Boosting Organic Search
-
Hi there,
I have been analysing the performance of my keywords through SEOMoz reports for some time now and I am trying to understand why I rank highly in certain keywords but do not receive any organic search visits for them?
My pages are tagged with the keyword(s) and my content including new content through my blog pushes the words.
These keywords are industry standards that I know people search for and are used by other companies and competitors and yet, my site does not receive many, if any, visits despite being ranked in the top 5 or 10.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Those are the keywords we push in our google ppc and blogs but in terms of ranking we are still low - but then I guess this is where we have to put in the leg work and just keep putting relevant, quality content out there.

Look at "spanish lessons" and "learn spanish" as these keywords may supply you with more traffic. They would be harder to rank for of course but over the long term would give you a more constant level of traffic.

While many SEOs focus on rankings, looking at Click thru Rate is essential...(a major focus in PPC).
Create a compelling description that will get users to click on your link. Test out different descriptions and measure CTR to evaluate what works best. People like FREE stuff...so place "FREE Shipping" or some other compelling offer in the description. Is this item on sale? Did this item win an award? Is it ranked "Best Product" by consumer reports? You can also search for this product on Google...look at the PPC ads on top of SERP...do the PPC ads have any compelling text? You can also change locations, to find different PPC ads.

Hi Karl thanks for your reply.
I think you are right in that there is little traffic despite the keyword being used by all other companies (General Spanish Course) but then that´s what is confusing as it is supposed to be the main search term for people looking for our type of product(s). I am in the process of testing variations on it to see if there is an improvement.

Hi Douglas
It could be a number of things, but here's a few things to consider.
First of all, what do the keyword search results look like? I know of a client who was ranking #2 for a keyword - but after position 1 there was a massive amount of local search results before position 2, which understandably soaked up a lot of the clicks. I'd check your keywords for any local results and see if this could be affecting click through rate.
Second, top 5 is nice, but so often top 3 is even better (as it guarantees your website to appear above the fold, even if there are PPC ads). I've seen clickthrough rate increase considerably from 5 to 3 and even 4 to 3, so this could be the reason.
Third, double check your keywords using the Google keywords tool. The local search volume levels are of interest here - it is worth noting that they are an estimation from adwords, not organic search. If the volumes are low, this might also explain a lack of clicks, although if you're going on industry standard keywords this may not be applicable. The adwords tool has to be taken with a pinch of salt for organic estimations as well.
Finally, how do your title tags and meta descriptions appear? Do they have compelling call to actions? They should - these are the primary windows that searches will make their first impression on your website. If you're an ecommerce site, "free shipping" always attracts the attention. Similarly, are you utilising rich snippets? Can you use G+ authorship for the pages you're ranking for?
Just some food for thought and I hope this helps.

Hi Douglas,
Have you used the keyword tool to find the exact match figures? They may be industry standard terms but if the search volume is low then there may be less traffic than you think.
By highly, do you mean in positions 1-3? If so then it would point to the fact that there is little traffic to be gained and you would be best moving on to another keyword. if you are lower than that, it may be that the websites above you are very good at converting visits into sales.

Sudden Drop in Organic Traffic through Image Search
We've have been facing a strange issue with our Organic Image Search Traffic since July month, 10th July 2016 to be precise. There is a significant decline in our Organic Image Search Traffic that we can see in our Google Search Console Account, We have noticed a sudden drop (Almost 80%-90%) in our daily clicks through image search in Google Search Console, Does anyone here have any idea why this has happened suddenly though everything is same as it was before and we haven't done any changes in image names and images path. Organic Traffic dropped 50%. Anyone want to have a stab at why? (URL listed)
Just curious what the pro's on here think is the reason why our site got hammered recently. The URL is www.jobshadow.com. We've got gobs of quality content that had been ranking for quite a few keywords. Even one from Rand himself http://www.jobshadow.com/interview-with-seo-and-seomoz-founder-rand-fishkin/ Rankings for even the exact match domain keyword 'Job Shadow' have been pummeled. Anyway, we've got a pretty solid link profile I would think. We also have a very high user time on the site, thus suggesting the organic traffic was engaged when Google ranked us for those keywords. We have lots of unsolicited inbound links and even recent ones from PBS. I'm not really sure what it takes to please the "machine" at this point. Curious as to what everyone here thinks.

Our automobile portal is the leading in Pakistan and we are there for almost 10 years now, we already rank in top 3 keywords ( top 1 on most of them ) but our search traffic has become stagnant, we have tried to optimize for keywords that google search tool show has more traffic and we have gained ranking in most of them but still our search traffic isnt showing any much increase. Is it possible that we have already got all the juice and there arent much people who are searching auto related keywords or what can we do to increase organic traffic? Work on long tail keywords? Whats next?

Organic listing & map listing on 1st page of Google
Hi, Back then, a company could get multiple listings in SERP, one in Google Maps area and a homepage or internal pages from organic search results. But lately, I've noticed that Google are now putting together the maps & organic listings. This observation has been confirmed by a couple of SEO people and I thought it made sense, but one day I stumble with this KWP "bmw dealership phoenix" and saw that www.bmwnorthscottsdale.com has separate listing for google places and organic results. Any idea how this company did this? Please see the attached image

URL Importance In Search
This may have been addressed before. If it is, please link me to the thread. I'm trying to SEO for local surrounding cities my client services. It was suggested I purchase domains relevant to those cities and create separate pages optimized for those local keywords. Wondering if this is a good tactic. For example my client's business is located in Chicago, but services the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. Whats the current, best way to SEO?

Site name appended to page title in google search
Hi there, I have a strange problem concerning how the search results for my site appears in Google. The site is Texaspoker.dk and for some strange reason that name is appended at the end of the page title when I search for it in Google. The site name is not added to the page titles on the site. If I search in Google.dk (the relevant search engine for the country I am targeting) for "Unibet Fast Poker" I get the following page title displayed in the search results: Unibet Fast Poker starter i dag - få €10 og prøv ... - Texaspoker.dk If you visit the actual page you can see that there is no site name added to the page title: http://www.texaspoker.dk/unibet-fast-poker It looks like it is only being appended to the pages that contains rich snippets markup and not he forum threads where the rich snippets for some reason doesn't work. If I do a search for "Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events" the title appears as it should without the site name being added: Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events Anybody have any experience regarding this or an idea to why this is happening? Maybe the rich snippets are automatically pulling the publisher name from my Google+ account... edited: It doesn't seem to have anything to do with rich snippets, if I search for "Billeder og stuff v.2" the site name is also appended and if I search for "bedste poker bonus" the site name is not.

If you rank first organically for a keyword, will you rank first for variations?
Hi everyone, Hoping that someone will be able to answer this question for us. If we rank first organically for a keyword, are we safe to assume that we'll rank first (or close to it) for variations of that keyword as well? E.g. If we rank first easily for "Hamilton Island", can we safely assume that we will rank well organically for close variations of that keyword such as "Hamilton Islands", "Hamiltonisland", "Hamilton Island Hotel" due to the fact that "Hamilton Island" is in those keywords? We're deciding which keywords to monitor in SEOmoz and we don't want to waste keywords on very similar terms if we don't have to. Really appreciate any responses! Cheers.
