Locating Guest Blogging Niches
-
Hey Folks,
Does anybody have advice on tools I could use to locate blogs on specific topics? My plan is to approach the webmasters and offer guest blogging services.
I know I could just do a google search for something like "KEYWORD blogs" but I thought I'd see if there is anything more sophisticated out there.
Thanks,
Rich

Thanks for the mention. I just want to note that we at MyBlogGuest are undergoing a quality-control stage right now: We are trying to drag users FROM link dropping while connecting them to niche community-bloggers, so it's a good time to join!

Gents, thank you so much for the responses. There's a lot to go on here!
@Tim - great tips, clever use of queries. I'll try that this afternoon.
@David - Clever! Would not have thought of that.
@Sebastian - This does sound like hard work, but with great payoffs. I actually have similar relationships in a different niche so I can vouch this approach in that developing the relationship has huge payoffs down the road. Carte Blanche.
Totally thrilled with this advice. Thank you again.

It definitely takes more time, and can be hard to setup initially, but in the end it'll make life easier.
Outreach to bloggers can be really tough. With this method, you've got a foot in the door before you ask for something.
It's also great for general social development - who better to engage with than the people who have the audience!
-
Great point - This is alot harder but more worth while in the long run as you can get better sites to blog for.

Hi Rich
Tom's method is good, but I find that a lot of opportunities arrise from smart interactions and engagement with bloggers on social media channels.
I always find that you're more likely to be allowed to do a guest post for a blog once you've built a relationship first. It's a good idea to research blogs you want to reach out to and then engage with them without asking for anything first. Then, once you/ your brand is on good terms, float the question.
This is also a powerful way to drive blog publicity in a more general way, without even needing to provide a guest post.

The above method is great - One of the best ways is to find someone in the niche doing guest blogging and look at backlinks and search the author bio and reverse image search the avatar to find opportunities. But be careful not to guest blog on free for all and bad sites.

Hi Rich
You could try some search operator queries, try some of these out:
Keyword + intitle:“write for us”
Keyword + intitle:“contribute to”
Keyword + intitle:“submit” + inurl:blog
inpostauthor:guest + keyword
inpostauthor:”guest blog” + keyword
inpostauthor:”guest post” + keyword
inurl:- “write for us” OR “write for me” + keyword
“become a contributor” OR “contribute to this site” + keyword
“Guest Article” + keyword
“Become guest writer” keyword
“Become guest blogger” keyword
“submit a Blog Post” + keyword -

Exchanging Guest Blog Opportunities - SEO Implications?
Haven't found a clear, recent answer on this. What are the SEO implications of exchanging guest blogging opportunities (in other words, we write an article for a partner blog with a backlink, and they write an article on on our blog with a backlink)? The partner site has a 57 domain authority and we have a 24 domain authority.

How many categories should you have within a blog / Wordpress Site for SEO?
Hi Guys I am just wondering whether or not for SEO purposes it is better to have a small number of categories for your blog posts to fit into as opposed to numerous ones. The reason I ask is that I have one site which is fairly new to the search engines - 8 months old which has 7 general categories within the blog for instance "rail contractors", "railway construction" "airport construction" etc I have another site which is 10 years old which has built up 25 different types of categories for instance brand design, brand development, brand management (i guess you could put all these under 1 category "branding"? We've been writing lots of press for both sites... yet the younger site is getting more coverage on Google page 1. Would this be because the blogs / press are more concentrated under a specific category as opposed to being spread thinly throughout the site? Any help would be appreciated. Debs 🙂

Google Authorship for guest posts
I've set up google authorship on my site and my image appears in search result for posts.I run wordpress and my categories are also indexed but it doesn't show up for categories of posts? Is this possible? My other question though is that I do a lot of guest posting and want to get credit as a google author when I post on other people's sites. What code do I need to add at the end of guest posts so that I'm credited as the author via google authorship?

A Blogs appearance
What are peoples opinions on a blog and its appearance in relation to a site. The two ways being - 1. A Blog that is fully fitting within the theme of the main website. 2. A seperate entity following a standard wordpress theme Now I have seen many different scenarios and I wanted to share some experiences and gain insight from other people on here. I once spoke to a web designer who totally frowned upon the idea of it being a separate entity. "It looks cheap it doesn't fit within the design" My thoughts are benefits can been found with having a separate looking blog it provides that realistic "student" type look and feel adding a "realistic" angle. Thanks for your opinions,

Are post tags on blogs still useful?
Hello I have a number of sites on Wordpress which all still use the post tag feature. Is this something that I should really be avoiding due to duplicate content issues in the url's of the site, or is it still something that can help SEO wise? I only ask as I did a crawl diagnostics report on SEOmoz and it found that 48 of my title elements were too short due to these tags in the URL's. If you do all suggest I keep using them, should they be 3 odd words which are keywords? Thanks in advance.
