Is there any SEO benefit to pulling a picture from another website and linking to it from a blog?
-
For example, if blog.mountainmedia.com were to link a product picture directly to mountainmedia.com. Would this be considered a high quality backlink?

Hi Federico,
I'm sorry but I don't think I agree that someone should nofollow links to themselves, particularly in the example given in the question by James.
If you overdo it, you should just stop overdoing it rather than adding nofollow to the links. Google are fine with you cross linking between your subdomain and main domain as long as it makes sense for the user and isn't manipulative.
Cheers.

Hi James,
Yes there would be some SEO benefit for the website that receives the links via the photo. Google and other search engines can crawl links within images and can certainly pass some link equity to the target website. There is some debate as to whether this is as strong as a standard anchor text link, but I wouldn't worry too much about that.
In terms of whether it's high quality or not, in the example you gave of linking from your own sub-domain, this is probably not going to be perceived as high quality when compared to links from other external websites that you do not own. So you should also be focusing on getting quality external links too.
I hope that helps.

Yes, it will carry pagerank and count as an offsite backlink. However, if you overdo it, you can get a manual penalty. Instead, I would go with a nofollow tag within those links and wait to see if you can earn quality links from external sources.

Disavow links old links
We have built a lot of sites and there a few sites we no longer manage or want any association with. When I have looked at webmasters I can see 20 to 200+ odd links back to our site. The page however at source has no reference to our website. I have searched the code but there isn't anything. Is it safe to disavow these or just leave them?

What is the process for allowing someone to publish a blog post on another site? (duplicate content issue?)
I have a client who allowed a related business to use a blog post from my clients site and reposted to the related businesses site. The problem is the post was copied word for word. There is an introduction and a link back to the website but not to the post itself. I now manage the related business as well. So I have creative control over both websites as well as SEO duties. What is the best practice for this type of blog post syndication? Can the content appear on both sites?

Help!!! Website won't index after taking it over from another IT Company
Hi, A while back we took over a website that was built in Wordpress. We rebuilt it on another platform and switched the servers over whilst retaining the same domain.I had access to the old GA Account however so did the old IT company. Therefore I created a new GA account and used that in the new website pages.Recently we found the website had been blacklisted (previous to us taking it over) and now after being crawled a lot, only 2 pages have been indexed (over a 2month period). We have submitted a request for revision (to relist the website) buthave had no movement.**Just wondering if having a old, active account that was still linked to their old website would affect our Google listing?****Will dropping the old GA Tracking code/script into the site and deleting the new account enable Google to index?**Also, there is ample content, metadata and descriptions on the site.I welcome any help on this please!

Small blog needs paid SEO help
I looked at Moz's recommended companies but they are all for huge blogs and websites. I cannot afford those fees. My blog is small but growing and was hit by a Google Panda tweak back in July. My organic traffic disappeared overnight and although I've been working hard to improve my blog, I still get no organic traffic after being on the first page. I would like to pay someone to look at my site and give me help but I cannot pay what these huge companies are asking for. Any advice?

Ecommerce website with too many links on page
Hi, I'm working on onsite seo for an ecommerce website and my recent report has shown that I have a high number of pages where there are 'too many links on page'. Does anyone have tips on how to avoid this when we're using mega menus, plenty of navigation for the user and links to products on each page? Thanks

Site links in the footer template – still good for SEO?
Hi there, When I did a redesign a few years ago, I had it in my mind that site links in 3 or 4 columns at the bottom of the home page, and every other page, would be good for SEO. Having links to interior pages using keywords and phrases from the home page and all that…. I think this might now be outdated thinking? As long as there are some links from the home page to important interior pages to pass link juice that is what matters? Google might not even looks at links in the footer? Is this correct? Thoughts? Thanks so much!
