? Is it ok just to have the site in the UK even though its aimed at the Far East? Or is the use of a proxy server good? Or should we look for other local hosts?
Any help very gratefully received.

Thanks for the speedy response. I was hoping that was the answer. We have a VPS in the UK so I'll go for that.
But it does lead me to a follow on question. How do you account for regional variants in search results?
I understand that each variant of a search engine can use a slightly different algorithm and a local site is more likely to have local links but there does seem still to be a greater disparity of results than these things would suggest.
Many thanks,
Iain

Hosting location is no longer important for SEO, go with a company that is reputable, has 99.9% uptime and is fast, maybe a VPS. Make sure there is no downtime when doing the switchover. Just because a server is in closer proximity to your users doesn't mean it's going to be faster. It's all about performance and reliability, and a hosting company with good support is important too.

SEO Problems with Loading to a Subfolder?
A client has a single page app website that shows https://example.com/example when you visit https://example.com . I don't think this is a redirect; I think it's a URL rewrite. My questions: Is this setup common with single page apps? What are the SEO benefits or drawbacks of having a domain's homepage load, rewrite, or redirect to a subfolder?

How to start more deep seo.
Okay, lets say that I already fixed all my technical seo stuff. All my crawl errors and warnings are gone. Now I really want to start seo so I have a few questions. 1. I know I should work based on a page and not on a domain, so it means I should choose which keyword to optimize each page for? only one keyword per page? or it might be more? 2. Some keywords are very competitive for me, example for my site www.theprinterdepo.com, the best keyword to rank would be printers, but it would take years a beginner to do that, what should I do? 3. If highly competitive keywords are not an option, which keywords shuold I use? the ones that have more global monthly searches? Thanks

REL = cannonical and web app
I started a web app campaign for a site that I recently finished. It had no errors or warnings, but issued rel=cannonical notices for every page on the site. What does this mean?

Does changing nameservers negatively impact SEO?
Had to redirect the nameservers to the hosting account in order for the domain email addresses to work. Since then, search results have dropped from the first page to second and much lower with the same keywords. Does that make sense? Another change was redirecting approx 10 parked domains to the main site, was that a mistake?

Locate your Competitors Traffic Sources -SEO related sources - vs. other sources.
Is there a tool out there that will help you locate your competitors traffic sources? I would like to see how much of their traffic is coming from SEO related sources - vs. other sources. I know compete will do this - but they are ungodly expensive. Thanks!
