Negative SEO to inner page: remove page or disavow links?
-
Someone decided to run a negative-SEO campaign, hitting one of the inner pages on my blog I noticed the links started to pile up yesterday but I assume there will be more to come over the next few days.
The targeted page is of little value to my blog, so the question is: should I remove the affected page (hoping that the links won't affect the entire site) or to submit a disavow request?
I'm not concerned about what happens to the affected page, but I want to make sure the entire site doesn't get affected as a result of the negative-SEO.
Thanks in advance.
Howard

Thanks Marie. I went ahead and deleted that page and submitted a disavow request. Hopefully that will prevent any future issues.

If you're transferring the content then make sure that the old pages are out of the index before you get the new page up. I had a situation where I consulted with a client who was starting a new site because the old was hit severely by Penguin. He bought a new domain and we moved all the content to there. We did no 301 redirects from the old to the new and there were no links from the old to the new at all. Yet, a couple of weeks later, the WMT backlinks to the new content showed all of the same links as the old site! They all said, "Via...oldsite.com". It was like Google recognized a canonical here and attributed the links to the new page.
The old site was gone, but was still in the Google cache. We had to manually remove each old url using the url removal tool and then the problem resolved.

Thanks Chris and Marie! I was thinking of doing a 401 (page permanently moved) and transferring the content to a new page with a new url.

If this is a page that is not important to you then I'd definitely remove it. Removing the page is the same as removing the links in Google's eyes. Just be sure that you don't redirect that url to another on your site.
-
Howard, If the page isn't of importance to you, yes, you could just remove the page. You could also change the url of the page and let all of those links unresolved. If the links are not targeting a live page on your domain they won't have an impact on your domain.

Old subdomains - what to do SEO-wise?
Hello, I wanted the community's advice on how to handle old subdomains. We have https://www.yoursite.org. We also have two subdomains directly related to the main website: https://www.archive.yoursite.org and https://www.blog.yoursite.org. As these pages are not actively updated, they are triggering lots and lots of errors in the site crawl (missing meta descriptions, and much much more). We do not have particular intentions of keeping them up-to-date in terms of SEO. What do you guys think is the best option of handling these? I considered de-indexing, but content of these page is still relevant and may be useful - yet it is not up to date and it will never be anymore. Many thanks in advance.

Why my banklinks haven't been removed?
Hi Everyone So I had over 1500 backlinks in under month, and i found out it was coming from a directory. I asked them to delist me from the directory, but it still shows i have these links pointing to me. How do I get completely take them down? Also I contacted myseotools who I use and they said "It is most likely because you have some dynamic pages that can create thousands of various URLs. Maybe a directory? This is not an issue with our software as it comes directly from ahrefs. Try going to ahrefs.com and enter your domain to see where all the links are coming from." I proceeded to do this and its definely coming from that 1 directory. They said they have removed me from they directory, but my question is I can still see I have 1500 backlinks coming from their domain? Does this take time to clear? Or have I missed something in the process?

No cache still a good link for disavow?
Hi Yall, 2 scenarios: 1. I'm on the border line of disavowing some websites that link to me. If the page is N/A (not available) for the cache, does that mean i should disavow them? 2. What if the particular page was really good content and the webmaster just has the worse seo skills in not interlinking his old blogs, hence why the page that's linking to me is N/A for cache, should i still disavow it? Thanks

Should I Disavow Links if there is No Manual Action
Hello, I just recently took on a client that had hired a very black hat seo and used their service for roughly two years. He outsourced link building and the link profile is full of spun articles and blog commenting on chinese websites etc… The anchor texts/pages used for all this spamming no longer rank, but there is no penalty in Webmaster tools manual actions. I was thinking about disavowing some of the obviously spammy backlinks that exist but would that be raising a red flag that could lead to a manual action and even more negative movement? Have you ever heard of anything like the situation i'm dealing with where its obvious the pages have been hit but there is no manual action? What do you all think/suggest? And Should I disavow some terrible links and potentially open a can of worms?

Link directories question
Looking over a clients site and they have a bunch of link directory links that seem very skeptical to me, but the mozrank and authority seem to be ok on the home page. One directory is addlinkzfree and they have the same template and layout as a few other directories this client has. Link page has no juice whatsover, but home page has PA 54, MR 5.04 and root domain is DA 45. At first glance this would appear to be respectable numbers right? But the title of the directory and multitude of links lead me to think its nothing but a link farm. Should I advise the client to run and try to remove links from these type sites even though home page has decent scores? Im of the mindset that anything diredctory with links, free, partners etc in title need be avoided. Would appreciate any backup on this or am I just being paranoid?

Pages Getting Deindexed
My Question Is I have 16 pages on my site that were all indexed until yesterday now there are only 3 indexed. I tried resubmitting my site map, and when i did it was the same result as before 3 pages indexed and 13 pages deindexed. I was wondering if someone could explain to me why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Keep in mind my site is almost three months old, and this has happened before but, it fixed itself over time thanks.
