To Many Links On Page Problem
-
Hello
My Moz report is showing I have an error for too many links on my sitemap and blog.
The links on both pages are relevant and I'm not sure if this has to be sorted out, as I would have thought Google would expect sitemaps and blogs to have lots of links. If I were to reduce the number of links how much of a positive affect would it have on my site?
If any of you feel it is best practice to reduce number of links on these particular pages, do you have any suggestions on how I can tackle this?

Thank you

We found we actually had 6 links into each individual blog within the blog page. We corrected this and the 'too many links' in the error report disappeared! YAY
We also worked a way around the number of links on our sitemap which also corrected this error.
Correcting both issues has had a positive impact on our website.

Thanks Keri,
I have read that article a number of times and stick to the fewer than 100 links per page.
I'm just concerned about our sitemap and blog because I can't think of a way to cut down the amount of links on them and whether this will have a negative affect on my entire website.

Rel no follow comes in handy when appropriate.
In this case we felt it was appropriate, as on one page 'the blog' there were several links to the same article (duplicate links). User's can follow those links but we've asked Google to only follow one of those links to each article.
As you have said you aren't sure what happens to duplicate links, neither do we and this will be an interesting test.
If I see any negative affects this will be reversed.

Dr. Pete also wrote about this warning at http://moz.com/blog/how-many-links-is-too-many.

However, as you have highlighted this we are going to place a rel no follow in all links other than the title.
No!! don't ever no follow internal links ever! you are just throwing out google juice. (not sure what happens if they are duplicate links)
Also this will not stop seomoz giving you a too many links warning. But its only a warning, that it might be a bad idea, but I would not be worried if I were you

Thank you for your response Oleg it was very helpful.
The number of links to one article in the blog was for better user experience as we have found people like to click on titles, pictures and read more.
However, as you have highlighted this we are going to place a rel no follow in all links other than the title.

You shouldn't worry about it. Honestly doesn't even seem like you have a lot of links on those pages.
In fact, I'm pretty sure you get that message on the your blog because you link to each post 6 times (title, image, read about text, read more, comment count x2). Sitemap will naturally have many links.
The "too many links" would only really affect your rankings if you have a lot of irrelevant external links or you link to every page on your site from every page. Either of these would siphon you link authority away from the pages you want to rank.
Having many links on just two pages on your site is no big deal and nothing to worry about.

URL structure - Page Path vs No Page Path
We are currently re building our URL structure for eccomerce websites. We have seen a lot of site removing the page path on product pages e.g. https://www.theiconic.co.nz/liberty-beach-blossom-shirt-680193.html versus what would normally be https://www.theiconic.co.nz/womens-clothing-tops/liberty-beach-blossom-shirt-680193.html Should we be removing the site page path for a product page to keep the url shorter or should we keep it? I can see that we would loose the hierarchy juice to a product page but not sure what is the right thing to do.

Related Keywords: How many separate pages?
We have an attorney website. There is a practice area that our research shows many different 2-4 word length keyword queries for. The keywords are all very different, but they end up in the same kind of legal action. We're wondering whether we should write many different pages, perhaps 10, to cover all the basic different keyword categories, or whether we should just write a few pages. In the latter situation, many of the target key words would be mentioned in the text, but wouldn't get placement in a url or title tags. One basic problem is that since the keyword queries are made up of different words, but result in the same kind of legal action and applicable law, the content of the pages might be similar with the only difference being a paragraph that speaks to that specific key word. The rest of the content would be quite similar among the pages, i.e. "here is the law that applies, contact us." Also, some of the keywords, like the name of the law, would have to be repeated on all the pages.

Does Navigation Bar have an effect on the link juice and the number of internal links?
Hi Moz community, I am getting the "Avoid Too Many Internal Links" error from Moz for most of my pages and Google declared the max number as 100 internal links. However, most of my pages can't have internal links less than 100, since it is a commercial website and there are many categories that I have to show to my visitors by using the drop down navigation bar. Without counting the links in the navigation bar, the number of internal links is below 100. I am wondering if the navigation bar links affect the link juice and counted as internal links by Google. The Same question also applies to the links in the footer. Additionally, how about the products? I have hundreds of products in the category pages and even though I use pagination I still have many links in the category pages (probably more than 100 without even counting the navigation bar links). Does Google count the product links as internal links and how about the effect on the link juice? Here is the website if you want to take a look: http://www.goldstore.com.tr Thank you for your answers.

301 from old site to new one , Should I point to home page or sub category page ?
Hey Seo Experts, I have a small website ranking for few terms like cabinets sale, buy etc . However what i have now decided is to launch a New website with more different products like living room furniture, wardrobes etc . Out of all these categories on new website Cabinets is one of the SubCategory . Now I do not want to have 2 websites . So wanted to 301 from small cabinets website to newly created website. Some of the doubts I have at the moment is ? 1 Should I REDIRECT 301 to sub category (i,e cabinets) which is purely related to Cabinets or Do a Redirect to HOME PAGE . As I also need more Authority to home page as well , as this is relatively new website ? 2 Second question related to this. If you have multiple sub domains does it divide the total authority & TF.Or it is just Ok to have multiple Sub domains if needed ? Any advice appreciated !! Thanks .

Do links from twitter count in SEOMoz's Toolbar link count?
I am using the Chrome extension and looking at a SERP, when a page is said to have 2000 incoming links, does that include tweets with a link back to this page? What about retweets. Are those counted separately or as one? And what about independent tweets that have exactly the same content (tweet text + link)

Duplicate peices of content on multiple pages - is this a problem
I have a couple of WordPress clients with the same issue but caused in different ways: 1. The Slash WP theme which is a portfolio theme, involves setting up multiple excerpts of content that can then be added to multiple pages. So although the pages themselves are not identical, there are the same snippets of content appearing on multiple pages 2. A WP blog which has multiple categories and/or tags for each post, effectively ends up with many pages showing duplicate excerpts of content. My view has always been to noindex these pages (via Yoast), but was advised recently not to. In both these cases, even though the pages are not identical, do you think this duplicate content across multiple pages could cause an issue? All thoughts appreciated

How does one know where to insert the right strips of coding on the right pages for Canonical Links?
On my Website, I am the only SEO optimizer wizard person. I have to teach myself everything and I get overwhelmed a lot. I recently started using SEOMOZ and on my report it stated we had duplicate page titles and that it was bad and should be fixed quickly. So I did my research and found that I needed to use canonical links to reference one page to be indexed. However my problem lies in exactly how to add this coding to my site. I greatly appreciate any help or at least looking at this question.
