Problem indexing web developed with Ruby on Rails
-
Hi there!
Here we are again, we are having problems indexing one of our clients, which website has been developed with Ruby on Rails.
It doesnt get the titles right from almost all our pages...Has anyone had the same problem? Any feedback would help a lot...
Thanks!

Hi Eduardo,
For the titles this is probably due to google rewriting page titles based on brand searches. They have been experimenting with various ways of displaying titles in the serps for branded searches and if you are searching for 'jobsandtalent' with no spaces then this is a pretty specific search and google is rewriting you title based on it. If you search for your whole page title + brand you will see the normal title as expected. It does not have anything to do with Ruby on Rails.
As for the page rank, this is not a number I place much importance in. I cant remember off hand how often it is updated but it is not all the time. More to the point to be looking a moz domain and page metrics if you ask me. That being said I see your pr as 5 for the root domain www.jobandtalent.oom.
I noticed you seem to be using cookie based redirects from the main domain to the language folder so that if you have entered /es once then going to the .com main page automatically pushes you to .com/es. This can potentially be problematic in terms of google properly indexing you site. I cannot say if this is responsible for your difficulties in rankings but in a competitive sector like job postings I would certainly look changing that so that google (and users) can view all pages of the site in whichever language they choose without being pushed into a language based on cookies.
Hope that helps!

Lynn is correct, if you give a look we can see if we spot anything.
When you say they don't get the titles right, Google often changes the titles depending on the search term. But a site:domain.com search should bring up correct titles.

Hi Eduardo,
There is no reason why the language the site is developed in would have this affect since the page titles etc that the search engines read are in the final html produced, so if it looks right in the html it should look right to the crawlers. Same goes for the indexing of pages, although in that case there are more potential issues, but again none specific to ruby on rails. Care to give an example so we can have a look?

Hidden text and mobile indexing
Hello, I believe mobile indexing 1 st is in place. Since then, does google give the same value to content that is hidden behind a tab (for example a question where you need to click on the + to see the answer) as content that would be directly visible ? Thank you,

Google Webmaster tools Sitemap submitted vs indexed vs Index Status
I'm having an odd error I'm trying to diagnose. Our Index Status is growing and is now up to 1,115. However when I look at Sitemaps we have 763 submitted but only 134 indexed. The submitted and indexed were virtually the same around 750 until 15 days ago when the indexed dipped dramatically. Additionally when I look under HTML improvements I only find 3 duplicate pages, and I ran screaming frog on the site and got similar results, low duplicates. Our actual content should be around 950 pages counting all the category pages. What's going on here?

GWT Images Indexing
Hi guys! How does normally take to get Google to index the images within the sitemap? I recently submitted a new, up to date sitemap and most of the pages have been indexed already, but no images have. Any reason for that? Cheers

How can I stop google indexing an image
I have put a map of cornwall on my site on the Corwnall Page, and for some reason Google.de has picked it up and shows it up in the top 4 images for a search for cornwall? The result is I am getting about 80% of the traffic coming to my site for the search Cornwall (I get about 50 unique visits per day, over 40 a day are landing on the Cornwall page. Is this a problem for my normal SEO as a Close up Magician? Will google start to think my site is about Cornwall? Should I noindex the image (I say that like I know how! - How do I noindex that image? ) Or is any traffic to a site good traffic, I imagine they will be clicking on the link landing on the page and then leaving, which I suspect is not good for google reputation. Any thoughts anyone Thanks Roger http://www.rogerlapin.co.uk Where they land http://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=http://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/map-of-cornwall.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/magician-cornwall-magicians-hire-cornwall&h=904&w=1000&sz=167&tbnid=9GFlDv3BTz4ikM:&tbnh=99&tbnw=110&zoom=1&usg=__-b4bUYWREU_wAy2M04LrsrkzZpw=&docid=AUFmzso0arbGDM&sa=X&ei=HLZ2UpGYDMrY0QWXp4D4Dg&ved=0CEgQ9QEwAw&dur=2958

Huge number of indexed pages with no content
Hi, We have accidentally had Google indexed lots os our pages with no useful content at all on them. The site in question is a directory site, where we have tags and we have cities. Some cities have suppliers for almost all the tags, but there are lots of cities, where we have suppliers for only a handful of tags. The problem occured, when we created a page for each cities, where we list the tags as links. Unfortunately, our programmer listed all the tags, so not only the ones, where we have businesses, offering their services, but all of them! We have 3,142 cities and 542 tags. I guess, that you can imagine the problem this caused! Now I know, that Google might simply ignore these empty pages and not crawl them again, but when I check a city (city site:domain) with only 40 providers, I still have 1,050 pages indexed. (Yes, we have some issues between the 550 and the 1050 as well, but first things first:)) These pages might not be crawled again, but will be clicked, and bounces and the whole user experience in itself will be terrible. My idea is, that I might use meta noindex for all of these empty pages and perhaps also have a 301 redirect from all the empty category pages, directly to the main page of the given city. Can this work the way I imagine? Any better solution to cut this really bad nightmare short? Thank you in advance. Andras

Problem with 1 Domain but not 60 Others
Hi, I have about 60+ domains which are spread across a few different IP address's and a couple of Servers The domains use the same template, which is modified per the specific domain Out of the 60, a single domain attracts virtually no traffic. In google webmaster, there are no messages, nothing out of the order The supporting blogs etc... for that domain are all fine. Any idea why one domain does not perform, while the other 60 plug are successful?
