Meta NOINDEX... how long before Google drops dupe pages?
-
Hi,
I have a lot of near dupe content caused by URL params - so I have applied:
How long will it take for this to take effect? It's been over a week now, I have done some removal with GWT removal tool, but still no major indexed pages dropped.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ben

In his case - he wants to get rid of some duplicate content only.
I see what you mean but if he is not in the situation listed in http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1269119 then it might be the best bet / fastest bet.
For me personally it worked so far very well - if no robots.txt is used as that won't help on the long run as the removal tool has an expiration date of several months.
The down side of the removal tools is the same expiration date - as if you change your mind you will have some issues getting the page sinto the index.

You know that I think you are the bees knees, but I am going to have to disagree on this one. Even Google does not recommend using the removal rool for this application.

Still pals?

There are several things that you can do to get Google to crawl your site (or your new content) quicker and more often. You should be doing all of these, but in case you're not, here is the list.
-
Create a Sitemap and submit it through Web Master Tools
-
Install Google Analytics
-
Create social accounts/update your social accounts
-
Fetch as Google Webmaster tools
-
Update your content more often (to get Google to crawl your site more frequently).
-
Adjust the crawl speed on Google Webmaster tools.
-
Check crawl errors on Google Webmaster tools. Are there sever side errors (500)?
I hope that helps!

Hi,
The best bet is the removal tool from GWT - this is the fastes way.
If your pages are static and google bot is visiting those pages once a month or once 4-5-6 months - you will need to wait until google bot is visiting those pages again, notice the nofollow and drop those from the index.
I'v e seen cases with 6 months.
Anyway you will probably see those pages drop step by step.
What you can try, although is not very straight forward is to build an xml sitemap only with those files and submit it via GWMt - sometimes google bot will think that something new happen and will visit those pages, see the no index and speed the process - but not always as I've seen in some cases that this didn't work - in some cases it did.
Again, the best bet will be the GWMT removal tool.
Cheers.

I'm looking for a bulk way to take off from the Google search results over 600 old and inexisting pages?
When I search on Google site:alexanders.co.nz still showing over 900 results. There are over 600 inexisting pages and the 404/410 errrors aren't not working. The only way that I can think to do that is doing manually on search console using the "Removing URLs" tool but is going to take ages. Any idea how I can take down all those zombie pages from the search results?

Product Pages not indexed by Google
We built a website for a jewelry company some years ago, and they've recently asked for a meeting and one of the points on the agenda will be why their products pages have not been indexed. Example: http://rocks.ie/details/Infinity-Ring/7170/ I've taken a look but I can't see anything obvious that is stopping pages like the above from being indexed. It has a an 'index, follow all' tag along with a canonical tag. Am I missing something obvious here or is there any clear reason why product pages are not being indexed at all by Google? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Update I was told 'that each of the product pages on the full site have corresponding page on mobile. They are referred to each other via cannonical / alternate tags...could be an angle as to why product pages are not being indexed.'

Number of indexed pages dropped. No manual action though?
I have a client who had their WordPress site hacked. At that point there was no message from Google in webmaster tools and the search results for their pages still looked normal. They paid sitelock to fix the site. This was all about a month ago. Logging into Webmaster Tools now there are still no messages from Google nor anything on the manual actions page. Their organic traffic is essentially gone. Looking at the submitted sitemap only 3 of their 121 submitted pages are indexed. Before this all of them where in the index. Looking at the index status report I can see that the number of indexed pages dropped completely off the map. We are sure that the site is free of malware. This client has done no fishy SEO practices. What can be done?

Why would one of our section pages NOT be indexed by Google?
One of our higher traffic section pages is not being indexed by Google. The products that reside on this section page ARE indexed by Google and are on page 1. So why wouldn't the section page be even listed and indexed? The meta title is accurate, meta description is good. I haven't received any notices in Webmaster Tools. Is there a way to check to see if OTHER pages might also not be indexed? What should a small ecom site do to see about getting it listed? SOS in Modesto. Ron

Why Is Google Indexing These Product Pages On Shopify?
How can we communicate to Google the exact product pages we'd like indexed on our site? We're an apparel company that uses Shopify as our ecommerce platform. Website is sportiqe.com. Currently, Google is indexing all types of different pages on our site. **Example of a product page we want indexed: ** Product Page: sportiqe.com/products/PRODUCT-TITLE (Like This) **Examples of product pages being indexed: ** sportiqe.myshopify.com/products/PRODUCT-TITLE sportiqe.com/collections/COLLECTION-NAME/products/PRODUCT-TITLE See attached for an example of how two different "Boston Celtics Grateful Dead" shirts are being indexed. Any suggestions? We've used both Shopify and Google Webmaster tools to set our preferred domain (sportiqe.com). We've also added this snippet of code to our site three months ago thinking that would do the trick... {% if template == 'product' %}{% if collection %} {% endif %}{% endif %} sKwNZOl

Google is displaying my pages path instead of URLS (Pages name)
Does anyone knows why Google is displaying my pages path instead of the URL in the search results, i discoverd that while am searching using a keyword of mine then i copied the link http://www.smarttouch.me/services-saudi/web-services/web-design and found all related results are the same, could anyone one tell me why is that and is it really differs? or the URL display is more important than the Path display for SEO!

Removing a Page From Google index
We accidentally generated some pages on our site that ended up getting indexed by google. We have corrected the issue on the site and we 404 all of those pages. Should we manually delete the extra pages from Google's index or should we just let Google figure out that they are 404'd? What the best practice here?
