Have I done enough seo on this page to make a difference
-
Hi, my home page has been a thorn in my side for as long as i remember. On normal sites i am ok with seo but when it comes to my magazine site it is a whole new ball game as everything is different.
I have been working with a developer who has told me to remove the intro to the site on the home page and to move the bottom of the site which was about the magazine but i am not sure if this is right.
I want the site to rank well for the following
Lifestyle Magazine
now before our upgrade, we ranked well for this and other words, we were number one for a very long time and then stayed on the first page but now since the upgrade, i am jumping from page 9, 10, to six and not sure why that is happening.
I would like to know if the advice i have been given is correct, have i done enough on the page to rank well for lifestyle magazine, or should i be doing what i have been taught previously where i should be having an intro to the site so google can pick up the words lifestyle magazine and other words.
the site is www.in2town.co.uk
many thanks for your input

thank you for your comments

You need to build trust. I would add an "about us" page with address, phone, contact form/mail, privacy policy, picture of the team, bio of writers etc; everything that helps you to look more human and real :).
-
thank you for this. If it was you, would you put an introduction on the page, maybe about us at the bottom or something near the top. i have just looked at the amount of times i have lifestyle and will reduce it.

Both answers are true:
-
A good keyword density can help to rank; most of your competitors used the word "lifestyle" from 4 to 6 times on their homepage (with the SEOquake bar, you can check density of a page).
-
If you go over a normal limit and repeat "lifestyle" 20 times, it will look spammy for the reader and for Google. You repeat it already 14 times; maybe it's too much but there is no definitive answer; the best way in my opinion is to look how competitors rank.
Once you have an optimized website, the difference will be made by links; but like in the top 10 US, the top 10 UK = a lot of exact match/partial match domain. You will need better links than them.
Of course, don't focus only on one keyword; your SEO strategy should include 100's or 1000's of keywords to bring traffic.

thank you for this. Was the advice i was given to get rid of the intro at the top and also the about the magazine correct.
I was always taught that you need to optimize the page and have a certain number of keywords in there otherwise you will not rank, however a developer has said to get rid of those keywords as google will see what the magazine is all about, but not sure how it can when the page is not saying that it is a lifestyle magazine.
This would be the same as a dedicated page about the ford capri, ok i am going back a bit, but if you had a page which was about the ford capri and you wanted google and people to find that page then you would have important keywords of ford capri and car, so this is where i am puzzled, the developer is telling me to get rid of those keywords.
can anyone please explain, how i am supposed to rank well if i have stript the keywords out

I checked the top in Google US for Lifestyle Magazine. They ALL have lifestyle or magazine in their domain name or in their URL.
http://www.lifeandstylemag.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifestyle_magazine
http://www.nashvillelifestyles.com/
http://www.lifestylesmagazine.com/
Etc.
Without an EMD/PMD, it will be harder for you to rank. if I look page authority/domain authority, the 5th/6th rank is possible with a good net-linking work.
As far as i'm concerned, I would not repeat Magazine twice in your title :
"Lifestyle Magazine No Magazine Subscription Required"
Once + website title would be better not only for SEO but for CTR.

An informational product page AND a shop page (for same brand)
Hi all, This is my first foray into e-commerce SEO. I'm working with a new client who sells upscale eBikes online. Since his products are expensive, he wants to have informational pages about the brands he sells eg. www.example.com/brand. However these brands are also category pages for his online shop eg. www.example.com/shop/brand I'm worried about keyword cannibalization and adding an extra step/click to get to the shop (right now the navigational menu takes you to the information page and from there you have to click to get to the shop) I'm pretty sure it would make more sense to have ONE killer shopping page that includes all the brand information but I want to be 100% sure before I advise him to take this big step. Thoughts?

Thousands of 404-pages, duplicate content pages, temporary redirect
Hi, i take over the SEO of a quite large e-commerce-site. After checking crawl issues, there seems to be +3000 4xx client errors, +3000 duplicate content issues and +35000 temporary redirects. I'm quite desperate regarding these results. What would be the most effective way to handle that. It's a magento shop. I'm grateful for any kind of help! Thx,

Yoast SEO. After set up 404 error pages
Hello all, Something strange happened with my blog site. I recently signed to MOZ tools. Initially everything was fine, but during my last crawl I got loads of 404
Technical SEO | | A_Fotografy
pages. Few days ago I was tweaking some settings in SEO plugin according to this post https://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success What I noticed was that 404 pages were coming from my blog posts, but for
some reason category was missing in those posts. For example this link is 404
https://a-fotografy.co.uk/inchcolm-island-wedding-photography-bailie The one with category is https://a-fotografy.co.uk/wedding-pictures/inchcolm-island-wedding-photography-bailie/ So basically for some reason category was missing. Please let me know how can I fix this instead of doing hundreds of
redirects now. Thank you,

On-Page Problem
Hello Mozzers, A friend has a business website and the on-page stuff is done really bad. He wants to rank for: conference room furnishing, video conference, digital signage. (Don't worry about the keywords, it's just made up for an example.) For these three services he has a page: hiswebsite.com/av AV stands for audio and video and is the h1. If you click on one of the service, the url doesn't change. Like if you click on video conference, just the text changes, the url stays /av. All his targeted pages got an F Grade, I am not surprised, the services titles are in . Wouldn't it be a lot better to make an own page for every service with a targeted keyword, like hiswebsite.com/video-conference All this stuff is on /av, how will a 301 resirect work to all the service pages, does this make sense? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

How to make my good sub-page rank ahead of my generic home page?
I have an ecommerce site for the clothes drying racks my family business makes, and it sells a few other laundry items also. It's about 5 years old. We used to rank on the first page for basic phrases like "clothes drying rack" and "umbrella clothesline". About 1.5 years ago we fell hard in the rankings. Since then "umbrella clothesline" has moved back to the first page, but "clothes drying rack" is stuck on the 3rd page and always with the result being the generic homepage instead of the good sub-page (which used to rank on the first page) that really shows-n-tells about our drying rack. Here are the three pages I am talking about. Home page = http://www.bestdryingrack.com/ Drying rack page = http://www.bestdryingrack.com/clothes-drying-rack-main.html and umbrella clothesline page = http://www.bestdryingrack.com/umbrella-clotheslines.html Any ideas on how to get the drying rack page to start ranking well again? (hopefully better than the generic homepage ranks) A little technical background: the Moz campaign on this site says that the home page has a PA = 42 with 190 LRD's and 344 external links. Both the umbrella clothesline page and the clothes drying rack page have almost equal statistics of PA = 35 with 20 LRD's and 23 external links. My anchor text distribution is maybe unbalanced. The drying rack page has 15 external links with the anchor of "Clothes Drying Rack". But the umbrella clothesline page has 14 external links with the anchor of "outdoor umbrella clothesline" and it ranks on the first page for that search. I can't figure out how to get OSE to tell me anchor text stats for just the homepage and not the whole site since www.bestdryingrack.com/index.html 301's to the plain www.bestdryingrack.com (if you know how, please share) What's wrong with my poor neglected clothes drying rack page? The only way I can get it to show up on the first page is to do a real specific search like "round wooden clothes drying rack" Your help could save a faltering family business. Thank you!

How to identify orphan pages?
I've read that you can use Screaming Frog to identify orphan pages on your site, but I can't figure out how to do it. Can anyone help? I know that Xenu Link Sleuth works but I'm on a Mac so that's not an option for me. Or are there other ways to identify orphan pages?

My home page 301 redirects - is this an SEO problem
When ever a browser calls my site canineconcepts.co.uk, it is automatically 301 redirected to canineconcepts.co.uk/en I am not sure if I should be concerned about this from an SEO perspective or not. Any thoughts?
