Temporary Redirect Notice regarding Wordpress
-
Hello,
Under the warnings in Moz, we have 44 temporary redirect warnings showing up because we moved our blog from timelinkblogs.wordpress.org to our subdomain blog.timelink.org within Wordpress. Wordpress indicates that these were permanent 301 redirects, but Moz is indicating that they are temporary.
We want to be sure that they are permanent so we retain the SEO credit. Can someone please confirm that these are permanent redirects i.e.
http://blog.timelink.com/2012/02/17/true-stories-time-and-attendance-pay-rules-2
Moz is showing the following- it has a "trackback" added to the URL?
http://blog.timelink.com/2012/02/17/true-stories-time-and-attendance-pay-rules-2/trackback/
Thanks!

In the case of the wordpress trackback issue... its basically self-referential. Because their is a link to your blog post on your blog, wordpress creates a trackback to notify you their is a link to your blog post on a blog. Normally the reason for this is to notify you of when someone else on a blog posts a link to your site or posts on one of their posts. I.E. a Pingback or a trackback. 302s may not pass link equity but the trackback won't pass as much as the link that the trackback is notifying you of in the first place.
So ultimately, don't worry about the trackback 302s if you can't change the wp-trackback.php file. Its an easy fix if you can access the file but otherwise the seo benefit in this particular case is neglible.
Your old blog URLs 302ing is an issue though. Have you double-checked with the SEOBook tool that your URLs are redirecting improperly or is it just the trackbacks that you're being warned about?

Thank you, Mike. But my concern is the following per Moz:
Using HTTP header refreshes, 302, 303 or 307 redirects will cause search engine crawlers to treat the redirect as temporary and not pass any link juice (ranking power). We highly recommend that you replace temporary redirects with 301 redirects.
I worry that the blog posts are not passing SEO link juice.

Not sure how I wound up slapping a .ORG onto your URL like that... could've sworn I was copy/pasting everything correctly. Either way, that tool will help you double-check you have the correct HTTP status codes showing for your URLs.
As for the not being able to change that trackback file, don't worry about them then. They won't hurt you by 302ing.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick response! And I appreciate the link to that tool. Literally all 44 of our blogs from the following are showing up with these errors- http://blog.timelink.com/
We are on Wordpress.com not .org so I am not sure I can manipulate that file.

Using the SeoBook server header tool (link), timelinkblogs.wordpress.org is showing that it 302 redirects to Wordpress.org instead of your new site. Do you have any other URLs we can check to see if they're redirecting properly?
As for Trackbacks showing as 302s, that often arises from using the Disqus commenting system. Take a look in your
wp-trackback.php
file for the linewp_redirect(get_permalink(``$tb_id``));
and change it towp_redirect(get_permalink(``$tb_id``),301);
in order to make all those trackback 302s into 301s.

Solved Would my site's DA be transferred if I redirect to another?

Links>TopPages: Mostly image URLs: Good for SEO? Redirect obsolete ones??
Looking at my "Links > Top Pages" report shows the top fifteen being image URLs (jpg files). Weird or normal? Clicking the "View Links" icon for a few of the image URL's shows that the best links in the list have DA in the 30's and 40's, and some PA in the 20's. But the linking sites have names that SOUND pretty crappy (from sites with names that sound weird or spammy) QUESTION 1: Do links to image URLs... A) help the overall SEO of the site's HTML pages, B) only help the specific page the image appears on, C) or are they of no value to the regular pages? QUESTION 2: What to do with the obsolete images? (images still hosted on our site, but do not appear on any pages) If I remove the images, the links will be lost. Which is good if the links are hurting us, but it would be bad for our SEO if the links are helping (unless we 301 the obsolete images to current ones) Thanks!

If I have set up my www as a cname, do I still need to add a redirect?
Hello, I am trying to minimize my redirect chains that have been popping up in my Moz crawl issues. So I'd like to get clear on some best practices. I have a few clients that are getting their first redesign in a while. We are moving into Wordpress from good ole .html files. So I've installed a redirection plug in to create 301 redirects for those .html versions of the pages. But apparently I am already redirecting from www to non-www. I have the www set up as a CNAME going to the IP address - is that counting as the redirection? Sometimes though, the www is set up by making it an A record. Is one way better than the other? Finally, I'm forcing https for all my new sites now. Is whatever the host does to "force" https also counting as a redirect and contributing to my chain? Any advice will be appreciated!

404s on paginated categories with rss feed in wordpress
Moz tells me I have 16 404 errors. They are all on paginated pages and end with rss. I checked all my settings and i do not know why it is doing this. https://sharlinlaw.com/author/ben-sharlin/page/7/rss the page 7 exists but not the rss feed on page 7. it also exists https://sharlinlaw.com/author/ben-sharlin/rss Just on pagination it is throwing 404ss. It is my understanding that this is a custom rss structure. I built this site and i did not set it up this way but moz crawler is flagging these, what should i do. I do not need rss to exist on pagination. Thanks for any responses to this issue, Don Silvernail

Only 2 Inbound Links which are the Redirect 301 Links
Hello Everyone, We're having a serious Problem with the ranking of our website so we started testing the website in different Tools. Almost all of the tools say our website works great and in comparision to our competitors we win in almost every test – but we rank behind them. The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that our website has only 2 Inbound links (Open Site Explorer) when the link source is set to only internal. And the only links shown are 2 links that come from the old http (we're using https) and redirect 301 to our https. No other links – in other tools we have around 80 internal links to our rmain https-webadress. Does anyone have an idea where that comes from? I'm afraid this might be our issue in ranking behind of lots of our competitors. Lokking forward to your ideas and suggestions.

Canonical URLs all show trailing slash on main site pages - using Yoast SEO for Wordpress - how to correct
We are using Yoast for a number of our sites. We use naked domain as the canonical. I have noticed in the header tags that all our sites show the canonical URLs as having a trailing slash: Example: http;//foxspizzajc.com, when I look at the source code, it shows the canonical as http;//foxspizzajc.com/ Of course, it is much more likely that all sites that link to us will not use the trailing slash - so preferably we do not want that to be the canonical - among other reasons. Does this need to be fixed so the trailing slash is removed? I cannot see how to do this in Yoast SEO or in Permalinks structure for Wordpress. Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks for any help.

Add to cart redirect using 302
I am getting a list of crawl errors in Moz because I am using a 302 redirect when people click on an item using the quickview add to cart eg:http://copyfaxes.com/cart/quickadd?partno=4061 will redirect them to the viewshoppingcart page. Is this wrong should this be a 301 redirect? There is no link juice to pass. Thanks

When does Open Site Explorer automatically follow a redirect?
Does anyone know what determines when Open Site Explorer will ask if you meant to type in the redirected URL or when it will automatically change the URL to the www version. example of a site I get asked the redirect question: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons.html?site=checkbook.org Oh Hey! It looks like that URL redirects to www.checkbook.org/. Would you like to see data for <a class="clickable redirects">that URL instead</a>? example of a site that redirects automatically: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons.html?site=healthleap.com
