Does a number at the end of a permalink matter?
-
I'm reorganizing our categories (we had never used them) and some of them are the same as old tags. So one of them is going to have to have -1 at the end of the permalink (dueling-pianos vs dueling-pianos-1). Does this matter SEO-wise? Is the permalink less powerful to the search engines if it has a number at the end of it? Should I change our tags from dueling-pianos to dueilng-pianos-1? Or should I make the category dueling-piano-1?
-
That's why I was going to name them dueling-pianos and dueling-pianos-1. They both like like the first version. Thanks for the tip!

I can't see that having any effect SEO wise.
The only real concern I would consider is from a user experience perspective. Does this look neat for a user? If it was named dueling-pianos-2, one might be inclined to look for the first version of the page.
But even that is a stretch. I wouldn't worry about it at all and keep it how it is.

Does location of my VPS and IP adress matter to Google's ranking?
We're busy with adding a German version of our webshop. Right now we're quit successful in The Netherlands with our webshop and SEO. I wonder if Google minds the location of the website (VPS) and IP address concerning SEO for our German webshop. If I Google on this subject I can not find a clear answer. Can somebody help me?

Are TLD and numbers in subdomain ranking factors?
Several years ago my firm migrated our domain from a very lengthy 3point7designs.com to 3.7designs.co (we couldn't get 7designs.com at the time) thinking this would be a clever way to brand the name 3.7 Designs. Ever since that change we've had a dramatic reduction in search rankings which has lasted years. https://monosnap.com/file/adJUdkX9YCXQaODcXype4qza70pMCE You can see the drop in early 2011, we made the switch in February. I've read some discussion about Google changing weights based on having numbers in the subdomain as it appears spammy. I've also herd speculation about .co vs .com. Further evidence is being outranked by a competitor for a term we previously dominated despite having higher domain authority, inbound links, exact match keyword in our title and content. We now own 37designs.com and 7designs.com and are contemplating a switch. Any insight into these being ranking factors or is the site being penalized for other reasons?

Do internal links from non-indexed pages matter?
Hi everybody! Here's my question. After a site migration, a client has seen a big drop in rankings. We're trying to narrow down the issue. It seems that they have lost around 15,000 links following the switch, but these came from pages that were blocked in the robots.txt file. I was wondering if there was any research that has been done on the impact of internal links from no-indexed pages. Would be great to hear your thoughts! Sam

Does 301 vs 302 matter when dealing with "social signal"?
When looking at links and how search engines look at "social signal," does it matter if a link is 301 vs 302? In addition to that, if I build out my own short URL system that gets used for link redirects that include referral attributes, would/could I get penalized if I use 301 instead of 302?

Can I reduce number of on page links by just adding "no follow" tags to duplicate links
Our site works on templates and we essentially have a link pointing to the same place 3 times on most pages. The links are images not text. We are over 100 links on our on page attributes, and ranking fairly well for key SERPS our core pages are optimized for. I am thinking I should engage in some on-page link juice sculpting and add some "no follow" tags to 2 of the 3 repeated links. Although that being said the Moz's on page optimizer is not saying I have link cannibalization. Any thoughts guys? Hope this scenario makes sense.

Do inlinks to a 302'd page revert to the original when the 302 ends?
I have a genuine reason for temporarily moving some pages from my site onto a subdomain for a few weeks. If I do this using a 302, what happens to any in-links to the destination page once the the 302 reverses back to the original URL? Is any Google juice from those links lost?

Do sites with a small number of content pages get penalized by Google?
If my site has just five content pages, instead of 25 or 50, then will it get penalized by Google for a given moderately competitive keyword?
