Where do I go from here?
-
The keywords report has informed me that my company has dropped significantly for a few keywords that we were doing well for previously. How can we go about increasing our keyword rankings again? We have tried content writing through blogs and articles, neither of which seem to have the same effect as they did before the Panda updates. In addition, we are optimizing our product pages, including the meta titles, meta descriptions, and product descriptions. Should we focus more now on social media, such as using certain keywords in Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr posts? Are there any other ways we can increase our keyword rankings?

No worries at all, glad we could help!

Sven and John, thank you very much for your help and fast responses. I am going to get started on employing the methods you both have suggested, and hopefully they will help us turn things around. The tips and resources are definitely appreciated!

I would aim for a high quality, content based link-building campaign, using (mainly) your brand name as anchor text in order to avoid over-optimisation penalties.
Here's a superb post featuring numerous high quality link-building methods:

And my post on the SEOMoz blog might help you when it comes to producing high quality content that will naturally attract links:

And this post is an excellent introduction to ethical link-building:

Hope that helps - good luck with your campaign!

Hi Jaishree
It's hard to say without looking at the actual website and SERP's but I'd like to share some thoughts:
I would never use a blog to rank for your most important keywords. It will probably not have as high a conversion rate as your product pages, and it's pages are usually not optimized for a single query. Use your blog to rank for the longtail keywords that do not require a single optimized landingpage.
Also social media is not the way to go when you're looking for better rankings (I think). Don't get me wrong, it's great for driving traffic and building your brand but I personally don't think it will do any good for your rankings in the short term.
So what would I do? When on page optimization is finished, I normally have a look at the SERP's and see if I can understand why I rank where I rank. That is, are pages above you technically better? Is their off-site SEO better than yours? Try to analyse this and the next logical step in your SEO strategy will present itself. the comparison feature in OSE is great for this.
One thing that could make a difference is adding a few (only a few!) deep links to your product pages with optimized anchor texts. However, make sure you only do this if you have a strong healthy link profile because otherwise you're bound to be eaten alive by the Penguin!
Best of Luck,
Sven Witteveen

Used 'wrong' keywords in blog posts, should I go back and edit?
I have a bout 70 blog articles spanning about 2 years. Because I hadn't done proper SEO research, I used the term I thought made the most sense when talking about my services. However now that I have done my homework, I realize that the term I like, is not actually the term most people use to search. Very few of these articles are time sensitive and mostly generic best practice kind of stuff. I'm not talking about keyword stuffing, simply going back and replacing one poorly chosen keyword with one that people are actually searching for where it occurs naturally in the course of the article. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm a noob. Keywords for new ecommerce site. Should I go for the "big boys" or start small?
Hey guys, My ecommerce site sells fair trade jewelry, bags, shoes from developing countries. I used the Keyword difficulty tool and came up with a list of about 50 keywords. Should I focus on the 29%-50% difficulty keywords or go for the 50%-75%? Or a mix of both? Thanks so much, Adam My list is attached in a .jpeg VmpJ7iQ

What's better, lots of keyword targeted pages or fewer pages with more traffic going into them?
We have just introduced targeted pages for all of our keywords, however their is lots of overlap with existing established pages. For instance for the keyword Small Meeting Rooms we have the new page, titled Small-Meeting-Rooms which is now competing with the more established Meeting-Rooms. Its early days for both pages, about 2 weeks and 6 weeks respectively. But is it counterproductive to spread out our search juice between lost of pages? Should we just focus on a few? Any feedback, especially feedback based on real experiences is much appreciated!?

Where do I go from here with my keyword research?
Hi all. I'm wondering if I can get some assistance on keyword research. I've set out a step-by-step process for myself about how to go about finding a list of keywords we want to optimise our site for. I've used a guide over at http://www.seonick.net/keyword-research to break it down step-by-step. After using Keyword Tool and Ubersuggest to get a list of keyword suggestions with their local monthly search volumes, I now have an Excel file with 1663 suggestions (yikes!). It is at this point where I am not 100% sure of what to do with this data & how to figure out which of these terms we should optimise for. I know not to go purely based on the local monthly search volume because that is not based on organic searches. So how would I go about condensing this into a list of keyword suggestions to target for optimising? Thanks in advance for assistance on this.

SEO beginner- How to decide what keyword to go after?
I started a website called Think and Grow Entrepreneur. I'm not sure where to start with Keywords and which ones to go after. Should I input the same keywords over and over my blog to rank in those or should I look at every post as a single entity and try to rank different keywords in each blog. Ideally I would like to rank for the keyword Entrepreneur, but there are already very powerful companies with the same keyword. How should I go about this situation? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Google update going to cause problems for me and maybe you!
Hi, I got a warning come up today in my Adwords account about exact and phrase match being updated to include misspellings etc Read more here: https://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&answer=2537522 Now I use the Google keyword tool to research into exact match terms for SEO, gives me an idea of the search volumes I could potentially receive. If Google adds misspellings, singular and plural forms, acronyms, stemmings etc this will change the data in the Keyword tool not giving accurate figures on the EXACT term. Any thoughts?

Best keywords to go after..with a "twist"
I have a website where I target basic training recruits going into the military. But this dang trend going around where "civilians" are signing up for these boot camp classes are throwing off my thinking that most of the traffic for keywords like basic trianing and boot camp are meant for these civlians. How can i best find the keywords that will target military recruit? I am looking for some good anchor texting keywords.
